My question is how many songs do you have? I'm curious because I know a lot of kj's market themselves by how many songs they have at least in my area. I know realistically every bar you go to you hear the journey , the 3 non blondes , summer nights , etc and it seems everyone sings the same songs. But from a marketing perspective or being able to tell your clients you have a solid library just trying to get some ideas on the average kj and the number of songs they typically have in a song book . Thanks for reading :)

How many songs you have nowadays is a rather moot point to make. If you have access to the internet (and I do, at all my shows) - you have access to pretty much all of them. If you aint got it, you'll get it - on the spot.

If the number of songs is truly a selling point in your area (like your bar owners are educated that much), then they'll understand that this is much more important than the size of your book.

I am sitting at approximately 55,000 tracks with about 1000 discs that I still need to catalog. There are of course a LOT of duplicates there.

I don't know how many different songs I have. All I know is right now I have been busy deleting all the duplicates created when I bought the CB 12,000 drive. I already had all the essentials and some other CB so now there's tons of duplicate files...

I have wifi where I work. Not EVERY song is available for legal download, but there's a large and growing selection.

What site(s) are good to use if you get a request at show and you go and download it right there? That's a great idea doing that. I'm sitting at 18000 with no duplicates and wondering if that's sufficient but as I mentioned there are so many "filler" songs lol

I'm at 6204 songs now and have 25 credits left on my KJMedia Pro. Anything not on the KJ Media Pro, I pick up either through SBI and Karaoke Version. I have even gone to All Star for one song.

We have well over 100,000 tracks (ignoring dupes over 3)but that is split over 3 systems and does not count over 1500 discs we are processing currently.
****sorry does not count LD files in each system either just remembered and edited

I probably have anywhere between 4,000 tp 5,500 unique karaoke songs.tracks. I would even go as far to say that I probably have the best oldies collection of karaoke tracks in all of Southern Alberta possibly the whole province..

Last time I checked I had just over 10,600. I don't count dupes. I also have 1100 credits on my KJMP.

I have about 58,000 (with vocal not included), all are on cd about 4700 different cd's. No downloads or media hardrives. Lot and lots of dupes especially SC and CB. Most of my music is pre 2007, and almost none (maybe 10%) has ever been song after 1990 release date.

That is 10x more than sufficient. As long as you are picking up songs that people actually ask for and not stuff you want to add.
I'm at 13K over 20 years. People complimnent my selection over those spouting off 100K+ all the time because I have the songs they want to sing that those 100K kj's just can't seem to get for whatever reason (probably don't actually want to spend the money.
I buy custom discs from selectatrack and Clark Music (SC customs).
Large selections are not a huge selling point now days as most of those selections are usually duplicated at least 1 time some songs massively if they were made between manus. 99% of the time, those large libraries were bought off an auction site so even their competition that spout those same numbers have nothing unique to their selection. Just get what people want and maybe some known 'top' hits off the Billboard charts & don't worry so much about how many you have - doesn't matter.

Don't forget to get song YOU like to sing, too.

It's alot if it's what the singers want. Have to figure maybe 60 songs on avg per a 4 hour show. 420 individual songs per week - provided there are never any duplicated songs. 1 year of totally non-duplicated songs would need over 21K songs. Again IF every song was never sang twice in that year which just isn't gonig to happen. So if they are the right 3500 songs, that is more than plenty.
The kj's that buy new stuff (not talking pirates) through the year to accomodate their customers are going to build their library obviously. I'm at 20 years and only have 13K songs, but I also don't buy alot of sets that are going to purposely duplicate what I already have. I try to but only stuff I do not have unless it's only on a disc that is NOT available anywhere else and I need that ONE song.

1082 CDGs, a handful of All-Star Karaoke and KJMP downloads = about 18,500 with dups, about 13,500 without dups.
