The information I was given is that the other company didn't copy my slips, they simply absconded with a whole bunch of them... used scissors or a paper cutter to trim my company name from the top... and use them as their own...
They'd have gotten away with it, except their trimming apparently was sloppy, and left part of my name on several of the slips...

It's just weird! And I'm sure makes them look bad at their shows!

I would simply put out less slips, or, like someone said, hand them out. The other option is to put them all on a table right where you can see them so that you can see who's taking a whack of them. Once you find out who is doing it, confront them and let them know you know. I would also head over to the other KJ and ask for payment. I had a patron who kept taking tons of my slips and it was starting to cost me a fair bit. I finally confronted him and told him no more. He said he was taking them home to fill them out, yet every night, he took more and filled them out there. I still don't know what he actually did with them. Maybe he was using them for notepaper? He was a water drinker and did absolutely NOTHING to contribute to my show. I can understand if you don't have a lot of money and can only afford something once in a while, but this guy has NEVER ever contributed to my shows. Ever. As for the kiosk. I use the same one Bird does. It's AMAZING! Unlike Bird, though, I use a small, older touch screen laptop that I bought off eBay so I don't have to haul a bigger setup around. I set it up on a stand (like a cook book stand) on table near me so I can keep an eye on it. No one has yet tried anything with it. It's treated with respect and there are no line ups. Best of all, no more printing slips and my "book" is always up to date. It's so nice to be able to say, "If it's not in there, then I don't have it". And the water drinker can't steal my slips anymore.

I don't care for the Latshaw program... not customizable enough. I make mine with MS Word: logo and name at the top, first line for singer's name, 3 songs lines, then website addy at the bottom. Six per page. I use FastTracks but if I didn't, I would use excel vs. word, excel is more user friendly when wanting to move things around.

I just use Publisher, easiest IMO, and far more customizeable than the free ones.

I used to make my slips with a business card application and then print to regular paper, rather than business card forms.

We just use plain white paper cut to buss card size. Nothing fancy. Either we find them on the floor or just gone, where who knows. Our singers are mainly drunk singers, can't tell you how many times a night we get napkins as song slips...

Was just talking about pens with someone--we actually get all of ours back and if we don't, they are usually waiting on the table for us the next week after the cleaning people find them. The person I was talking with goes through something like 30 a month.

I've never kept track of how many pencils, I do know that the incidence of loss has gone down. We have a sturdy canvas pocket (pen/pencil holder) in the front of the book. Each book gets a stack of slips and two pencils. I do find pencils on the tables and floor, and the bar saves them for me when found. But frequently, when I reload the books.. I may take one pencil from the box per night. Ours are printed with our name and phone on them...so if they are taken, I've got to look at it as a good thing

I am going to print slips at the request of my new venue for this weekend. Just going to use the printer at home using Publisher. I am going to print double sided with my business card on one side and song request stuff on the other. If someone walks with some of them, it is cheap marketing.

That's very true! Um, would be a good idea for Earl to do to stop them stealing his slips... *shaking head* I still think that is so weird!!

Ive been to a show where the host just sets out post-it-note pads. As far as pencils I seem to lose 1 about every other week. Each one of my books has 1 pencil and 6 slips at the begining of each show. If someone needs more slips they can come up and ask for them.

Post-It Notes are expensive! I started putting 2 pencils in because I only use 6 books now.. that way when the book travels to a different table, there might still be one pencil in the sleeve. You actually count the slips? Takes too much time...at the end of the night when I reload, I just want outta there!!
