what we need is a good Duplicate File Remover that will allow us to specify preferred version of a song title to keep and allow for a certain tolerance of file naming differences. Example: the program should have a way to prioritize SC as the first Keeper, Zoom as the second, Pioneer as the third and etc. so when it finds 5 versions of "keep your hands to yourself By the Georgia Satellites" SC, ZM, PI, LG, MM (Sound choice, Zoom, Pioneer, Legends, and Music Maestro) versions, we can tell it to delete all version except out top one, two three or four preferred versions, depending on whether you want to keep one version or two or three copies of the song it finds duplicates of. Also the program should be able to set a margin of error for names that are similar to consider them duplicates or not. Example 2 characters, 3 or 4, etc difference. this would allow the program to consider the following to be duplicate titles..... - Georgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands to Yourself
- Georgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands to Your self
- Georga Satellites - Keep Your Hands to Yourself
- Georgia Satilites - Keep Your Hands to Yurself
- Georgia Satellightes - Keep Your Hands to Yourself
Does Anyone know of a program that does this? A Program for removing duplicates with these features would be a KJ's Best Friend.

Have you looked at latshaw's Song List Generator? It has a duplicate thing in there... I'm pretty sure it wouldn't find typo's as duplicates though. For now I think it's just necessary to scan through the whole thing to check for that stuff.
I look at mine in order of artist... that way I can scan it visually fairly quickly, for artist typos. Then by song for title typos (although, this one is a bit more tedious).
As for keeping your most fav manu.. not sure about that. I don't put numbers or manu's in my books anymore. Song List Gen. will take out the disc Id for me to print my book without them.

Great idea!
I'd like to have a way to compare duplicates, and export a list of duplicates. Most of my purchases have been in bulk from home users to KJ's getting out and I'm pretty sure there are some disks that I could remove due to being completely duplicated by another disk or other multiple disks.
I use pilot karaoke songbook creator and I can hide dups, but haven't found a way to export a listing of duplicates.

Thanks For the input, but I was talking about working with my actual .zip files on the hard drive. not for organizing a songbook.

I'm not necessarily looking for a songbook organizer, but a way to identify duplicates so I can identify completely duplicated disks and remove them from my system.

Just out of curiosity why would you want to? People do sometimes ask for particular versions of songs & with hard drive space being as cheap as it is, why would it be a worry?

Do be honest, I only use 2 versions (Maybe 3) of any one song. "Keep your hands to yourself" is a good example. I use the KJ Tools Version and the Sound Choice Version. I don't need 5 other versions on the hard drive taking up space. it's unnecessary. "Turn The Page" is another good Example. I use the Dangerous Version and the Sound choice version. I don't need The DK, PI, LG, SGB, MM, BS, and CB versions too. It's just wasted Space.

Right, but I can see needing the extra space when shows were only running on 80-100 gb, but a 1TB drive even 2TB drives are under $100 bucks, there is no reason IMO to have to delete anything for 'space' conservation.

KJ File Manager will delete them from your hard drive. But you have to scan through your entire library yourself to find the duplicates. Like I said before... have it in the order by artist. Visual scanning is really not to difficult... you can highlight one at a time, then right click and delete the whole batch at once. OR move them somewhere else... which is what I would do. Store your dubs on a backup drive, just in case.

I would be interested in doing this as I have some dups by the same manu. If either of the disks are completely duplicated no reason to keep it. My library was put together from disks purchased second hand from KJ's locally, on craigslist and ebay and by doing it this way I saved a ton of money, but I also ended up with quite a few dups. I probably have less than $3000 in a 10,000+ track library, but with about 2200 dup titles, not necessarily dup tracks (same manu).

A quick google search and this:
"Duplicate File Finder, affectionately known as 'DupFiles', is a utility that identifies duplicate files in one or more paths. Unlike other utilities that only check file names, Duplicate File Finder performs a binary comparison of file contents and can locate files that are alike regardless of names." This will help you find exact duplicates of the same disc.
I keep all versions of the files on my drive. I use Music Book Deluxe's "Karaoke File Renamer" and its various functions to make sure they are all named exactly the same in the artist and song title fields. That way, I know every song by Guns N' Roses will come up under that spelling instead of Guns & Roses or Guns and Roses.
I don't use MBD to print songbooks anymore because my working collection has grown too large for it to handle as one book.

I realize this is not the ideal way to do it, but if any of you use fast tracks, it allows you to find duplicates, which you could then label as a subgroup list *ie duplicates* which you could export and use to delete all those tracks from your hard drive.
