I can't see the realization in it. You LEASE/LICENSE/WHATEVER the Gem series for $3,000 on sale today an SC decides they don't want to be in business any more 6 months from now and recalls all IT'S (because you don't own it) merchandise from the licensee's because they don't want them out there anymore...End story you are out $3,000 and no way have you made enough money in 6 months to cover that!

The license agreement doesn't allow for that to happen. You are entitled to possession of the discs for the entire term and all renewals.

Because good singers seek quality music. Not stuff like SGB.

Agreed, which - though seem to imply otherwise- is why I carry CB, DK, Zoom, Priddis, and even few SC's ( they DO make nice duet tracks, and I like some of the Star series for convenience), and other top brands.

BTW- I don't rate Stellar much higher than SGB- generic karaoke. What keeps them in the top end is merely quick output.

Of course, if a KJ has trained their singers to be dependent on a single brand, the KJ would also be dependent on said brand. I don't see that as a good idea, because the brand then controls the KJ's business, but that's just my own opinion.

I don't decide what's "best", because there is "best". There is only "most popular". I do my singers the service of exposing them to mny brands. I get a LOT of compliments for not sounding like what is fading away here- what they describe as "generic" sound alike shows.

For instance, I have never met a singer of "Georgia On My Mind" that didn't think that the Legends version blew SC's out of the water.

Some like to bring up SGB. Their version of Son Of A Preacher Man is ALWAYS perferred to SC.

If one gives their singers a choice, they will CHOOSE- and appreciate the opportunity.

Of course, if that's to much work for some KJs, so much the better for a Karaoke Host such as myself....

Except, the license explicitly states that can't happen. Your fear is unjustified. In fact if SC "decides they don't want to be in business any more", you win. The GEM discs stay with you forever, and you pay nothing. Ever.

I don't believe you would get your $3,000 back if you tried to sell it. I don't know if there is a clause somewhere that SC has put out that says if you sell it what the price has to be, but gosh darn sure that the person you sell it to will have to sign an agreement with SC just like you did.

Well what you believe is up to you. Some believe that Elvis is still alive. Some believe they will retire on shrink wrapped SC8125 discs in their gun safe. Some believe SC is watching them from black helicopters.

You can "sell" (actually transfer the license) to anyone you want, for any price you want. Hey, you could even make money on the deal if you are a good salesman. And yes, they must also sign the license agreement...unless SC is out of business as you predict, then you can do whatever you want.

You don't have to do that with a Car Fleece. You can sell the car to anyone you want at any price you want as long as you pay the buy out price to the people you have the Fleece with.

You have dreamed up scenarios that don't exist. And like before, the GEM is even better.

You can "sell" your GEM set & license to anyone you want, for any price you want, and you don't have to "buy out" anything like in a car "Fleece".

It is obvious from your choice of words that leasing/licensing frightens you. In actuality, they are common business tactics for a variety of reasons. Legit businesses lease equipment or license products every day. It is nothing to be afraid of and can work very well in your favor, as the GEM set does.

If I was just starting out, I would seriously consider this option. Great versions of songs at a great price. I would dig into the fine print to ensure I understood all the ramifications.

However::::I'm not just starting out, I have invested thousands of $ in my collection which already has a great deal of duplicates. Buying in "lots" was the cheap way to start out but it (the method of purchasing in "lots") lent itself to duplicates. The last thing I need at this point is a bunch more dupes.

Having said that, I do have access to CB's entire library but I only buy the ones I want to buy,,, new releases and classics that I don't have but someone requests at my show. SC, you need to team up with Invicion, how can you keep ignoring,,,, not potential sales but for sure sales? I'm sure you have your reasons, I'd like to hear them!

i have several therories on this, but at this point they are just that.. Pure speculation.

AT this point in time, I don't think soundchoice has the infulence or the money to license a hard drive of 6000 songs that would be legal to use in the US and Canada.

especially since a lot of the songs that are in the GEM series are currently out of print.

after all, they just can't license thru the UK anymore, as that loophole was closed as of last year.

I agree with this 100%. Imagine if they had their entire catalog available ala-carte in CH? Wow.

Also how would you implement a dual credit system? There has to be some kind of system that makes sure that the credit used goes to the right producer.

You you have 'chartbuster' credits, and 'sounchoice' credits? that might be a lot harder to code than you might think.

And if there are 'universal' credits, where do you buy them from? how do you make sure the right person/producer gets the money.

I'm not saying its impossible, but it would be a huge hassle for everyone involved..

i think it would all require going online at some time to update the purchases. but as long as CH could keep the credits separate (like separate bank accounts) having two, or even three (Stellar) credits would not be that bad.

Why would there need to be to be separate credit systems at all? Isn't there some kind of record that can be printed out of what was purchased/unlocked? If so, that would distinguish which manus were bought.

I don't see it as being hard at all. You wouldn't have universal credits, as they are separate companies.

You would simply have two buckets of credits from which to draw, one for CB and one for SC. CH would already know the company the locked song belongs to and would debit accordingly.

I will shamelessly steal that. I've said the same thing many times, but not so colloquially. 8-)
