I picked up a large collection of Pioneer LaserDiscs today and there was a complete set of Nikkido LD 1-21 with it. I don't believe I have ever seen these at a show before.

What is the general concensus on quality of the music?

Well, I can't speak for the videos (as any LD that I've seen at a show, the Video has nothing to do with the song, and some are quite comical), but if their LDs are like their CDGs, I'm be willing to bet that the music probably sounds very synthy.

The videos are why I love to use the Pioneer LD tracks. But they also have some great music to go with them. The Nikkido I have never heard or seen that I recall. Time to pick up an LD player to check them out!

Very hit or miss but definitely have some sleeper gems embedded. I only have a couple of the LD but most of those are very useable tracks. I was just talking to a guy last night about two tracks in particular that are actual preferred over any other brand - Sign Your Name - Terrence TrentD'Arby & Alive & Kicking - Simple Minds.
I have an older player I can give you. Don't know if it works really good, didn't read cdg's very well which is why I originally pulled it, but know a place you can bring it in Tumwater (ONLY place that services LD players anymore) that can service it.

I couldn't put a rating on them overall, again very hit or miss, but the hits are as good as any top quality out there, the misses equal the crap as well. Much of Nikkodos country selections are fairly decent, their pop/rock is more left to be desired, however SOME of that is very good.

We use them in our show and I can't recall being embarrassed or offended by them (other than some of the videos that don't make sense) but we do have a mostly country crowd. The songs on them aren't picked that often and unlike some who's crowds love the videos, we have had complaints that they are distracting as far as keeping track of the lyrics. Can't remember if it is the Pioneers or the Nikkodos (we have some of both) but some of the songs have original footage of the Beatles and Elvis.

The Playboy LDs were Nikkoda/Nutech backings.
