I'm curious as to what the Executive Producer of the Jimmy Kimmel Show has to do with Karaoke?

From what I understand he is best know for being the excutive producer of the show although he has other ties to the karaoke industry - plus he was invited as was Karaoke Scene Magazine as part of the media!

Hopefully they don't announce how much harder they are going to make it on legit KJs by adding more hoops to jump through. This whole Cloud thing bothers me, only because if a place has no internet, they can join no cloud. I will have to check out the transmission.

Had I known about this more than 1 week in advance, I would have liked to have gone, if nothing else to meet some of the "big wigs" from the other companies and get their perspective directly.
@smoothedge Why should the venue be responsible for providing you Internet so you can do your job? Get a WiFi hotspot. Cost of doing business.

The event was by invitation only - I was only advised about a week ago.
The owners of Karaoke Scene Magazine have other obligations as do I, plus I cannot financially afford it.
Believe me I would loved to have been there, great connections with important industry people at this summit.

From what I have heard, the public (IE: KJ's) were specifically not invited. This was a closed door, invitation only conference which is p1ss poor origination in my book. This could have have been a wonderful opportunity for everyone. They still could have had private meetings, but also productive, public ones.

From what I understand, this is the initial meeting to discuss the future of the industry, innovations in technology & delivery, as well as, piracy. They are offering the public the opportunity to see the meeting live. Trying to organize an event like this is difficult enough without having it open to the public in the beginning. This event will hopefully be extremely productive - opening the doors to future "public" events. We are fortunate to even know about this to begin with, plus invited to view it LIVE. They didn't have to inform anyone that it was happening and only advised the public afterwards.

You can get your own hotspot?? That I didn't know.
Yes you can. I'm a sales manager in the telecom industry, and rather than sell you on a particular company--particularly as I don't know the coverage in your area off the top of my head--but Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint all have their own mobile broadband solutions: Verizon: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/stor ... egoryId=13AT&T: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/hotspots.htmlSprint: http://shop.sprint.com/mysprint/shop/ph ... bId=dt_mbcNot sure if the links will work for you, due to the fact that I had to jump through hoops to get to the specific pages. A word of caution, though--I'm not sure how big karaoke files are, but cloud/streaming/etc services tend to eat up a lot of data, so a small, inexpensive package option may not be the one to go with.

yes, Smoothedge69 you can purchase a hotspot device to attach to your "smart" cellphone and connect to the internet in that manner...for us it would be very expensive as an unlimited data plan that would allow for "tethering" 6 shows a week four hours per show (and decent coverage) would be over $800.00 per month + the cost of the device(s)and no guarantee of connection). In other areas the cost may be less and coverage better...this is just the prices for our area. Athena

Most of the major cell phone providers have USB dongles that will give you internet on any computer through the 4G network. About $60-80 a month for unlimited data. Not as fast as a wired connection, but pretty reliable.

TopherM,
Areas must be different. a unlimited plan that allows tethering here is running much more...the "unlimited data plans" by the major companies here will "throttle"(limit) your connections after less between 3hrs and 5hrs of use per month if they think you are tethering...it is spelled out in the fine print. To run a show you do need to know your connection is not being "throttled" . In this specific area Verizon has the most reliable signal as a generality with less pockets of poor signal. The quote they gave me was $759.00 per month with the usage I estimated(with an annual contract). Other companies were as low as 599.00 and as high as 880.00 without throttling.

There exist several "HotSpot" Apps that allow you to "tether" without the vendor knowing.. As far as the vendor knows, you are watching a video.. Now as to the "Unlimited" data plan, if you are grandfathered in, you are golden.. Don't upgrade your service or they cap your data.. The cheapest today is a Netzero hotspot.., (Yes, the old free internet company) http://www.netzero.net/?refcd=GO2012041 ... QgodEjGRcg

you may wish to check into the link above......just read the fine print....it would be a huge pain to end up "limited or tethered" and not be able to run a show if you were depending on internet connection. Thank you JD...I will check into this plan and see if it would be stable enough in our area. We really would like to have a "hot spot" available for a number of reasons and this would save a ton of cash if it would work Athena

Well, I don't know what time this meeting will be, but I sleep during the day, and work nights. Unfortunately, the only access I would have to a PC would be at my job (after 7 PM EST), and Streamed sites are blocked by my company. I guess I'll have to settle for the reports back from any of you that watch it streaming live.
