So I came up with what I hope will be an informed and pleasantdiscussion on brand preferences.

We all talk about whatever brands we- as Karaoke Hosts- prefer. I'd like to try it another way- the SINGER'S, and I'm hoping to enlist Bruce to help start the thread rolling.

First Artist up: Bruce Springsteen.

Singer to Match: BruceFan4Life ( I don't think anyone would argue for another in this case :D )

Question: Do you have a favorite brand to sing his songs from in general?

Question: Do you have favorite brands for different tracks?

Question: Do you have a recommendation for a single artist disc? ( Best balance of track quality with song coverage)

That would be Springsteen. Can anyone else match a singer on the the forum to a favorite artist ( Elvis, Sinatra, Gretchen Wilson, Ozzy Osbourne- it doesn't matter) and pull similar information?

NOTE: I have not mentioned my favorite brands, and hope no other hosts do either- not looking for a P*$$ing contest, just information from singers.

... just information from singers.

My response is not quite directed towards a Specific Artist, but more towards a Specific Genre. Although I do host (as infrequently as that may be), this answer is coming strictly from a Singer's point of view (which just happens to be about me).

That being said...

Artist (Genre) Up: Broadway Musicals
Singer to Match: Cueball

Pocket Songs or Just Tracks (which IS Pocket Songs minus the multiplex versions). I have been singing Broadway songs for many years at Karaoke... at least 2 years before I started to KJ, and I became self-aware of this at that time (and still strongly believe it now).

Sticking to the topic that this is Single Artist Specific (or, in my case, Single Genre Specific), I would have to give the same answer... Pocket Songs (and this answer is covered in more detail with the next question).

Pocket songs produces (what I believe to be) the best quality music and most well-balanced selection of songs for this genre. Aside form having compilation discs (ie: Andrew Lloyd Weber Songs), they have individual discs out for most of the Broadway titles that have been out there (old and new). On some of their discs, they cover the entire show, while on others, they cover the highlights (or most memorable songs) from that show. Also, Pocket Songs produces their tracks in Multiplex versions, so that if you are not familiar with the songs from the show, you can learn the songs from the Multiplex version.

Cue, a question.

I have a singer who has her own Pocket Songs - Andrew Lloyd Webber disc. It seems the music engineering is screwy. The heavily orchestrated non vocal parts of songs, particularly on "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina", seem excessively loud compared to the rest of the track. Do you have this issue, or could it be that particular disc?

Willametteduck;

I really started this thread ONLY for the purpose of specific singers giving THEIR opinions of the tracks that THEY sing. The above could derail the thread. Would you be kind enough to PM the question to Cue?

Thanks in advance- Joe

Killer Karaoke has a few good tracks that I like

My favorite Springsteen tracks are the ones that I make for myself. Mary's Place, Sandy, She's The One, Long Walk Home, I'll Work For Your Love, I Wanna Marry You, Ramrod, One Step Up, American Land, Jungleland, and my most recent addition, Racing In The Street....to name a few.

Having witnessed Mr. Swingcat Kurt sing the Blues Brothers, I would say they are his singer preference as well. I can't remember which disc he was singing off, but it sounded and looked good.

First Artist up: Johnny Cash.

Singer to Match: Me; Would love to pick someone else but Im mostly a lurker and have never really heard anyone else sing.

Question: Do you have a favorite brand to sing his songs from in general? All Star Karaoke

Question: Do you have favorite brands for different tracks?
There are a few tracks on SC or CB that are good.

Question: Do you have a recommendation for a single artist disc?
All Star Karaoke ASK-1547 Disc has Ive Been Everywhere actually by Johnny Cash and not Hank Snow. Also it very good quality on all the other tracks. Favorite is Highwayman on that disc.

You know I sang some the other day and I think possibly that SC and All Star are pretty even. I would however pick All Star because of Ive Been Everywhere. I dont know how many times of turning in slips it took me to actually ask the host if the song was really Johnny Cash or Hank Snow. I looked the doofus on a few too many occasions on that one.
