I thought they quit doing those? According to a few that have tried lately.

I don't see how this would be of any value to a KJ who buys original discs. If I have 100 stellar cdg's the only way to be certified by them is to pay $3200 now or no telling how much later?

@Lonman - From July until a couple months ago, Stellar was implementing a new computer network that caused them a lot of grief and trouble in producing paperwork and certificates. I touched based with Tony Walstra this week and they have that all lined out and are still doing CAP's.

@Hitek - There really is no value in a CAP for ODB hosts or for people that have small quantities of Stellar content. The value comes from it being basically an amnesty program (my words, not theirs).

In theory you can obtain a CAP and then "acquire" everything covered by the CAP in any manner you see fit and you are not liable. More specifically you could buy a pirate drive for $200 that has every CAP Track on it and then a CAP for $3200 and then you have a legal Stellar library from 1995 - 2007. I think it is in the area of 20,000 tracks.

Of course the program is designed to assist people that were duped into buying what the thought was a legal library and in fact is not. This allows them to keep the music and get legal.

other than that, is there any way to get "certified" by them?
it seems if i steal them, they will help, but if i buy the discs, not so much. or since they made them mp3+g are they just giving the ok to shift?
i would ask myself, but they have never returned a single call or email in over a year asking about it.

Even the CAP program is not a certification persay. They have no "CAP'd KJ's list" on their web site. In fact they don't have anything on their site to promote KJ's or venue's specifically. Just sales of their music.

The CAP program is interesting. While I B&M about the other 2 certs, this one is REALLY different.

The ONLY possible reason to buy it is if someone definitely pirated the material. Anyone who owns the discs would have absolutely no use for it.

That being said, it IS way cheaper to beat the rap than one of SC's settlements- assuming all of the pirated tracks are included on the CAP disc list....

My question is: How does paying this sum ( much cheaper price than buying the discs by a LONG shot) make ANY dent in piracy?

the only lawsuit i have seen from Stellar was the one against drive sellers.
this seems to be just good PR to help get the ones who got screwed by a seller get legit and Stellar get paid for the material.

It's for the pirates, but it can help media shifters, too. If they shifted everything from 1995 - 2007, they are now protected if they buy the CAP. For me, it wouldn't be worth it, because I only have two PHM discs.

Bobby,
If you request the list of covered disc (in the CAP) program it is not all music from 95 to 2007. The total of songs is right around 4000 tracks. The CAP was never intended for Technical Infringers AKA 1-1 media-shifters

Blessings

I have two sets of music with over 360cd's in each set of Pop Hits. I have paid once, and will not pay twice nor can I afford to pay again.

KJGreg...the cap is NOT intended for those who have a 1-1 ratio of disc. If you own the discs the CAP is not for you.

It's only needed if you pirated your songs.

Athena - Unless I am reading something incorrectly, my CAP covers ~21000 titles. There are of course MANY duplicates in there, but the total list of tracks that was sent to me as a part of my CAP is rather extensive.

I just copied it from my PDF to Excel and it came out to 21267 lines. Subtract a few hundred header lines and that leaves ~21000 individual tracks.

Of course, this is for *MY* CAP at the time of *MY* agreement with Stellar. Your mileage may vary.

Combined Top Hits, Pop Hits, and U-Best discs in my library....... 11. Fast output, but generic karaoke.
