One of three down...

I actually started working on the Sound Choice certification first, but they're being really hard to deal with, like not getting back to me (constantly have to send email reminders to keep things moving) but also because I can't agree to them marking my disks in the process. I really don't want a permanent mark/scratch on my (some very expensive collector's item) disks. And I basically told them, if they don't waive that paragraph in the agreement I won't do the audit, period. They can drag me to court then. No one is devaluing my disks.

For 4 weeks they're trying to come up with an alternative plan now ... and I am still waiting... and waiting... and waiting...

Sound Choice is the last of the "Big 3" for me.

When I called Sound Choice a couple of weeks ago, they said they were doing a blacklight stamp now and not requiring the X-Acto mark method. If they are still doing physical marks then it will become a roadblock for me as well.

I am also trying to button down an audit though mine looks to be an in-person audit since I am relatively close to the office of the attorneys/investigators. I just sent them an email asking for an update before coming here to check the forums.

Personally, I don't understand why there needs to be a marking policy anyway. Is there really that much disc trading going on among pirates to warrant discs be marked to prove that Pirate A isn't loaning discs to Pirate B to cover an Audit? Under no circumstances do even let me discs leave my house without very good reason much less to loan to someone for any reason.

No, I do understand where they are coming from. They're trying to avoid any "cheating" when it comes to the audit. On the other hand, they do understand where I'm coming from. No one lays hands on my disks, but me. They can look all day long, but not touch.

Hm, they never mentioned anything about a blacklight stamp to me. But then again, it would still devalue the marked disk. Once marked, they can't be used in another audit. When I retire, I want to be able to sell my disks and make some money back on my investment. If they're permanently marked in any way, no one would buy them because they can't be used in another audit (if audits are still a necessity then, but I don't know that now).

It was my understanding that you could still sell the discs--you would just have to write up a little "transfer" paper or bill of sale, like when you sell a car.

I got my certification last week. First, an advanced copy by email followed by the actual original certificate by mail. I also receive the list of songs alphabetically for the 12k in M/Excel format Song Title/Artist/Genre (no track #’s). I ask them maybe they can send also the list by Artist/Song but no reply yet. If any of you guys have that list I’d truly appreciate it if you can pm me. Thanks.

Since they sent it to you in M/Excel format (I assume that means you received a spreadsheet file that you have to open on your PC, and not an actual printout of the file), then why don't you just re-sort the columns? Or, are the Artists listed as First Name/Last Name, and you want to reverse that?

Correct – spreadsheet file, not an actual printout. Three columns listed as follows:

Title of songs listed alphabetically / Artist listed by first names / Genre: Pop, Rock, Country, etc.

I’m requesting CB to send me a list (if available) of like maybe 2 columns listed as:
Name of artist, preferably last name first, but first & last will suffice, then
under the names will be their songs. If I can have that it would definitely make a lot easier to incorporate their songs in my book.

Re-sort? How do you that in Excel? :) I’m one of those computer challenged people. Just the basics & beyond, none of those fancy intricacies that comes along with it. Anyway, I’ll try to play with it and see what comes up. Thanks, Cue.

I started playing with the spreadsheet and Wow! Re-sort was way too easy. I feel  Many thanks Cue. Next, I have to work on how to do last names first.

This is reminiscent of the good ol’ JOLT days when you, Lonnie, Debra, Mr. Q, Leigh Balton (sp) & others helped me out quite a few. Thanks again.

Glad I could help... I'm computer challenged too (and funny, because I work on a Mainframe).

Now, as for doing Last Name/First Name from the reverse, if CB has this already formatted, then you should ask them (again) for the listing you want. Otherwise, you're going to have to manually retype the names on each line... basically, leave the Last Names there, add a comma, and retype the First Names, then delete the First Name from the front. It will probably take you a few hours to do this.
