perhaps it might be an idea of an alert system whereby you get a messege when your fav singers submit a song...thats if there aint one in place i am still working my way round the site that way it doesnt matter how long a song is there....and it's because the site is getting so popular that songs are not staying front page for long...so more people aint a bad thing really is it

TAMMY:
In relation to this topic You should check out my thread "FIRST PAGE SUGGESTION FOR WEBMASTER". It appears on the 3 page of this forum.
That suggestion was implanted but discontinued after a few weeks because I guess?? it was making the site slower.
Anyway, I would like to bring back that suggestion if there's a way for the speed not to be compromised.
What do you all think

maybe setting up 3 different sections to Singer's Showcase would lessen then turnover rate on the pages...
have a section for standard members (those with a 1 song/day limit)
have a section for Plus Members (those with a 2 song/day limit)
have a section for Delux Members (those with a 5 song/day limit)
have a section for Premium Members (those with a 10 song/day limit)
this way it would seperate out alot of the subs from members who may only post 1 or 2 songs EVER from members who worship this site as a karaoke deity ... it would also slow down, ideally, the number of pages that the main SS creates (along with turnover, maybe the subs will stay on the front page a little longer than an hour ) and maybe it would also encourage people to UPGRADE to the paying accounts so that they will be in the spotlight with the main group of subbers and have their stuff listened to by more people (sounds good on paper)... just a few thoughts... lemme know what ya think...keep on singing - tig

Tigrr that is so funny, I was thinkin' a this dilemma on my way back from the laundry room, and your idea is fantastic!! I was tryin' to come up with something like that in my head too. I was thinking like you were along the lines of, HOW do we reward the regular die-hards who are so faithful from people who might, like ya said, just be doing a hit and run jobbie? And that would I do believe.

hi tammy, i feel the same way but for a different reason....i don't think i'll be posting much anymore either....AllStar once said...if u have time to post a song u should have time to comment....i totally agree, but i haven't been commenting, and thats no ones fault but my own....i just haven't takin the time to do it, i listen alot... i have even neglected my fav. singers plus alllll those that r so true to comment on mine...that so sucks....and i really feel bad about it...yes the amount of songs on the front page scares me just looking at it....but thats no excuse, i think its the fact that i get anywhere from 15 to 20 comments on a song.... fot that i'm sooooooo thankful....but knowing now that i have to go listen to 15 r so songs, at least, then comment on the comments on my page, plus comment on there song as well....gets kinda scary....
what to do, what to do, as ALLStar would say... ...i think i have to stop posting as much and that will leave me time to just listen and comment, what i should be doing anyway.... but i think i will also start being more honest on subs....now if i'm outta town i can't but when i get back i promise to spend alotttttt more time listening and commenting, if i record a song i will just hold it for awhile, ok i feel better now.....THE END

commenting is fine and no commenting is fine, IMO, cuz I think ya can look at how many times your song has been pulled up to see how many people have checked it out... sometimes no comment is just as effective as gushing compliments because at least they didn't find anything bad enough about it to say anything ... I think alot of people here get hung up too much on needing rated and comments and such... just sing from your heart and you can't go wrong... I won't give anyone on the internet the power to hurt me, make me feel bad or even make me feel too good... I sing for me... I sing for fun... I sing so I can share it with other people who have the same love i do... words on the screen don't change any of those things whether I nail a song or destroy it... just a thought- tig

well tigger it isn't necessary meant to be a perk for the regulars by seperating the different account packages.. merely an attempt to bring more of a spotlight to those members who financially help support the site and also to help the regulars avoid having to shuffle thru 3 or 4 pages to find the latest subs from their fave singers... it might also be an incentive for newbies to upgrade so they can be posted with the big kids which also benefits the site... this will give members who do not have alot of time to spend on the site or online a chance to go directly to the regular's song showcases and then they can go back and hit the other showcases at their leisure... it seems to me that it is only fair for those who pay for the different packages be able to be set apart into different showcases helping spotlight their subs... I think seperating the different packages into their own showcases will help slow down the speed of pages being created and subs getting lost in the shuffle... this way everyone's subs may stay on the front showcase page a little longer and get a chance to be listened to by more people... I have high speed cable internet access and the showcases DRAG so slow to load and I don't have time to go back 2 or 3 pages to see the last 24 hours worth of subs... seperating the showcases by memberships allows everyone to focus on the subs they want without being buried by the task of pouring thru 2 or 3 pages of subs... just a few more thoughts- tig

This is in No Offence to Allstar or OK...
But I feel the need to make a clarification here..
ok What Now wrote: AllStar once said...if u have time to post a song u should have time to comment...
I don't know if this was mis-stated or not... or if allstar meant something else.. BUT...
I believe that IF you have time to LISTEN to a sub.. then you should have time to comment and rate it appropriately...
Now I surely hope that's what was meant.. because I know alot of us have better things to do with our day Including myself. I don't have 6 hours a day to just listen to subs and rate songs anymore I may do a few as time allows. But remember... I respect everyone on this site for putting them up good or otherwise. :-}

hmmmmmm, no i think i got it right... ...but i will admit, i'm not real sure, ok let ME put it this way....if you have time to post a song, then you should have time to go and listen and comment on others songs, seems fair to me, for that reason is why i'm not going to post anymore for awhile...and what time i have i will spend it listening and commenting, plus posting in the forum it seems... ...
people have been to good to me on here and they deserve more from me then just for me to post a song then sit back and read THERE comments....
But know this, when u don't see me posting just know that my songs r building up, and i will post them 1 day.... ll...with all my heart i thank everyone on here for being so loyal to me, i will try to do the same....hugssssssss lady's, guys? well ur just guys... ...i think u understand....

I think I'm gonna step out of this topic... This could get heated..
with all appologies..
I do listen and comment on those I do listen to.. but I do have other more pressing priorities. I sub when those songs are available.. but based all on time availability.

I agree with you too, I have not posted anything for a long time cause I too feel guilty for not listening and commenting on anyone's subs as well. I feel bad when I submit a song, and someone comes and comments/listens, and I don't return the favor. I mean, it takes a long time for some to put up a song, and some people spend a lot of time making it just right.
I like to listen, but it is hard. I usually listen at work, but then the phone rings, or then someone comes and has to speak with you, and I can't turn it up loud because, well, I am at work ! Then, to comment, I have to try to be sneaky cause heavin forbid I get caught on the net (but I am usually pretty up to date in my work, and listen during the slow times at work).
I even feel guilty posting in the forms, cause I know that by the time I type a post, I could probably have listened to a couple of songs and commented. I just like all the conversation in the forum, and talking with all the nice people here
Maybe today when I clean the house I can take off the earphones, plug in the speakers and have everyone here as my cleaning music

Then I stand to my statement! I listen/comment to everyone who listens/comments on my song! I don't have 24/7 either!
If you don't comment on my subs, BHB, why should I waste my time on yours?!?!
Brain, the last time you subbed was October 9, 2004, and you have never since your "come-back" even commented on any of my subs. Is that fair?
You did Losing My Religion, I commented
You did Crossfire, I commented
Nothing from you Why should I comment any further on your subs?

Man...I really hate to agree with my husband on anything, but I have to agree on this. We have very busy lives and can't spend all day on the computer, but we try to make time to listen to our friends and give back the support we receive. We don't always succeed, but we try. I think it's kind of a Karma thing. You'll only get back the equivalent of what you put out. I love to sub my songs and get feedback, but I also enjoy hearing the different singers and watching people grow with the site and the relationships we develop with each other. You can't get that unless you put yourself out there. (ie subbing, commenting, exchanging opinions on the forums) the talent on this site is incredible and I love hearing new versions of old songs everyday and if even a portion of that can rub off on me somehow, it's worth the effort.
On the other hand, I also think that it's OK to post a song every now and then without participating. We all know who's active and who isn't so if you post and don't have time to participate we know it's not an all-the-time thing and it's no big deal. That's totally different from the people who only want to sub thier songs and can't be bothered to listen and respond to others........ but they'll be weeded out by the process of elimination eventually anyway.
Applause to everyone from me........You're all worthy of my time and effort. It's apleasure to share the site with you all

I think if you have time to post a song you had at least listen to the recent submissions of all those that comment. I haven't listened or posted lately because 'life happens' but when I start posting again I'll start listening as well. Something I did find out on the few posts that I did was that when I commented on someone else's subs often they came to listen to mine. If you're not getting listened to start listening to others and commenting - you'll be surprised at how well this actually works.
If you post be sure to respond to the comments that people leave. Even a simple Thank You is enough for most people but knowing that you came back to see what people said is important to many people. Why should I comment on your subs when you don't even come back to see what I said? Sometimes ppl will comment days later so be sure to check your older subs as well. I checked some posts that were over a week old and saw a few comments - including a request to sing another song (which I'll be doing soon! I promise!).
Best explantation I ever heard was an 'emotional bank account' (it was a Harvey McKay or Steven Covey IIRC). You have to make deposits (listening/commenting) before you can make a withdrawal (getting comments). If you don't follow the rules on your account (getting comments without listening/comments) you can only keep it up so long before you become overdrawn and people stop listening/commenting. It's a weird anaology but it actually works....

I think that really helps explain it.
I realize that not everyone has the time to listen/read/comment/reply to all the posts. However, hopefully with the better speed of the site this will make it a bit easier.
Also, I am working on a method for members to know quickly when someone has commented on their submission. When you select your profile (at the bottom) where your submissions are listed you will see a "NEW" image next to comments. This will indicate that there are comments for that song that have not been replied to. After you reply to the comments the "NEW" will disappear. {Not implemented yet, but soon}

Does anyone else feel a slight to huge twinge in their heart when they come to realize they stand NO CHANCE of catching up on subs???
Like OWN... I'm tending sub less 'cause I just can't seem to listen (&, of course, comment) as much as I would really like.
I started writing a song the other night called "Page Two Blues"... it turned into a song about not being able to keep up with page one subs. I stopped writing to listen to a few subs..... That brought me out of my depression and I lost my muse....
As AJ recently sang..."Too much of good thing... is a good thing"
