next come the law suits, now they will be going into business to sue people like sound choice!!! what and F'd up way to make money.....

At least they aren't still calling themselves a Karaoke company, unlike SC. They are at the very least, more honest than SC. They are calling this new entity Piracy Recovery, LLC. At least you know what they are about.

Yes, they appear to be about protecting any new revenue generated from lawsuits from judgments rendered against them.

I just think it's funny -- when one of these companies files a lawsuit against a KJ, we practically have a cheerleader-lead lynch mob. When someone files a lawsuit against SC or Chartbuster, there is not a peep. It seems to be very hard for some people (not talking about you, Bobby) to believe that their precious manufacturers might not be as white as the driven snow as they want to believe, so it's easier to ignore it altogether.

This new change in names appears to be a shell game. I might be wrong, but, then again....
I know you aren't talking about me. I could never be accused of cheer leading for the karaoke companies.

Not all of the website is gone.

I was thinking about starting a KJ business with the streaming service & that page is still there.

Kinda reminds me of June of '08 (or was it May) when Panorama (Top Hits Monthly) went out of business from losing a huge lawsuit for not getting permission or paying royalties to the artists, not to mention they were also sued by Stellar. They didn't go down as a result of KJ's, they went down as a result of their own piracy. They may not be gone COMPLETElY, they may just start going after bootleg KJ's to recoup the money they just lost to CAVS.

I'm still going to find the actual DISKS to buy..... I run a CAVS system and I would hate to think of what would happen if it ever died & I didn't have the disks to re-load if I had to. It would be a nightmare.

Not sure how I feel about having bought the "12,000" hard drive and the certification that came with it. I guess I will have to see if the cert. carries any weight or benefits down the line. I was told the new company will renew certifications when they are due (yearly?). I have a year to see if it's worth keeping. I think a labeled certified drive and all copies of disk and SD card media are enough proof that I am legitimate to any court, don't need to pay $199 for additional proof if that's all it is.

the cert was not to prove your legality, it is the yearly fee to use CB material on a computer. that is why it needs to be renewed yearly weather you purchased new tracks or not. if you don't renew it, you can not use CB material on a computer.

They sold me (and others) hard drives. How else would we use them? Or are you only talking about material originally sold on disks?

I bought a drive with their music on it, the cert was a bonus. Since I am using the music in accordance to the format it was provided on, I have no further obligation to pay for it's use. Unlike the GEM, which is licensed, the 12000+ Drive is not. I own the 12000+ music and as long as I play it from that drive, I am set.

What comes into question are the Charbuster Discs that I have ripped done because I was given persmission to do so as a part of the bonus certification. I have already started breaking those out for easy removal at the end of my certification period in the event DigiTrax pulls the plug or modifies certification in a manner I don't agree with.

Chris, please tell me you backed up those 12,000 songs. CB even said that they are not responsible for lost or damaged songs if that drive should fail.

WAAAY too much is being made of this. The principals of CB are involved with Digitrax. This would give me the idea that they simply dissolved the old corporation to get out of debt - current AND upcoming ( like the large CAVS payout- from legal issues.

The idea is to dissolve CB. It's gone, so there is no entity to hold the debt liability, or liability for anything ELSE. They create a new corporation that is debt and liability free, and move the assets under it's protection, leaving those owed holding the bag.

Not ethical, but it happens every day.

birdofsong wrote:
That was EXACTLY what I told Chip today when he told me. I'm pretty sure that's also why Chartbuster isn't the named Plaintiff. It appears as though they created a new company to front the lawsuits, so any judgments or settlements can't be levied against when they get hit by CAVS.

Well, Digitrax is actually protecting their own label by using a cover corporation to front for them while doing the dirty work- not more honest, but certainly smarter than SC.

BTW- if you read any of the SC lawsuits, you find this line:

Slep-Tone IS (my emphasis) one of the leading manufacturers of karaoke accompaniment tracks

Note the "is". Was, maybe- but IS? An absolute pile included in the lawsuit itself. Credibility?

I received the below e-mail tonight from the CompuHost (Karaokeware) people who supported that HD Pro Drive. Hopefully this helps

Dear Chartbuster KJ Media Pro HD User,

It's with great sadness that we must advise you that effective May 10, 2012, Big Mama Digital Entertainment Inc., also known as Chartbuster Karaoke, will be closing its doors permanently. Chartbuster Karaoke has been an unequaled pioneer and contributor to the Karaoke industry for many years and they'll truly be missed. Unfortunately, their demise will obviously affect future access to their entire line of quality products and services, including their on-demand service marketed under the name "KJ Media Pro HD".

The existing Chartbuster library will be transferred to a new company, "DigiTrax Karaoke". As the name implies, DigiTrax will focus almost entirely on modern day digital delivery methods, utilizing technologies such as KJ Media Pro HD, Streaming, and other exciting new advancements for the future. Although their new website is not quite ready for primetime, please stop by and enroll in their mailing list at www.digitraxkaraoke.com .

We at Karaokeware, have been working diligently with both Chartbuster and DigiTrax with the goal of a seamless transition, hoping for little to no effect on end users. Unfortunately, very recent and unforeseen legal obstacles, culminating out of issues we were never made aware of, have complicated matters, and therefore may threaten and/or prolong what we had hoped to be a seamless and speedy transition. As a result of these recent and unexpected events, it may be necessary to suspend the KJ Media Pro HD service for an undetermined period of time while legal issues are addressed and resolved.

In the meantime, as already stated, Chartbuster Karaoke has been ordered to cease all operations effective May 10, 2012, including management of the KJ Media Pro HD accounts under their control and responsibility. Therefore, it's vitally important that you withdraw ALL credits from your online account(s) before May 10, 2012, preferably as soon as possible. Effective May 10, 2012, their accounting servers will be shutdown, and all credits remaining on account will be subject to forfeit.

Fortunately, we're excited to announce that upon completion of the transition, Karaokeware Inc. will be taking over full control of the technology, allowing us the opportunity to provide a more dependable, effective and convenient end user experience. However, until the transition is complete, the KJ Media Pro HD service remains under the full control and responsibility of Chartbuster Karaoke. Therefore any further questions or concerns you may have should be directed to them at orders@chartbusterkaraoke.com .

Once again...
PLEASE WITHDRAW ALL CREDITS CURRENTLY DEPOSITED IN YOUR ONLINE KJ MEDIA PRO HD ACCOUNT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN FORFEITURE OF ALL REMAINING CREDITS!

We'll continue to keep you posted as the transition progresses. Hopefully it will be short lived.

Sincerely,
Sales Team
Karaokeware Inc.

I bought the 12,000+ certified drive from Greg a couple weeks ago. No way will anyone be able to buy up the Chartbuster library at 22 cents a song ever again. That was a 'right place, right time' situation. I paid for it outright, no financing so it stays mine all mine.

Greg told me to make a copy to use at gigs and keep the original somewhere safe. The songs are all digitally watermarked with your account number so integrity is assured. You let it out in the wild and it will come back to bite you in the (@$%&#!).

Last year I bought into the Media Pro HD so I have that as well. I was going to use that system for updates so hopefully Digitrax will keep that system in place. It is a great system for getting new music on the fly.

After I got the letter posted above I immediately updated the Media Pro HD and transferred the credits onto my lappy so I'm good to go. I'm just going to sit back and let this all play out. Hopefully it will work out for everyone. I really hate to see such a major influence in the industry go through tough times. They don't deserve it.

I have researched this thoroughly and find absolutely zero documentation stating use of the songs after purchase is subject to an annual licensing fee. What I DID find on the actual product was a statement saying that you own it.

in addition I specifically asked Greg about this and he confirmed once you purchase the drive, it is yours to use forever.

Correct. Functionaly equivalent to purchasing the CD's. Pre-shifted and not audit required. Plus a certification to boot for whatever it may be worth now.
