Karaoke Forums

Ok, I know this will probably be easy for you guys to answer. I have a list of 100 top dance songs (not karaoke). So where can I go to order (custom) discs with these songs on them. I am "all karaoke, all the time" at my shows, but would like to have these songs for "specials", like private parties, or weddings. Looking for a site where I can check their songlist, see if they have "my" songs, compile maybe 5 discs of 20 songs each, and order them. I've seen sites with "free" mp3 downloads, but am assuming it's the same as karaoke (illegal) is that right or is it different for plain music? Thanks for your help.

I just buy them at Amazon. They have most of the songs, most are $0.99 , and if your venue pays ASCAP/BMI you won't have any trouble.

Amazon or itunes is where we get our one here, one there songs from as well. A great subscription for music (this is just a reference as I know u stated you are mostly KJ) is Prime Cuts. We have their music and video subscription and love it.

I buy all my CD's used from gohastings.com. They're in like new condition and cheap. If you just need one or two songs then Amazon is the way to go...

I believe that as long as the venue is up to date on their fees, that you can use the Zune services as well. For as little as $10/mo for unlimited access to 99% of the music in the Zune Marketplace. There are a few artists labels that initially release albums/tracks as purchase only for a specific time window before they end up in the regular market place.

This is NOT a streaming service though there are streaming capabilities. All music is downloaded to a device or a computer and played with the Zune software. Just like an iPod only a LOT less expensive.

As an example, I pay $15/mo and that covers me and two of my daughters. I download a fair amount of music myself but my daughters download......everything.

Tracks can be downloaded/sync'd to up to 3 capable devices and 3 computers at any time. Admittedly there are some funky timing restrictions on adding/removing devices and computers but for our scenario it is actually pretty simple since those of us running computer based have reasonably static environments.

If you're going to do some DJ work you might consider getting Virtual DJ software. Thier unlimited downloads are 9.99 a month, and it downloads to Cache so you don't need to be online to play.

Thanks for the options (so far), but I have no desire to be a dj, I love being a karaoke host, with no dj sets, etc. So, since that is the case, I'm just looking to add the top 100 dance songs of all time. I've found a list that I think would be satisfactory for any "special event" that I might acquire. So it would not be in my best interest to join a music club, etc. If i could just find a business that sold music by (custom order), that would be perfect. Mckyj, I'm going to check out amazon. Never ordered music from them, so I'll do some investigating as to how I can find, and order these songs. Any other info is appreciated. Thanks, Rosario.

Hum...Just the top 100 dance songs. You'll never find the top 100 because no two people have the same 100 in mind. Every few weeks we have a request for yet another we don't have, and we have hundreds apon hundreds of dance songs. We have Cumbia, Salsa, Tejano, Reggaeton, Pop, Hip-hop, Rock, 50's rock, slow country, two step, line-dance, ect...Get the idea?

Pyledriver, you've missed the point. I already have (what I think) to be an adequate list of 100 songs that could be used for an event. I'm not trying to please people every week with (dj) music. I have enough work trying to please the karaoke singers. So, as I said, if I could just get these songs, I'd be satisfied. I know what you mean about the top 100, because if we could KNOW the top 500 KARAOKE songs, I wouldn't have 15,000, and omly hear the SAME 100 week after week.

I get most of my music from Amazon as well it's pretty straight forward. So far there is not a song I needed that they did not have.

I'm not sure what you are asking here. Are you saying you expect to get PAID for this event that you pick the top 100 songs YOU like? I would say, stick to karaoke and forget it.

Koyote, why is it that people ALWAYS want to put words into other people's mouths. I DIDN'T say these are MY favorite 100 "dj hits". Since I have to explain, I went onto the net, found a list of the "DJ" top 100 songs of all time. Found a list, since my show is "strictly" karaoke, if I planned on doing an event which included karaoke, AND dj music, I would at least have a decent number of MOST POPULAR songs selected by DJs. If I'm doing a four hour event. and even if HALF of that time was dj music, we're talking 30 songs MAX. Also, I'm not an idiot, I'm a business man. In the event that I would be asked to do this type of "special", I would of course discuss what I have with the client, (in advance), show them my karaoke songlist, AND my DJ songlist, if they had any "special" song requests, we could negotiate at that time. But at least I would be able to tell people that I DO have some "dj" music, but I am PREDOMINATELY all karaoke, which is what I prefer. So, if you can't be CONSTRUCTIVE in your comments, and answer what the question was, as others have done, please don't try to tell me how to run MY business, and I won't tell you how to run YOURS. As a DJ, I would have to tell you that I don't think you can market yourself this way successfully. The songs played at any event with DJ are dramatically different than Karaoke, and they are not static, they are fluid. They are different for every event. It is mostly dependent on the age of your crowd and the type of event, but they also change depending on what's popular on any given day. There are songs that yes, do get played regularly because they're universally liked across the board, but I can't say that I've played anywhere close to the same music at any two different parties.

You are going to need far more than 100 songs. You'll need music in a bunch of different genres, as well as a steady supply of new music as it comes out. IMHO.

Jon, it is what it is. The OP was very clear on what advise was needed. If we all wanted to talk about what it takes to be a successful DJ moving forward, we could start that thread.

srnitynow did get answers to the question. It appears you didn't get the question regarding this one time gig only - "Once you open the DJ bottle at your gigs". One time gig does not = gigs.


Amazon is the way to go for 100 songs. You will pay $100 for 100 songs. In the long run you could be persistant and get those 100 possibly cheaper with CDs but would take a long time. iTunes will cost you a bit more as most newer songs are $1.29 and at a minimum $.99 for all others.

Thanks Rip, again, it seems (as you noticed) people wanting to put words in another person's mouth. As I said, at least there are SOME people still on the forum that will pay attention to the OP, and answer the question asked, and not the answer to the question THEY invent. Pyledriver, if you choose NOT to respond to my posts, that's your prerogative. I don't think it will hurt my feelings, Im pretty thick skinned. Pardon me for saying so, but I think you're being pretty harsh to those who went out of their way to try to help you. Nobody was intentionally trying to "invent" questions -- they were honestly trying to help you.

I think it's important to remember that if you solicit information, since nobody is inside your head, they perhaps might not know precisely what you're getting at, and may answer as best they can, with what they think you are looking for. If you don't like advice you get, or don't think it's pertinent to your situation, then simply ignore it. I think that's much better than chastising people for trying to help you.

Under the circumstances, like Pyledriver, I think I'll sit the next one out.
