No I didn't see anything about such letter. I also think it's interesting that just purchasing a drive makes you "certified", they weren't even interested in what else I have, or in auditing me. Totally different approach from SC

I'm curious is the CB cert that comes with a large purchase a one time deal? Meaning does it not have to be re-newed?

I was under the impression the CB cert was $199 per year and not a one time fee like SC.

The certification is as of a certain date...meaning that if you were to add Chartbuster discs and rip them to hard drive, you would not be certified for those. I assume you would need to do an audit for the new content in order to be fully "covered".

Just a heads up for those of you who think that they may be missing songs. The ORIGINAL set of Chartbuster essentials 1-6 had tons of songs that are no longer available in the essentials sets that are currently sold in digital format because of licensing issues.

Almost everything by garth brooks, for example, was discontinued.

That means if you happen to have an older set of discs, you will have songs that will not be on the hard drive.

James

Beside that, they also have the facility to remove songs that were resident on the drive when you received it. Hopefully they will get on the stick and implement methodology to notify us when songs have been removed.

That's why you back up the drive as soon as you get it and never let the back up connect
for updates.

this brings up an interesting question.....
go online for the update and they will remove the songs that are not licensed anymore, does it have a check to make sure it does not remove that song if you have unlocked it?
basically, can it also pull unlocked songs that have expired licenses or did they account for that in the design of the software?

Once it's purchased, you would not have to relinquish the song - just like any disc that may be recalled.
However you would want to store the unlocked song on a different drive than the original.
But I do believe even CB states to back up the drive upon receipt. So if anything gets recalled you still have the locked version that can be unlocked.

There is no unlocking of songs on the drive I purchased. That must be for the other thing from CB, this is just a regular hard drive with mp3+g files on it.

I was talking about the 12,000 'entire cb library' hard drive... no unlocking on mine. The unlock-able song drive one is the KJ Media Pro drive... different animal. I am a Certified KJ listed on CB's website as if I had gone through an audit. Does the KJ Media Pro drive come with the Certificate?

How do you know this. Has anyone verified that songs have been deleted?

Would that mean you have to remove it from YOUR list if they delete it from theirs?? And would they give you credit for those songs, since you bought them??

Wow, what a rip.

Either you sell them or you don't.... But to first sell them... then "take back" any part of your purchase seems a bit like a "bait 'n switch"....

I would love to be able to "sell something" and than strip away portions after the sale.

I don't believe that they should sell and/or transfer a copy of song that isn't licensed and that is in effect exactly what they are doing. because the only way you could actually get all the songs is if you unlock them ALL the minute you get the drive.

CB tells you to back up the drive when you get it!

If you never let the original drive connect to get updates they can't
remove anything.

Connecting with only the back up drive they could remove stuff but if
you already have it unlocked and stored elsewhere what difference does
it make.

If they remove it you can always get it from the original drive.

I have a program that can check the difference between 2 drives and it
tells me if there is something on one drive that is not on the other, so if
they removed something it would tell you that the drives are not the same
and you could take the appropriate action to make sure that anything deleted
from the backup drive was replaced from the original drive and anything new
added to the backup drive was added to the original drive.....Did I loose anyone?

Sounds like you have File Synchronizer from Latshaw, a great program and free to boot.

Isn't circumventing their licensing protection method in such a way a lot like hacking a program, or purchasing a loaded drive or trading files? Wouldn't your end product be an illegal file? And if it actually could work that way (even unintentionally) wouldn't that be a major flaw in the KJMP that could/should lead to it being pulled from the market?

This is one reason why I went with the 12000+ drive over the KJMP drive. It was a lot more expensive but I don't have to jump through any hoops to ensure music doesn't just disappear.

I really do like the concept of the KJMP drive though. It is a great example of forward thinking that the industry needs. I would like to see them work with additional software vendors to open the drive up to work with other software players.
