So I have this funny little bet with my wife going on. We go out to karaoke every Saturday night, and since I have a tremendous repetoire of songs from which I can sing, I typically try to sing at least 2 new songs each week. My wife bet me that I couldn't go all the way until April and sing all new songs each week with no repeats. So far, I'm winning. Oh, and the reason it's until April, is because that's when the iPad 3 is rumored to be hitting store shelves. If I win, she buys me one. Wish me luck!

I very seldom repeat songs, I like variety. I can never understand the people who come back night after night and sing the same old songs(usually in the same order) how they keep getting any fun out of it, but each to their own.

I sing a lot of songs, but there are a few that are right down central for my voice. So I definitely have some "go-to" songs.

I have a list of about 80 songs I do regularly, with some new ones being added occasionally and others dropping off the list. I don't have any songs I do every time out at my regular gigs, but at new gigs I'll usually wheel out my best stuff to begin with. And I will be like a top 40 station at my one or two regular gigs -- I'll do some repeats to build the song. 8-)

When i was not a host and i went to venues as a singer I tried this BUT i would always get asked to sing certain songs by other audience members or the host..sometime the host would just put me in the rotation and call me up to a song i sang previously.

I personally love trying new songs but some songs I sang hit a spot that means others remember them the main one is Nessun Dorma , as not many people seem to sing opera on karaoke..so i would get "oh your that bloke who sings that football opera song please sing it for us" (it was used as a theme for a world soccer tournament) This often means i could be in a bar and sing three or four songs i personally didnt want to sing so never got chance to try newer songs.

I do travel our of my area on off nights to sing where they don't know me to sing new stuff.

I hope you make it as the ipad 3 will be very tasty..good luck on your karaoke quest!!

Sounds like fun. I like trying new songs, as well.

It's only been in the last year or two that I've actually started singing at my own shows... When asked, I would always reply with something like "People don't come here to hear the host sing... They want to hear themselves." The real truth of course, is that I never had the confidence to sing in public. I came to the Karaoke business after many years as a mobile DJ, so I was no stranger to a microphone... but for talking, not singing.

Needless to say, I haven't built up much of a repertoire... and doubt if I could go more than three or four shows without repeating a song.
