Once again. Who owns the sync rights? Bruce Sptingsteen? and is he going to show up in some karaoke bar and stop me from singing "Jungleland" or is he gonna join me on stage and buy me a beer after we're done? In my fantasy, Bruce asks me to create CDGs for all of his music and then he sells them to all of his fans out there.

Not necessarily, just because one wrote & recorded a song, doesn't mean they actually own it - John Fogerty & CCR comes to mind. He wrote all the songs, but the deal he signed screwed him out of all the royalties & has no say about them. I'm sure Bruce is a little smarter than that, just saying it isn't necessarily him that owns the rights. I'd like to do that as well, but for other bands as well.

Looks like I'll just have to take my chances and play the odds. I believe that the odds are in my favor that whomever owns the rights to the handful of songs that I have turned into CDG files, will not be showing up at the same place that I happen to be singing at.

Zoom & Charbuster have produced a lot more better sounding tracks

Micky wrote: Zoom & Charbuster have produced a lot more better sounding tracks Sound Choice is most consistant with their quality, far more hits than misses, but yes they do have their stinkers. But CB & ZM produce many stinkers as well. I have both manus and expecially CB, ALOT of the older pop/rock i'd put right up there with SGB if not the same music (hmmmm, Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man comes to mind.....don't they own....nah another topic), they did get much better within the last few years. I also have quite a few Zoom have found several out of the few tracks I have that I wish I never bought, mostly due to badly produced/engineered recordings, over processed and WAY too HEAVY bass - otherwise when they are on - they're on.

I guess ethics are optional for some...... ETHICS????? Chartbuster just got shut down for selling songs that they had no right to sell. Sound Choice repeatedly released songs that they didn't have rights to produce. Have you deleted all of your CB and SC songs from your library? Someone who loves a song enough to purchase an instrumental track and then create a CDG file so that he or she can sing one of their favorite songs at a karaoke show is unethical in your mind????? That is RICH! CB and SC can make millions of dollars over the years while selling tracks that they shouldn't but I'm am accused of having no morals because I don't think creating a few karaoke tracks for my oen personal use is a terrible thing to do? Do you ever drive over the speed limit? If the answer is yes; then you are a law breaker that just hasn't been caught yet. Shame on you. If some musical artist happens to "catch" me singing one of their songs at a karaoke show; hopefully, he'll come up on stage and sing it with me. Worst case scenario is the guy would probably ask me not to use that track any more unless I pay him a license fee. Until I get asked to pay someone; I'm going to keep singing my favorite songs...as unethical as it may be. A thief is a thief is a thief. If you don’t like the word don’t undertake the action. Write your own song and build a karaoke track if you like.

I guess I'll just take my chances driving a safe 10 MPH over the speed limit. There's always a bit of a cushion in law enforcemnet.

@wallyd: I have been using Power Karaoke software for about 5 years now. I have been able to pick up most of my songs from Amazon.Com. I take the MP3 file, pull it into the software,go on-line and get the lyrics. Then I play the original song and verify the lyrics I got on-line and make changes if necessary. The lyrics you get on-line sometimes are not the lyrics the singer used.
I then pick a title, background, credit page and font size. put in the lyrics, then do the highlighting of lyrics and save the song to the title and then burn it to a cd as a cdg file. I have purchased quite a few original Dean Martin songs without his voice, but original music and background vocals @ 0.99 each, what a bargain! Some of the Dean Martin songs produced by Karaoke companies sound nowhere like the originals and I am very particular about getting original music for not only myself, but for the singers when I do a karaoke show.
