on iTunes, at a price of $.99 per song either as a track or a demo
versionl Karaoke fans have begun to spread the word with results

I've probably bought 100 or so karaoke versions of songs on itunes. Problem is, no graphics. Do these have graphics?

Songs from i-tunes do not come with graphics. However, on many songs that I've purchased from i-tunes; you can buy a karaoke album of a song which is 3 different versions of the song. One with lead vocals and 2 without lead vocals. The 2 without lead vocals are different in that one has background singers and the other is a total instrumental track with no background singers.

Making the graphics for these types of albums are pretty easy. You just make the graphics for the lead vocal version first so you can see if the swipes are correct when the song is playing. After you get that done to your satisfaction; just swap the karaoke version tracks into the software and create new bin files and you're done. You get all 3 versions of the song for just $1.99 and a little bit of time.

In my opinion it is always worth buying that lead vocal track to start out with. Trying to get it right with just a karaoke track can be difficult. They aren't always exactly the same as the original artist's version of the song.

Nah, I would rather have ready made karaoke. But thanks for the info.

Some songs will never be made for karaoke so if you want them; you have to put a little effort into it.

Bruce, intresting that you brought this up. I was playing poker with an ex karaoke store owner, who lost. He offered me a software package from his stock called Karaoke Master by a company named IPE / eMedia Music Corp.

It's has a bunch of functions including making your own karaoke ( we all know how well the VCM works on these things, but as long as there are tracks without lead vocals it should be OK), plus a music mixing studio, vocal training, rythm training, and a bunch of other things.

My question is whether you have ever heard of it or have any experience with it. If so, any comments or criticism would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any input! :)

Are they available for commercial use, if I make my own graphics and convert it to a cd+g?

Coach, I'll venture a wild guess here.

Since the music is still under owner/publisher control, I would guess that technically one would still have to get permissions from them before using such a disc in a show.

On the other hand, I have no evidence that owner/publishers have any great interest in going after individual Karaoke Hosts at this time.

Like downloads, the liability would certainly be there, but the odds are very low that Sony or similar folks would come looking for you.... for now.

Please note that I wouldn't do it or recommend it, I'm simply making an observation for informational purposes.

I would also add that I have yet to see a home made disc meet the quality of one that is professionally made. I'm not saying that they don't exist, only that I have yet to experience one.

Please re-read my quote above, including that which I have emboldened.

Yeah I know, was just responding to that very part, just quoted the entire statement.

There is a brand of Homemade karaoke discs out there called Dancing Frog Karaoke. The guy has made well over 500 tracks from tracks purchased from karaokeversion and other on line sources. The guy who makes these homemade tracks also makes CDG tracks for Sunfly. One would have to assume that the quality of both of these brands are equal. no?

I also would concur with Lonman here and say that some of my home made tracks are better than some of the commercially available tracks out there. At least my lyrics are checked for spelling and accuracy. I recall a Chartbuster track where they spelled "CLOUD" as "CLOWD" and there are many karaoke tracks out there where the lyrics are way off from the original lyrics. I'm sure that I've made an error here and there along the way but I'm not trying to sell anything that I've made to thousands of people either.

Never heard of it. I use the same software as Lonman. It is called Karaoke Builder Studio.

I would be willing to take the chance as long as you didn't try to copy the typical Pocket Songs Splash screen and add it to your file. That would probably be a clear cut case of counterfeiting because you are trying to use the Pocket Songs reputation to give your product credibility that it probably doesn't deserve; no matter how well you create your CDG files.

That's what I figured. I bought a bunch when I first started out just to use at home. The Alice Cooper - Only Women Bleed is the best version I've found so far. I've sung it a few times in public, hope I don't have to buy a Certificate.

Really? You bought one and it had graphics? Which song? The one I bought to test did not.
I didn't think it would as iTunes downloads are AAC and I have never seen an MP3+G on iTunes. It states "Karaoke Version Instrumental Only". I doubt any of the pocket song tunes on iTunes have lyrics, as we need them.

LOL. Perhaps I have latent dyslexia. I read "They Do", not "Do They".

So. The answer is no. They do not.

I just went to the Pocket Songs site and snipped this quote:

"We offer 2 types of formats to purchase from our website. Neither include CDG, printed or text lyrics. Both formats are strictly AUDIO ONLY!

1 - mp3 downloads. Converted to 192 kbps quality - from our original Just Tracks and Pocket Songs multi-song collection CDs"

The 2nd format is with lead vocal
