a not so great loss, as the drug ruined her and her voice....
my opinion would be different if she wouldn't have had a drug & alcohol issue.
i saw her on one of the morning news shows and she looked and sounded like crap....
I blame it on that marriage to bobby brown!
before then she was great.
we loose way to many artist's to drugs and alcohol!!!!!!!!!

Why is everyone blaming Bobby? Why doesn't anyone put the blame where it REALLY belongs - squarely on HER shoulders? She was a big girl and knew right from wrong when she got involved with him and made the decision to do drugs. SHE CHOSE to do drugs and she wasn't forced. I would think that she needs to take the lion's share of responsibility for her own actions here.

She was an adult and made her own choices. Unless she had a gun to her head or forced down and someone else administering the junk then it's on her only. Just surprised it took this long.

RIP Whitney. I love nearly all genres of music and I have about 30 of her songs (non karaoke) and her voice was to die for! I will always love you and the star spangled banner songs were awe inspiring.
In my first conversation about her death with someone, Bobby Brown was blamed. I said the same thing, she didn't have to stay. She made choices, had to live (and die) with them and it's heartbreaking and tragic. I found out about it around 10 last night at a Trivia Game get together, came home and read about it.
Having said all that, today as I was cleaning my music collection in iTunes and a Bobby Brown song came on and I did cringe. Hard not to.
She lost her voice, her mojo and mystic sometime in the 90's.
She will always be one of the greatest singers of time and always sad to hear the passing of someone that brought so much joy to people with her voice and her music.

Perhaps now she will be free of Bobby Brown and her demons within. While alive she could not be free of him as he was her child's daddy and would be with her in one way or another. But now at the end she can rest peacefully.
Be kind to souls more tortured than your own.

I KJ'd Saturday night and two girls sang Whitney songs.....and during them there were people actually weeping in the crowd.

The thing may people miss is that she had a drug problem before she met & married Bobby Brown. They have also been divorced for 5 years so she has been "free of him" for some time.
She often said that she & bobby were "very much alike" and that the "goody goody persona" cultivated by her handlers was not the real her.

It is always good for someone to remind us the reality of life. Hope your kids never get in with the wrong crowd. No, silly me. That would never happen. Actually, my kids have made mistakes and will do again. It''s called life. What they do in such circumstances is they pick themselves up and move on, not whine and cry and blame others for what they, and they alone, are responsible for. My kids aren't perfect. No one is. I am definitely not the kind of parent who says "MY kids wouldn't do that!". I know darn well that they possibly would. They're kids, after all. ALL kids WOULD! I believe in making my kids responsible for their own actions and not prone to blaming others for what the are responsible for. I just wish more parents would do the same. Perhaps then, the world would be a better place instead of full of whining people who have a sense of self entitlement and are too busy blaming others for their own mistakes to actually pick up and right their wrongs. /end rant Sorry. Lost it for a second, but I just couldn't help it.

There would not have been any new Whitney karaoke songs anyway, she had only one Top 10 single since 2000, and that was a re-issue of the national anthem she sang for the Super Bowl. It is sad, she was undeniably talented, but she threw it away a long, long time ago.

SwingcatKurt wrote: Be kind to souls more tortured than your own. Nicely put Kurt, I agree with this. Does it really matter if it was drugs or not? If it was Bobby or she did it to herself? Or if the show business drove her nuts? Fact is, a life was tragically lost; will never come back. A mother was taken from her loving daughter. And it happens to be the life of one of the greatest singers and talents ever. Period. Rest in peace Whitney.

No, she wasn't taken, unless someone else caused her death (which we don't know yet as the investigation isn't completed), but if it was an OD by her own hand then it was of her own doing.
