Man our last few weeks have been wayyyy deader than normal - some nights are lucky to get 5 singers - even last Friday was dead - although first weekend of really nice weather, many were out in the sun and camping. We are always slow around the tax season but start bouncing back around the first couple weeks of May - and right now it just isn't happening this year it seems. Gas prices are a big cause I know.

I posted a few weeks back about the slowest night I have ever seen. It picked up, but it is still not what I am accustomed to. We have been averaging about a dozen singers a night for the last 3 weeks.
I am about to launch a heavy marketing campaign not just for my existing show, but to raise awareness of my business all up. I hope it leads to more people coming to the show and some leads on new gigs.

Our predictable slow nights: • Bad stormy weather, like thunder & lightning • In between pay dates (varies) • Big tv events, i.e., boxing champs fights, cliffhanger tv show finale(s) • Friday night after Thanksgiving, night before NFL superbowl • X’mas weekend

I know the prdictable nights, i'm talking as of the last few weeks. It seems many bars around here are experiencing the same thing. I just talked with a couple hosts, and one said there was NO ONE in their bar the entire night last night (we had maybe 10 people), they (the other bar) closed early - 11:30. The other said he's lucky if he's getting a couple singers at all.

it has been slower, but not nearly as bad as you got it right now. Thursdays seem to be the biggest struggle, weekends we are down to about 20-25 singers right now from 35-45. fewer people overall as well.

I've spoken to other KJs in the area, and they all seem to be experiencing some sort of down-turn, but our numbers have been very good.
We had 37 singers on Saturday even though several of our regulars were missing. We saw a fall-off in February that lasted a couple of weeks... but other than that, our numbers have been either steady or growing.

Busier than normal. Fridays were great during tax time (late-Jan through Feb) and they died of all of March. Starting in April, picked up rapidly and have been probably our best 6 week stretch ever or Fridays.
In fact, this past Friday, we were busy again. I reasoned that we were busy because Mother's Day being on Sunday, people "went out Friday instead of Saturday".... then Saturday was another good night.
You have to understand, I am in a semi rural area. I'm 10 miles off the main highway. Tourism in this area does not start until Memorial Weekend, so I pretty much draw from a small pool of potential customers. Can't explain it, but things are good here.

Business has been picking up for me as well. Most Wednesdays from January - March, I've had like 5-10 singer rotations, the last three weeks has been about 10-15. I'm pretty consistent with singers on Saturdays, at about 15-20 singer rotations, the last few weeks have had a TON more non-singers, though. The non-singing crowd probably averages about 60-80 peeps, the last three weeks was closer to the bar seating capasity of 125-150.
I guess all your singers are on vacation in FL!
It's funny, here in my beach town, we are actually busier when there's bad weather, as it cuts down on things to do outside! Also major sporting/TV, etc. events usually cut down on the early crowd, but make the 11-11:30 and after crowd absolutely insane after they leave or stop watching the event. We're definitely everyone's neighborhood bar/last stop for the night.
Hope things pick up for everyone! I know that TYPICALLY, things start picking up for me right around the start of June when school gets out, and stay pretty solid until August.

Dunno Lonnie. Our shows have been pretty steady for the last month (our venues are in small towns and one that is way out in the boonies). The only real slow down we saw was our Thursday night show probably the first week of March. But overall, it has been good (the Thursday venue has even added us a 2nd night now).

We went from a record breaking night to barely there in one week's time. But it always goes up and down or the bigger crowds alternate between Friday and Saturday. We expected a bit of backlash as we had too many singers for a small place for a few weeks in a row.
We keep track via our receipt book and the third week of May last year was one of the slowest all year. For us it often has to do with the first good weather hitting and people doing outside things--we have a reservoir and camping nearby. We start early and as the days get longer, people don't get into party mood until dark so we get a slow start. There are also more activities like sports and free outdoor concerts that compete.

School's are getting out....Summer's Coming, Memorial Day is around the corner, people are saving their monies for Gas for Vacations. Its been reported that there will be more people traveling by car this Memorial Day than has been in years.

Leave it to you to throw yet ANOTHER SC dig in a thread it doesn't belong. But no I seriously doubt that is the issue.

There is also something going around right now--fever/congestion/fatigue--don't know if its a cold or a flu but it is hitting our area the past few weeks.

Great night tonight - 25 singers! But the bar also had a dart tourny & half the singers were people with the dart players & players themselves after the matches were finished. I think when league starts back up in a couple weeks we'll be back up to snuff. Just hate these lulls in between, and this one seems to be more than normal. I remember when darts & karaoke didn't mix at all - now it seems to go hand in hand. I am putting a new ad in our local karaoke magazine for next month (and possible article), we'll see how it goes from there.

Our singer lists have gone down by about half... from 28+ to about 15, but the bodies in the room have increased by at least half. It's actually been great, more people dancing and participating in the show, even if they don't sing. Bar sales up by about 70% too. Nightlife has changed a great deal in the past 10-15 years. Can never tell why it's busy then dies out. The usual cycles just don't seem to apply in the same ways as they used to.

Nice just heard on the news, as if they weren't high enough, gas prices in our area (WA & OR) are going to jump anywhere from $.10-.35 per gallon by the end of this weekend. That could push gas over $5 at some stations here. Making WA the highest gas prices in the nation! THAT is not going to help the bars here.

I feel the pain Lon... California here. Our prices are going up as the rest of the nation says they are going down. But in Cali, we have a 'summer blend' that they pull out as an excuse to charge more. I get so sick of all of it....
