Mr. H. says they're very likely legit. Here's his email:
This appears to be a legitimate disc. Several years ago, SC began arranging for licensing through the MCPS organization in the UK, whose licenses at the time allowed for worldwide distribution. One of the requirements of those licenses is that the actual disc manufacture take place in the UK. As is indicated on the front of the disc, the actual manufacturer of the physical disc is Mediaplas.
"Both of the CDs were manufactured through the process known as "pressing," which is a method of rapidly producing CDs that virtually all commercial producers use. (The one on the left is not a "burn," which is a slower process but which is more economical for short production runs.) The CD on the right was printed using an offset press, while the one on the left was printed using silk screening over a white backer. That accounts for the different feel of the resulting product.
So I would conclude, based on a photo inspection, that the disc on the left is legit. When your audit is done, the auditor will want to examine the disc, but I doubt it will raise any issues.
Thanks for sending these."
For those that didn't look at the pics, I put a known SC disc on the right with the questionable one on the left.

I've got over 500 feedback (more than 650 auctions overall) all positive and I've only ever had problems a handful of times and if I couldn't resolve with the seller, I contacted eBay. Every single time resolved to my satisfaction. I can guarantee I've saved thousands of $$ on eBay over the years. Just watch the seller's feedback rating. Check out accessories at your local cell phone provider and then price those items on eBay. No comparison! Glad to see your purchase items are legit!

I too, have had good stuff from Ebay, just never had bought karaoke there. YES, check the sellers feedback ALL the time! I've never had to get Ebay involved with a problem.. only problem I ever had was one guy that took forever to send my item & never would answer my correspondence. But did finally get the item in perfect shape and working order. Mr. H. did give me a good morning! I've learned yet another tidbit of information I never thought I'd need!

I have bought plenty of karaoke discs from e-bay. One year I found all new SC discs for $4 each, bought over 175 discs from this one seller alone. That filled out alot of holes that I had. Never been burned once. Feedback ratings are key. Those that get burned are usually dealing with sellers with some bad feedback under their belt. Just got last week a Lexicon MX200 effects for my show replacing a Lexicon MPX100, Lexicon Omega (larger version of the Alpha) for my home studio (both delivered within a week of purchase) & a dbx 223 crossover for my show replacing a Peavy VSX - still waiting on, but should be here today.

Just for clarification, I didn't say that Ebay was at fault if one of the discs was fake. In total I order 6 discs over the past week, 2 came from one ebay seller and looked completely different from each other, so that worried me. Of the other 4, two more also looked like the first suspicious one. Thing is, of the 3 that looked suspicious... they also look exactly the same as one another and all were from different sellers (one was not an ebay item). I am relieved that it seems they are legit. I wouldn't stop buying ebay even if they weren't though. Great deals found there... even the 'buy it now' is good. I usually buy it now because I hate shopping, even online, I just wanna get it over with and get my item!!

Lisah wrote: Just noticed something about those discs.. "Compiled and Producted by FSC - Mediaplas...... United Kingdom" That's an authentic disc, though the one I have is a burn. FSC MediaPlas is the mfr. subcontracted for the GEM series as well.

Over the last couple of years a whole lot of b&m stores have closed their doors, and there is a lot of new and unopened stock of older production out there now. I agree that E-bay is a good soource of music if you are careful- and ALWAYS check those pics. I won't buy anything without a pic. I just got a great deal on a bunch of used discs (I love myJFJ re-surfacer) for something like $18 bucks including shipping. The case that they came in ws worth $25 alone. There were even a couple of SC's, DK's ( which would be dupes for me, and other nice brands mixed in with some middle of the road stuff like Stellar. Don't be afraid of E-bay, just be careful.

No I see this all the time, however these usually NOS stuff have full jewel cases & proper artwork inside and shrinkwrapped. She said these 'new' discs just came in a plastic envelope, now not knowing they did some of these older discs over seas like that, the first assumption would be they were counterfeit being SC never sold those numbers with envelopes new. Now we know they did.

My wife and I have been heavy eBay buyers since it's inception. I have only ever been burned once and that was over 10 years ago. My wife buys something on eBay almost every week.
Seller ratings are key. Read feedback (particularly the recent feedback) Avoid buying from folks that have no rating at all. Insist on pictures if none are posted (I did that with my recent SC8125 purchase) Use the Contact Seller options and ask questions.
The people that get burned on eBay are the people that don't do their homework.

Lisah wrote: http://www.jimmybryants.com/SC1.jpghttp://www.jimmybryants.com/SC2.jpgTwo pics of the same disc, front and back. I didn't size them down so you can see the details better. Lisah – about two years ago I bought a similar disc from Doowop.com. No barcode, no hologram, also produced by New Milton, UK. I post my concern @ SC message board and I quote: “I ordered a spotlight disc from DooWop.com based in Kentucky and the disc I received was made from: (written on the disc plate) "Compiled and Produced by FSC-MediaPlas, New Milton, United Kingdom". It looks like a copied disc; the front is way much brighter than the red, white & black SC Spotlight original colors. I just want an assurance from SC that I have a legit purchased CDG SC # 8941. Thanks!” Answer from SC Studios: “Hi Brian - sorry for the delay in responding. Here's your answer, from the owner: Yes, it’s a legitimate disc. In an effort to bring back more “out of print” Sound Choice titles that had been discontinued due to expired licenses or low sales, our UK branch is licensing the songs through MCPS (which is easier and less expensive than US publishers and allows for world-wide distribution). We import and distribute limited quantities of these discs. Thank you for your diligence in being certain you are getting genuine Sound Choice products”. http://www.soundchoice.com/ubb/ultimate ... 1;t=001124
