My first time singing at a venue was in the 70's. The place was actually called "The Jail" in Hillsdale, NJ. This was a place that Springsteen used to play before the E Street Band went national- used to carry his own equipment....

Anyway, this place used to bring in oldies groups. I was both a bartender and an emcee. I was honored to MC for the Five Satins, Shirelles, Gary U.S. Bonds, and many others, including The Drifters. When I met them I mentioned that one of my favorite songs at the time was Under The Boardwalk, and they were kind enough to autograph my 45 ( that's a record  )

Well, they went on stage, ( I was standing in front of it), and when it was time to do that song, two of them lifted me bodily onto the stage, where I sang it with them!

To this day, the one of the most treasured and happy moment in my memories....

If the original question was in regard to the first time singing karaoke, it was at a Lion's Club dinner. The lady was pulling something that reminds me of a VocoPro Twister. Cassette tapes and lyric sheets and less than 100 songs.

No one was singing, and I felt bad for the lady....

I sang "Mame". Sigh......

The first time I sang in public was in 1991 at a gig with my hubby's band... the song was 'Jumping Jack Flash', I sang back-ups & played the Maracas.

My first time Feb 14,1991 and I was sitting there singing along with everyone and the guy next to me said "you should be up there singing because I'm in a band and you sing way better than me". I sang "Always On My Mind" and "Blue Velvet" and I was hooked. I sang only those 2 songs for at least a month. At that time we had 2 places that had karaoke every night (only laser discs), and I went out singing almost every night for 7 years.

Ironically, I went my wife Feb 13, 1999 at 9:00 PM (at karaoke), and the next day I had to go to a DRIFTERS CONCERT, but I did get home in time to see my next new love. Now I have 2 loves. The big difference is now I sing much more at home.

First time ever was at what was then known as The All City Diner in Renton. I sang Friends in Low Places. Trouble was it was the live version that has all the extra talk at the end of it which I was completely unfamiliar with. :withstupid:

I think one of the next songs I sang was Rubberband Man by the Spinners. I muffed it but it's still a good song.

First time for me singing in public was in high school in a school mucical. I actually had major parts in 3 different musicals back in the day. So, being on stage in front of large audiences was definitely not a stranger to me. So, when it came to talking me into singing at a karaoke show took my friends about half a second to get me up there. First song I ever sang was Eagles - Lyin' Eyes,, gotta say, I didn't do too poorly for a first attempt.. but not a great choice for a song to entertain the drunk masses!! hehe.. Ok,,, here comes the second rotation,,,, the gal that invited me was a HUGE Donny Osmond fan,,, oh,,,, Lord!!! She really really really wanted to hear Puppy Love,,, so she dared me. OK, I can take a dare if I wanna,, so,, there I was,, microphone in hand,, and what came out of my mouth was soooooo bad,, I just started to laugh,,,, and so did everyone else!! Even tho, the song didn't go as planned, I still had fun. From that point forward, if someone said "karaoke", all you had to do was point the direction.

Wow! Lyin' Eyes. For whatever reason one of the few songs I can sing without worry of forgetting the lyrics! Puppy Love? I'd rather try Go Away Little Girl or Sweet and Innocent! If I come back to Utah, you HAVE to sing Puppy Love!

No more Puppy Love for me!!! EVER!!! haha... I have been hoodwinked into doing a few songs over the years that just aren't something I can handle. Even got asked to do the male part of "Need You Now - Lady Antebellum" on Saturday night. I know I can't do that song, but slaughtered it anyway. But it was for the bartender, so it had to be done,, hehe.

It was early 2000's, I was chasing a girl and we ended up at an Irish bar called PJ Kelly's. After imbibing in far too much alcohol I was convinced to sing in front of the crowd(First Time Ever). I sang Frank Sinatra's Luck be a Lady. I'm sure that it was abysmal but I thought it was pretty good. I sang nothing but Sinatra songs for probably the next few months followed by Johnny Cash songs. I was hooked. My repertoire consisted of these two artists for several months, until I met my future wife and her friends who encouraged me and made me break my shell.
