Perhaps a 1/2 dozen times now, I get a singer going, turn to my laptop, and a few seconds later I hear two people singing. I turn around to find my DJ mic in the hands of someone that joined the original singer.

Not only do I mute every mic that is not immediately in use, I don't even the singer's mic on until I have introduced them.

I hate those that get up and see a mic and immediately have to a) sing along to the filler music, b) "is this thing on" ttap tap c) talk over me while I am introducing them.

If someone tells me "I have to go", then I say "Well then you have to go. Sorry. Come back when you can stay longer". I am not going to bump someone up just so they can leave and p1ss off the people who are still around waiting their turn like adults.

Dam straight, Bazza! Besides, if they're leaving, they're done spending anyway.

I have found that in my case, half the folks who are "leaving" are still there by the next round anyway, the lying ba$t@rd$....

1st singer: Mary sang solo.
2nd singer: Donna (Mary’s friend) duet with Mary, the song was not a duet. Mary sang the whole song while Donna just stood there holding the mic. I had my reservations that maybe Donna will sing the other half, didn’t happen. By then it’s too late to stop the music.

2nd rotation – I skipped Mary. She asked why & I told her she sang twice last rotation. Mary fuming mad, told me I’m so unfair, grab Donna & out the door with parting words “we’re not coming back here again”. 2 weeks later, they’re back & never pulled that trick on me again.

I remember the days when I used to get so mad about restarts. Thanks to Virtual DJ, I no longer care. In fact, if a singer misses their first note, I'll tell them "STOP" or "HOLD ON" while I quickly restart the music right where the music starts - without missing a beat.

This, instead of the typical 3-5 second delay for the manu's title screen before the music starts.

Hey, as a singer, I've had kjs having the volume turned way down, so you couldn't hear the short intro on some songs, and look at me and say.......what's wrong?.....so put me down for kjs, that mess up the beginning of a song, and then whine about giving you a restart........ oh, and kjs that take a half a song or more to get the mix right(not to mention one's that never find the mark)......I could go on and on..... :) ....you all are not without sin......throw them rocks...

Had a singer a few weeks ago fill out his slip with only the song title Mississippi Moon with no artist. I start the song Mississippi Moon by John Anderson and he stops me saying that's not how it goes. You know "oh black water, keep on rolling, Mississippi moon wont' you keep on shining on me". I reply "Oh, you mean Black Water by the Doobie Brothers"!

I am mainly referring to those singers who get up on stage and then talk to their friends and continue to do so after the music has started. Or, those that just can't find the right key off the bat. Or, those in general who aren't paying attention.

Restarts used to be initiated 100% by the singer, but I'd say half of them now are initiated by me. And my line is usually "Oops! My CD just skipped...."

I can even load up a different song, or different version and play that one instead, changing songs without any dead air.

As far as getting the mix right, yeah. That's probably me. I know what it sounds like out in the audience, and despite the fact that there is an elaborate stage monitor, the singer often times finds it necessary to "fight me" on the controls. The louder they get, the more I turn it down. The more I turn it down, the louder they get.

As far as intro's go, I also usually turn quiet intros up quite a bit. When I see that the music is about to get loud, I am right there by the controls, turning it down the split second before it gets to that loud point. I find this necessary because quiet intros usually cannot be heard (by anyone) over the din of the bar.

Why is it that the worst singer is always the first one to the show and the last one to leave?

Why does the worst singer always think that they are one of the best singers in the venue?

Gotta love the bad ones that sing the same two or three songs a night. So not only do you here stuff over and over, you get to hear it badly. When I suggest other stuff for them ivariably they want you to sing it with them.

My Chartbuster Essential disc 1-08 broke about 3 years into my life as a KJ, and I refused to replace it because I was so sick of Friends in Low places.

There were others (Paradise by the Dashboard Lights comes to mind) that I flat-out refused to get as they lead to nothing good happening.

And there seems to be an unwritten commandment; Thou shalt not sign up for American Pie lest it be 3 minutes before closing.

Man... I have such a love/ hate with that song. Hate the song, love the cigarette and cocktail break it affords me.

i am lucky in that most of the people I know that do the same songs over and over and over again will at least take suggestions into consideration.

I also used to get a lot of people who would try to put up a long song close to closing time, usually when I had more singers than I could handle as it was.

friends in low places, paradise and picture are my least favourite, and therfore most sung songs when I go to karaoke.

Hmmm, from what I've seen over many years, take away the bad singers, the divas, the whiners, those that can't follow rules.... yes, all the annoying customers mentioned here.......you'd only have a few singers at a show..... :)

I like ALL of my singers, the good, the bad, and the ugly..... I just hate anyone that tries to abuse my equipment. Tapping on the mics, swinging the mics, turning the monitor, screaming in the mics. I guess what I mean is I hate JERKS. Their only purpose is to try to ruin the show. They only get one chance with me, the second, then they don't sing on MY equipment anymore. What really kills me is that STUPID look that they give me when I say "you're done". Like the "soup nazi" says "no singing for you"

Had a guy one night that as the song started was swinging the mic by the cord...stopped, told him not to do that. Towards the end of the song he squats and sticks the mic right against my floor monitor. Gave him a swift kick in the butt.

Yes, we'd all be out of business if all we had were professional-level, courteous singers... but where else can we (@$%&#!) about them if not here?

It set me free....... :) ......talking about swinging mics, a few years back, I took an old broken, corded mic to a couple of shows where I was a regular. I'd hide it when I got up to sing, and take the host's mic, and hide it by my left side, while I brought out my old mic into my right hand. I'd hold it by the cord, and start swinging it.......man would they get excited and start screaming.......pretty funny when they figured it out.....actually worked when one host had only wireless mics...
