Can anyone with experience with Song List Generator tell me how to successfully import my files? I think I must have them labeled wrong as the program can't seem to recognize my avi files. An example of how your files are labeled on the hard drive would be very helpful. Thanks!

Their site does not mention AVI support. You could move those files to a separate folder and rename the file extensions to one that it does support (temporarily). Give a try and see if you can trick it that way. Then after it creates to list you change the extension back to it's original name.

I am apparently not savvy enough to re-name a file extension. I have tried converting to a supported file extension but no help. Thanks for trying but I assume it is the actual label eg: Red Solo Cup-Keith,Toby is not acceptable.

Song List Generator needs your file names to be formatted correctly.
This means that you must utilize a file renaming application or do it manually. I have found that it is a combination of both that nets the best result.
I use Music Book Deluxe's "Karaoke File Renamer" to do the bulk of the renaming when I am ripping CDG's. I am receiving 770+ CDG's today, and I will be cataloging them and adding several hundred to my collection. While ripping, I just have to make certain that they are named with the correct manufacturer's disc ID and track number. I pay no attention to whatever CDDB pulls up as the disc.
Once I've completed the ripping process, I run them through KFR and then zip them up.
Then I use Song List Generator to create a brand new PDF of my song list. It usually takes less than a minute.
I then alter the PDF to add my own graphics, headers, footers, insert pages (rules, tips, karaoke trivia). I still print books even though I use a kiosk because I believe it to be very convenient for browsers. I print 4 columns per page, by artist, double-sided, spiral bound and my books cost less than $20 each to print with almost 25,000 unique titles (I include everything - children's, gospel, spanish, standards) at around 200 pages.
So... the reason SLG isn't working is that a file name without discID-track[space]-[space]Song Title[space]-[space]Artist Name as a format (or any other format like Artist-Title) isn't recognized. It uses the spaces around the dashes to determine the data fields.
For instance, I have the All Star Karaoke Disc with Red Solo Cup on it.
The file looks like this: ASK111-09 - Keith, Toby - Red Solo Cup.zip
I don't use song numbers (discID-track) in my books because I run digital, but the numbers are on all of my files because they reference the actual disc they originated from.
It is a monumental task to edit and rename all the files in a collection as large as I have. I've invested literally hundreds of man hours in editing file names. I have also discovered and reported dozens of errors in the databases of software that I've purchased. That being said, I still subscribe to MBD's database updates. That is partially due to the fact that in order to use their KFR, you have to have a current subscription.

If your songs are titled correctly in one of the standard formats, you're ready to create your books. Example: Disc ID - Artist (First Name Last Name) - Title The above is a standard karaoke naming format. If you don't have all your karaoke files in a consistent naming format you will without a doubt have problems generating a book. Song List Generator supports files with the following extensions: AAC AIF AVI BIN DIVX FLAC FLV GVI KAR KFN KMA KMF KOK M4A MID MOV MP3 MP4 MPG MPEG OGG RA RAM ST3 VOB WAV WMA WMV ZIP You will regardless of the file type extensions, have to have your files named consistently and the sister program from Latshaw Systems named KJ File Manager will be your best bet to clean up and name you files that you have. KJ File Manager is NOT a database like KJPro or KSLC. It is an editing tool of what you have on your hard drive(s) Read the Help file that comes with Song List Generator as there is good information contained therein.

If you ever purchase Zoom discs, they have all of their CDs listed on their website in an excel file, with all of the tracks, numbers and artists. Very useful for copying and making your own song list.

Great info! Thank you. I also discovered I did not have spaces before the dashes separating artist and title. All fixed now. Thanks again for the input.
