We decided before we started running shows that there were things we dis-liked about some shows we sang at. Not having books at every table and every 4-5 seat at the bar was one of the things we decided to do when we started. At this point our singers are spoiled and it is our fault. Two other main dis-likes were unfair rotations and smallish selections that were not updated. We also came up with solutions for those problems that have remained consistent over these 18 + years as well. We also incorporated the things we really liked about shows we would sing at as well. This has worked well for us for all these years.
Blessings Athena

I think I have decided I hate books. Just the thought of sitting and stuffing 10-15 new binders makes me physically ill.
Think I'm going to go with a 1-page, double sided laminated "menu". One side with a list of general rules, the other with a list of popular songs/ artists, a few from every genre to help spark ideas.
Most of my singers know coming in what they're going to sing or have their songs already saved in their singer history. Newbies can check out the menu and come axe me for songs, I don't mind at all.
But I will certainly be looking into these apps and kiosks.
Good conversation, thanks all.

After spending $41 to print out new books only to find out that the numbers no longer correspond to the numbers in the player's database now that I added more songs into the database and had to do a full import of data due to certain new songs and the folders they were in.

Kiosks rule. I remember stuffing sheet protectors, too. And paying for books. Updating a kiosk is as simple as a mouse click, and totally free. Our kiosks are old Windows 98 machines on dollies with used touch screen monitors (but you could use old CRT monitors, too. I think we paid about $70 per monitor, and the computers were free, because someone was throwing them away.

I think kiosks could be cool which is why I will be debuting my kiosk at my next show. I will still put out the new books so they can browse at their tables but I will help guide them over to the kiosk.

If I could find a kiosk software that integrated in with Karma, I would check it out. So far everything integrates with only other hosting software or is a separate app that doesn't integrate at all.

i would prefer one that does not integrate into a program. i dont need dave putting in a song, then one for big d, then one for davey boy. if i have to put them in the rotation myself i can put them together. for those using the kiosks already, how do you get past the part of not knowing what a singer looks like? if the hand me a slip, i get to see them face to face, but at a kiosk, who do i give the mic to?

Our kiosk is in the sight line of the host equipment. So when a song pops up to my receiver program (it pops up in red so I notice it right away) with a name I don't know, I look over and see what the person looks like. It works fine.

I'll keep a couple books around for those who like to look at them, but I'm probably going to go with a kiosk in the near future. Many of my venues don't have internet access, and I don't have a phone with internet.
The way I run the show now is by having those who want to participate let me know, and I put their name into the rotation. When I call them up to sing, they give me the song title and I just type it in. No slips, no pencils, and the singers actually prefer it this way. Still, I would like to have a kiosk in which folks could look up my songs, as opposed to paying out the wazoo for printing up books, only to eventually having to spend even more money to reprint and replace them.
Since I just want to list my songs without having the singers "text" me their selections, can anyone recommend a kiosk program to me? Thanks, BT

Do you mean that they just browse the list and then tell you what they want? If so and you're already using Fast Tracks for your books then Invicion has a free viewer available to you. You don't need actual internet to connect two computers together. I have a wireless router that I connect two computers together via wired connection. I personally u se Compuhost's kiosk that is intrigated into my hosting software so that their requests get sent into the que. Now you may want something like Karaoke Songfinder or tricerasoft's Super Remote Request Tool where it isn't intrigated into the system.

Text to me means, they pick up their phone & text their selection to the hosts phone. I have had that happen on occasion, I will usually tell the texter to get up off their butt & at the VERY minimum, come up and tell me what you want.

So what happens when the three guys at the table is Dave, his son Davey, and their friend David and Dave brings the slips up for all of them?

What I meant Cuey was that Bird stated she watches who is at the Kiosk and assumes that Dave/Davey, and David are the same person. This is because there is no interaction between the host and singer. Had the singer brought the slips up the host could aske if they are ll the same or different singers.

I for one, will no longer be using song slips. What I do now is tell all who wish to sing to let me know, and once they do I put their name in the rotation. When they come up to sing is when they tell me what song they'd like. All I wish to do with a kiosk is to have my songs listed for people to look at and decide upon what they wish to sing. I'm not looking at having them to be able to send their request, like I said, they can tell me when they come up for their turn.

The free viewer from fast tracks is probably what you want.

What I said was that the kiosk is in my sight line, so I can see what someone signs up with a name I don't know. Here are the variables we didn't discuss: 1. My kiosk requires a last name or last initial; and 2. I speak to all of the patrons. If I see more than one of the same name with a different last initial, I verify that it wasn't a typo. If I see two names that are similar, I verify with the patron that they are different people. If I see someone up at the kiosk and I see different names being put in each time, I confirm that the person is not putting songs in under more than one name for themself. Why is there an inference that if you run a kiosk, then you sit behind a system and never speak to anyone. And why are you so hot to paint me or my situation in that way?

I just shot an email to Latshaw asking about kiosk support for Karma. I would like to stay with Karma but want the kiosk to be integrated.
