Here is one for the old timers....
I know the Pop Hits Monthly and Top Hits Monthly have certain disc lines that overlapped for a period of time. I am trying to figure out exactly what was duplicated across the two companies, The problem is that on the Top Hits Monthly side, they splintered off a bunch of goofy lines and it isn't an easy thing to track.
I am hoping some old timers know exactly which product lines were duplicated across both brands.
I am trying to reduce duplication in my libraries, clean up my books and break out dupes out for other rigs or to sell/trade.

There's a lot of overlap /repeats between the two brands. Up until THM went out of business, I used to get THM for Country, and PHM for Pop. I think that at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the songs were repeated from month to month.

There were several years - late 90's to their demise a few years back that they overlapped, it would be quite the chore to list which were which. Although I preferred PHM on much of the dups over THM.

I keep hearing that PHM and THM are/were the same, and I say -- no. I much prefer the PHM instrumentals to the THM ones. THM lead breaks are terrible, and I *never* think they have the best version I have heard. There are a couple of country songs where I won't do any version but PHM, they are that much better than even Sound Choice. (PHN0201-01, PHN0306-02, and SINC0401-05.)

no they weren't the same at all..... i much prefer the THC over the PHN any time. but the pop was better on the PHM side....
they never produced the exact same songs on an entire disc, but did have 1 or 2 of the same songs as they produced top 10 hits for the month...
i think it was NOV of 06 when they stopped producing...

i think it was NOV of 06 when they stopped producing... You could usually get most duplicates between a 3-4 month period between the two. Sometimes it would take a few months. Both did have songs that were exclusive to each though as well.

i think it was NOV of 06 when they stopped producing... Me too... I preferred THM Country over PHM, and I preferred PHM Pop over THM. It was sometimes as many as 3-4 songs that carried over between the two companies. Yes, they each had exclusive songs to each other, but they did sometimes catch up within a 3-4 month period. You could probably match up at least 1/3 of their libraries to each other as duplicate songs. As for going out of business. THM's last disc was June 2008.

I do like both but certain THM country tracks do get extremely close to the original artist performance tracks.

Paradigm Karaoke wrote: Pop hits made Top Hits among others. Actually, in 1995, a brand named Top Hits Monthly came out. They produced discs from Sept. 1995 to Dec. 1996. I believe that these were from Stellar Music. Sometime later, Panorama came out with a brand called Top Hits Monthly, and for several years, Tom V. (Stellar Records) was suing Panorama for trademark infringement on their name. At this point, Stellar changed over to the name brand Pop Hits Monthly, while Panorama used the brand name Top Hits Monthly (all up to June 2008, when they went out of business). Eventually, the brand name for Pop Hits Monthly became Sing-It-Now. Somewhere along the lines, another brand was briefly out there called Pop Hits Today. They came out on August 1998 thru December 1999, and had 3 more discs after that with 3 new months (9913, 9914, and 9915 (I still never figured out what months those were )). I don't know if these might have been part of Stellar or not.

that may be it Cue, this is what i got my statement from, but you may have hit the rest of the story.
from the Pop Hits Monthly front page....
"Since 1993, Pop Hits Monthly has been producing some of the highest quality sound recordings in the record industry. Our highly coveted sound-a-like recordings can be found on many projects ranging from independent and major filmmakers such as Universal Studios, on television shows for MTV and others, as well as karaoke products for companies such as Stellar Records, Sing It Now, All Hits, American Gold, UK Karaoke, Dangerous, Top Hits Monthly, Country Hits Monthly, Rising Star, Memorex, and many more."

I believe they bought those names. They didn't actually create them.

i htought they made tracks for those companies, not had any other affiliation with them. not that they created them, but got contracted to make their music. Like SBI contracting Sunfly to make theirs.

Paradigm Karaoke wrote: .....as well as karaoke products for companies such as Stellar Records, Sing It Now, All Hits, American Gold, UK Karaoke, Dangerous, Top Hits Monthly, Country Hits Monthly, Rising Star, Memorex, and many more." Most, but not all of the brands mentioned here are covered under the CAP. So there is some sort of affiliation. The reason I started this thread was that I was under the impression that THM copied from PHM or vice versa. That apparantly is not the case though. I spent quite a bit of time organizing and properly naming music files over the last week, and didn't run across any discs that were exact copies between the two brands. But there is significant duplication of individual tracks, particularly for tracks that are more recognizable. The old PHM/THM discs seem to be less common in the libraries I have picked up, but I do have a significant number of each now. Given the duplication I am seeing it is looking to be viable to just split up PHM to one rig and THM to another and have pretty good coverage. Btw.....I appreciate the history being represented here. It fills in some holes in timelines for me. -Chris

PHM and THM weren't the only labels involved. Don't forget U-Best ( UBG discs).

THM had a good number of songs that the only way to have them is from their rock disc. Those are the gems of PHM and THM the rock disc, most of the older pop stuff is available in Sound Choice.
