Some of you will find this interesting. The owner of a bar that I host karaoke at texted me Thursday and was all excited about an upcoming "idol" contest he wanted me to host. I texted him back there there are a lot of issues he should be aware of before committing to this. He told me that it wasn't a karaoke contest, it was a singing contest, no lyrics and that he really thought it was going to go over big.

I told him I would support it the best that I could but that the same issues I was thinking of regarding a karaoke contest would still apply. I let him know I would print some lit up and bring it to him Friday (this past Friday) for him to view and told him if he still wanted to run the contest after that, I would support.

The lit I was referring to was posts from this forum. I printed out a total of 6 pages that I took screen shots of and cut most of the headers out. When I got there, I gave it to him in a folder while I set up.

He came back a half hour later and said he no longer wanted to run the contest. I told him that if he changed his mind, I would still support. He still insisted that there would be no contest.

Just saying, if you want to educate an owner on what to expect, don't just tell him/her, let them see all the comments that have been made in this forum.

Nope, he already had that side down for the most part.

Earl, from what I've seen on the boards and with me spending a lot of time in Canada, it would appear the chance for success is higher north of the border. I don't want to typecast Canadians (especially since I carry a permanent Visa) but in general, folks up there are not as high strung or rude as folks down here. Again, just speaking general terms. Seems we have more prima donas here.

"The gig you save may just be your own".

Rip, great job educating the owner via exposure to BOTH sides. I think you did both the and yourself a favor.
