As I've alluded to in a few different posts, I like to spice things up, shake things up, make people laugh, make people shake their heads, or give them something to talk about other than whatever is usually being talked about.
My next gig I'm pulling out all stops and hosting the show in my finest disco outfit! I have the polyester pants, velvet silk shirt with ruffles, 6" platform shoes and wig. On top of that, I'm going to brave it and sing Bee Gee disco material like the fool that I am!
Please don't tell anyone, gonna be a surprise!
C'mon! Give me some ideas, I'm all about stealing ideas if there is no harm!

Sounds good to me. We have done some theme nights where we asked people to come in 60s costumes or Tropical night but we haven't done disco yet--you need a disco ball if you don't already have one.
For 60s night we had drawings with Dollar Store gag prizes (wrapped in tissue paper to look like giant joints). There was brownie mix, granny glasses, bubbles, chalk, soap for dirty hippies, etc.
I plan on wearing a fake foam naked chest for Mardi Gras--no use subjecting people to the real thing at my age. I also made a Katy Perry Roman Candle bra out of cardboard and paper towel tubes that I pull out here and there. Don't like to repeat too much--like the element of surprise, as you mention.

Not really crazy, but was kind of fun.
There used to be a KJ husband wife team in my area that one night a month they would do what they called Kamikaze Karaoke. Each singer had their name put in a hat for each song that they sang. At the end of each rotation they would draw a name out of the hat. The singer selected would be asked to sing a song that had been randomly selected. For being a good sport and singing (usually something you or no one else would normally sing) they'd buy you a kamikaze or domestic beer.

It looks like I misunderstood and thought you meant ideas for future shows and not more ideas for the 70s show. I sort of blocked out the 70s and was in a country music phase at the time. Couldn't handle the polyester.

My Scarioke cans I love them for slower nights ...we have a male and a female can...rules pick once look at song ...sing or redraw...if you redraw you must sing second song.We get most everyone playing 1 or more rounds a night. Have fun by picking outrageous songs for each can IE paint it black for female can or anything by ABBA for Male can...Dead skunk in the middle of the road. KC and the sunshine band for either....anything unusual...We have a ton of fun...and those that choose not to sing MUST dance the chicken dance or a Polka at the end of the round.

Show was last night. Since the shows at this bar start out slow, I waited awhile before "exposing" myself so the room was heavily populated. Even the owner had no idea, I played a 2 song break, snuck into the back room (just behind my booth so no one could even see me until I showed up at my booth), switched into my black polyester bell bottoms, black shiny 4" platform shoes, purple velvet shirt with ruffles, big hair wig, came out, and broke into Night Fever! It was hysterical.
Owner wondered where I disappeared to (I had texted him in the afternoon and told him to get ready for some crazy sh!t) and was totally caught off guard. The place went nuts! I sang more songs than I usually do, rotation wasn't that long till last hour. I also did Stayin' Alive, You Should be Dancing, Copacabana, Ladies Night, I'm Your Boogie Man, and just to change it up I sang I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry sandwiched between a couple singers doing old country songs. After my first time of Once Bitten Twice Shy I laid off until our traditional last song of Piano Man where people have an open invite to come up on stage. I thought about doing YMCA but the rotation was swelling up so I didn't.
My calves are killing me today, it's not easy walking in those shoes! I had no pockets and near the end of the night the owner said he wanted to pay me but I told him I had no where to put it. He graciously gave me an extra $50 and I placed my pay in my sock.
Next week, who knows. I have a flower child costume but I may wait a few shows for that one!

File comment: One of my fave singers "Too Tall" and me. With my platform shoes and big hair, I am 6' tall in this pic!

You look lovely. I think you can wear that wig when you go out with Mr. Scott in Salt Lake.
If you go as a flower child in the future, I noticed that All Star has Scott McKenzie's "If you go to San Francisco, be sure to wear flowers in your hair." Didn't particularly like the song back then but see some possibilities for it now.

I was thinking more along the lines of psychedelic rock, perhaps Donovan or the Lemon Pipers.

Not alot of Country Joe out on karaoke. Airplane, Donovan, Janis, Youngbloods, later Steve Miller, Doors, Beatles....can't remember who else I went to see "back then." Quicksilver, Moby Grape, Electric Flag.
Lemonpipers? Weren't they one hit wonders? Green Tambourine? I'd go for The People, first. "I Love You." Not on karaoke. Oh Tommy James. Rolling Stones. And Motown. And Folk Music--John Baez, Judy Collins, Dylan, Phil Oches. I noticed All Star had a bit of a Leonard Cohen collection. SBI? has Frank Zappa. Byrds. Buffalo Springfield. Even Sonny and Cher were considered a bit weird before they became mainstream. Mommas and Papas.
And the beat goes on......
