Until the perfect Streaming and Cloud Karaoke will still come off of discs.

I don't care what A.T.T. and Verizon says there aren't reliable signals all over.

I sure wouldn't want to rely on Streaming with the possibility that I could loose a signal and thus shut down the show!

I have had a Sprint broadband card since 2008. While signal might be hit or miss in rural areas, I have never had a problem with not having internet connection while I have signal.

Ever.

...Wow Troy, you're very fortunate. I wish I could say the same here.

even here in the Tampa Bay area internet access is VERY spotty. I would not count on streaming to run a show. Having a place to store my libraries that have been audited and upload new discs however would be fantastic...if it were reasonable. This would allow me to update with little problems and for me and my customers to view songbooks using an app...if they choose to do so. The ebook reader books are doing well as an addition to my printed books after some tweeking.

More and more bars are offering free wi-fi to their customers. Those that don't are quickly becoming the minority.

If you happen to have a bar that does not offer wi-fi and they show little inclination to do so, you may consider offering to purchase their internet for them for 6 months. Let them see how they will easily make it back over the course of a month. Just a couple-few extra dollars a day will be break even for them.

I am going to issue you guys a warning about your competition. Like the marketplace and technology, they are evolving. Several years ago, I gave up Saturday karaoke during the summer so I could concentrate full force on weddings. When I entered the marketplace as a full-service DJ, I didn't have to buy thousands of CD's for a few hundred songs. I simply bought that internet card and buy one song at a time, should I have a request for a song I don't have. If I happen to be at an event where I can't get signal, I buy it from my phone and hook my phone up to my system. I make it happen.

Your competition is also making it happen. Don't sit there and give every excuse in the book as to why you can't rely on your internet connection - because while you are doing just that, your competition isn't.

More importantly, just like me saving big money on start up costs because I can buy one song at a time, your competition may also have a similar advantage in the near future, in that they can just buy a streaming subscription - problem solved.

Either you evolve, or you'll get revolved.

Ours offers free wi/fi, but I wouldn't want to rely on a streaming service through ANY internet connection - especially wi/fi. I have a Clearwire acct that drops it signal every once in a while for no reason. Our bar's wi/fi is not stable enough to rely on by any means, some nights I cannot even get my dj computer to connect to it.
I'll stick to the old fashioned method of actually storing the songs on my own host computer.

I agree with Lonnie. You cannot count on streaming or Wi Fi. To many factors can happen to lose signal. The cloud and other streaming services may be fine for home use but not for professionals. Especially those that are truely mobile and go to different venues all the time.

That's why CompuHost's HD Media Pro was the best answer. Buy credits, and have access to CB's full catalog of songs whenever you need them, No Internet Required! And according to CompuHost, they are working with more manufacturers to get on board. That is what I'm looking forward to. Streaming won't work in a professional enviroment. Then again, I don't think it was ever meant to.

Provided the actual publishers don't sue them out of existence (the other manus that is) first.

TroyVnd27,

I am not resistant to change and am lucky enough to have insane libraries of discs to use for my shows....when internet connectivity has improved in my area enough to be a viable option (and it is legal) I would supplement my libraries with a "cloud" or "streaming" service. The biggest benefit I can see for this type of service would be to those entering the karaoke business...to decrease the cost for them. I believe that tracks will remain available on a "hard media" for quite a few years to come and would just prefer to purchase tracks in that manner. We already are seeing a steady influx of new singers due to the fact that we offer more/unusual tracks than anyone in our area. "Newbies" even think our LD files are the newest thing because of the cheesy videos...and that makes me ROFLMAO.
