Unless I'm mistaken, I've discovered that Chartbuster has decreased the number of new titles in the Country Hits of the Month Edition and a Pop Hits of the Month Edition, formerly with 12 songs but now 8, with 8 in CD+G format and the songs duplicated in MP3 format. I understand the concept, just woo the loss of available new product "at the same price" as before. When I had one set of Karaoke, I updated monthly. Over the years I've grown in size and now have 9 sets of Karaoke (7 active employees with myself and two rentals), so updating has gone from monthly to bi-annually using the Greatest hits of the 1/2 year from Chartbuster. I know it's a hit to my more progressive singers, but it makes managing my collections easier and the wife more happy. Still I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this change and had any feelings pro or con about it?

It's been like this for a few months now. And the price did go down at least $4 from what I was paying each month.
It's kind of a take it or leave it. If you want the newer songs, you get them - where you can. I've moved over to PHM for my newer stuff, however their selections are more fluff IMO. Am now looking for other alternatives for new music on a monthly basis.

It will be interesting to learn what you decide. With no SC, limited CB, poor choice on PHM and a whole bunch of supposedly unlicensed brands to avoid, what is left? I was using the UK until they lowered the boom on that. Have been thinking it is going to be Party Tyme for a while. And maybe pay closer attention to Pocket Songs--haven't really kept up with their newer music.

I'm still with PHM each month right now. But am getting some mainstream 'new' hits from AllStarKaraoke on customs that didn't happen to fall into the PHM selections. They also have some stuff that CB & PHM do not have.

Yes, they did do this a couple months ago. I complained and they said "well, we lowered the price $3" which they had... still I'm not happy about it. But maybe it'll change back soon.
Thank you for the suggestion re: Pocket Songs, I'm going to check that out. Seems like PS is better than they used to be....

Newest is 2011 pop hits (one female, one male), $24.95 for 10 tracks (kinda high). If I didn't already have most of them, I might consider....but its 2012, I want 2012 music. I'd forgotten that someone said no one was producing new music except CB?

Pocket Songs was never on the 'current' bandwagon. Rare is the time they actually come out with something on the radios today.
Don't know who said no one is producing new music but CB, there are several manus producing new music, it's just whether it's worth getting or not.

Zoom, SBI, Sunfly and even Karaoke Kurrents have some good new music.

It's not even so much the manus aren't worth a chit, it's the song choices in general. Especially PHM, their 'new' stuff is a lot of fluff it seems just to be able to get something out each month and not so much real radio 'hits'. I would like to buy the Charbuster songs on custom through their site, however they do not have them listed for sale either via discs or customs, and their email keeps bouncing as undeliverable & have not had any phone calls returned as to the inquiry of their Jan & Feb discs. I was on their auto ship, but haven't received any discs since Oct.
The All Star Karaoke is producing new stuff, decent quality & cheap. I bought one custom disc last month with Dec & Jan releases and almost every song has been sung. PHM tracks i've had listed since Dec, I think one or two songs out of 12 discs have been done.

I've had some trouble with CB's monthly delivery also, but did get the Jan set.. and just got the Feb one. They send ours out last... I think they should send the subscribers disc's out at the beginning of the month.
I haven't had the time to go searching for disc's... I like the Tricerasoft download thing though. Have found that Zoom and SBI... even Sunfly sometimes, has decent renditions. I've never been happy with PHM.. used their monthly mailings for awhile, then discovered that I had to supplement A LOT to stay current. I was downloading from the sites listed on Latshaw's site.. only to find out, that these aren't necessarily legal for commercial use. There's more homework than ever involved in being a KJ now days.. :(

I no longer purchase the monthly disks. I analyze new songs via Billboard at least once a month. I decide which ones to but initially, and for every 7 new songs I decide to buy each month, I would say I have to buy 1 at the request of a customer.

I use tricerasoft's website and my preferred brand on their website is SBI. In fact, SBI is my favorite now for new songs. I have only bought maybe 15 or so, but each and every one has been spot on and the quality of the sound at high volume is also very good.

for the last 4 months i have been printing out the PHM list to see what people want......and so far not one song. lots of duds.
i use Fast Trax for some of the different stuff, not the greatest ever, but more than passable considering MM & SGB.

i use Tricerasoft a lot, even on their site it states for KJ use, and they have stated it here many times, and they are a sponsor of this very site, so until i see a hard law that says downloads are absolutely illegal in the U.S., i have no fear.
http://www.tricerasoft.com/terms_account.html

i also use Karaoke Locker for Music Factory and Stingray. they are based in Florida and state that yes, their downloads are 100% legal and intended for KJ use.
http://message.pcdj.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=17415

also on occasion for that really bizarre one, Karaoke Version. they go off of a lot of requests so some stuff that nobody makes, they do. thats where i got "Porn Star Dancing" from My Darkest Days, no one else made it.

SBI makes all of Sunflys music for the last year or so.

Aren't those the Karaoke Channel (Sound Choice) tracks? One of the clubs named in lawsuits here used the Karaoke Locker exclusively. One of their selling points was download your song on the spot. The no longer offer karaoke.

I like the All Star Karaoke. Have quite a few in my library. I can get them locally and the qualities pretty decent.

I've yet to get one of their download cards, but am considering. I buy my music for home use and would rather get X number of songs we want without having to buy Y number to get them.

I did get Bad Company by Five Finger Deathpunch from Karaoke Version that was decent.

I was going UK but the law that went into effect in Jan 2011 supposedly says they aren't licensed under US terms. I also wonder this about Tricerasoft and Karaoke Version. They may be perfectly legal in their own countries but are they truly okay for the US? I know Tricerasoft said they had negotiated individual licensing but they never really backed it up or confirmed that they got the Eagles to okay their songs for the US. Karaoke Version has a FAQ that says you can use them for commercial but on two other places on their site it now says for private home use only.

If one is trying to be squeaky clean, there are few options.

@Lon
yes, that is Karaoke Channel tracks and Music Factory.
the way it appears to me, they are in Florida, where S-T has hit more times than anywhere else, They say in as many words that yes their downloads are intended for pro KJ use and have since 2009, you can even buy PCDJ Karaoki directly on SC cite. if they were selling Slep-Tone tracks illegally i can not see how after all the work in FL that
A) they have not been hit by a suit
B) they would still show that they are for pro use
C) that SC would sell their software.
D) that SC would keep them as a GEM dealer while breaking the terms of their license.

to me that makes me believe that they are telling me the truth. and as of now, the only statements saying they are lying and downloads can not belegal in the U.S. come from other non-legal staff. :dontknow:
Mr. Harrington even stated that downloads ARE legal if the proper license is obtained.

I understand that, however do not understand that downloads of the Karaoke Channel tracks direct from their own site aren't legal for kj use, but those same exact tracks from the KaraokeLocker are? Do these tracks have a special ID or something with your info on them to prove you purchased them from the 'legal' site for KJ's?
