I would venture to say that PART of the reason the
GEM hasn't been pirated is that you can already get all of the songs that are in the gem series from other sources.

However, I would be damned surprised if any of the tiles that are readily available are flawless copies at 320K

Be nice to know why....

I can tell you why, its very clear.

It is there so that if you break the agreement by pirating the GEM series, they can more easily nail your A$$ to the wall.

Interesting that in two years it has never been pirated. Wonder why?

How do you know it has never been pirated?

man I wish I could figure out why the quote feature isn't working for me.

However, the reason why its possible to tell is because all the mp3 information is in the metadata.. I think they also encode the original licencing information into the song but I don't know for sure. I do know people who say it is even possible to trace the download history of a song, but I have no way of verifying this.

Most pirated files you can readily find are extremely low quality, the qraphics are glitched and the music qaulity sucks.

Also there is the fact that the soundchoice logo in the graphics are different. Standard tracks the logo is red, GEM series is blue.

Now granted it would be possible to switch the CDG graphic file and pair them with the GEM music, but seriously who has the patience or the time to do this for 6,000 tracks?

Given all this, it is extremely unlikely that the GEM series has been pirated.

I have to play Devil's Advocate here and point out that the "Get Out Of Jail Free" card used in this ad has a Registered Trademark to Parker Brothers.

I asked Kurt about this. The wrong graphic was inadvertently attached to the email. The original, with the Get Out Of Jail Free card with the Uncle Moneybags logo, was intended to show the concept and was not supposed to be in the final design. They have replaced the image that was contained in the email with a corrected image and re-sent the ad.

Here is the correct image, which should have gone out.

I don't know about the guy who sells a copy to a friend, etc. What I do know is that the GEM series isn't "In the Wild" as they say. The first place they would show up would be the Usenet on one of the Karaoke newsgroups. The second would be torrents. To date neither has happened.

(Preemptive Reply  : If you do a Google search for "GEM Torrent" you will get torrent hits. These are not the GEM series however, but rather torrents that pre-date GEM. The torrent comments include the statement "this set is a gem!" and thus they show up in searches.)
