We don't rent movies either. We buy them and yes we do watch them over and over. Just like we do with music. We buy them and play them over and over.

I have one movie that I have watched about 400 times in 2 yrs. Alot you say? Yes it is but I like the musical. It is 1776, the directors cut. I also have a laptop that is setup only for windows 95 just so that I can play some of the older DOS games that we enjoy that for some reason I cannot get them to work on later windows but the oldest son can. But get me near it and it stops working. So the win 95 laptop was done for me. But don't think I stay with old technology cause I also play newer games and can't wait for GW2 to come out.

So something like what is being discussed with just renting what might be licensed at any given time is NOT for us. Not at any price, even 99 cents a month.

How about the KJ Media Pro, where you might not have all the songs but are able to get them as you need them and once you use them they are yours to keep? That is what I got out of Compuhost's video from the summit as they didn't talk about the cloud itself but integrating the content with the KJ media pro. It would be great if they created a stand alone program for unlocking the songs so that everyone that wanted to use it could without having to buy Compuhost.

Bless your heart! Most of us agree with you.

I predict that the Karaoke Cloud will probably be around $10 a month for home use. The "Pro" version for KJ's is another story, in which case I think it's going to be very expensive. I hope I'm wrong but I feel it will be out of reach for many KJ's, which will put many of them out of business and only increase piracy.

Update: 6/30 @ 6:23AM. As you can see from the poll, 71% will not use the Cloud. Of course this can change in time but I feel that the results are representitive of most KJ's.

As I've been saying, under the Cloud's present structure, it is doomed to fail. It will bring on more problems then it will solve. Most of us will not accept nor embrace it in it's proposed form. Others, will not accept it at ANY price. And you don't have to. There will always be other alternatives.

If the developers of the Cloud want it to be successful, follow Amazon's lead.

Interesting......71% say they won't use something that they don't understand and isn't even available yet.

Being part of that 71%, my reasoning for not wanting to use it has nothing to do with not understanding it. As I stated in other topic threads, I am a hobbyist KJ. I am ODB. I do 10 shows (if that many) in the year. It is not practical for me to start converting everything I have to HD, therefore, plain and simply put, paying a monthly Service Fee for the Cloud Service would not make any practical sense to me either.

Nice of you to speak for the majority, Chris. How do YOU know they don't understand? I think they understand all too well. This is a potential for disaster. It seems that YOU need to understand just what's going on here and the ramifications of using the Cloud. It seems that 71% of us do, unless you think we're all idiots.

I just thought of another downside to this Cloud.

Just what happens if things get going everyone that wants to be in the cloud is there and something happens like what happen to CB and the close it over night. HMMMM?

All those without discs will be up a creek with out a paddle!

Don't say it couldn't happen CB never thought that they would go Bye Bye either!

Excellent Point! And you're right about Chartbuster. It was a real shocker that no one expected would ever happen. But, it did!

Things used to be so simple:

Buy your discs, rip them to your laptop, use the hosting software of your choice, and put on your show. Plain and simple. Once you buy them, you own them. No worries about if they'll be there the next day.

And for those that think the Cloud is going to eliminate piracy, think again. Companies, businesses, websites get hacked every day. Even Sony was hacked and the hackers got everyone's Playstation live info. So, don't think you're safe with the Cloud. But if you want to compromise your privacy and security, go right ahead. Just too many negatives.

I'll stick with the way it is right now.

Hmmm.....perhaps this is CB's/Piracy Recovery's "GEM Series" equivalent: subscribe to the Cloud, or... DA DA DA DUUUUUUM !!!!

It is insulting to say that people who don't feel this particular proposal fits their needs just don't understand it. We understand that the fact that we can access Karaoke Scene any time from any computer means we are all living successfully with "The Cloud." Others are quite happy with the Amazon service. People don't seem to want subscription at the moment. There are other ways to deliver content digitally that they may embrace.

If I hit hard times and can't pay my monthly subscription then I am out of luck. If I own my tools then I can still keep working and just put off adding new songs until the next month. For some, ownership is security.

The subscription might work if it were cheap enough that it was used as an addition for temporarily accessing those songs that come and go but making it cheap enough for us may not make it viable for the suppliers. It's not the technology but this particular application of the technology. If something fills a need for people and is affordable, they will be all over it. If not, there's another great new idea that didn't make it.

I really believe that these people are part of the Cloud Development Team. Why else would they try so hard to sell this to everyone despite all of the negative feedback the Cloud has received. They have tried to justify every potential problem that has been raised about the Cloud technology. So, they're either fan-boys or on the Cloud payroll. Of course, that's just my guess. :D

Well, the speculation game can get out of hand. Chris A has made no secret of the fact that he works for Microsoft but he has also been very critical of the specific Digitrax proposal as it stands. Bazza says he is also in tec so he would be very comfortable with any new developments. People can live in different worlds and have different views of things. It doesn't necessarily mean conspiracy.

The length of the "cloud" related threads and the amount of mis-information in them gives me all the reason I need to believe that people don't fully understand it. Also, I don't think anyone is an idiot. People don't know what they don't know. The industries pushing cloud services have not done a good job of explaining how they work and what they are capable of to the general public.

I think this is because they choose to brand what they are doing with magical, mystical, cool, buzz words like "cloud" rather than calling it what it really is -- remote data/file storage and processing.
It's as if they do not want the average person to be able to understand it because understanding is reserved for the cool, smart people on the inside track. It's like that with any slang term and most marketing schemes.

Well, I will give you one piece of info on the Cloud, as per Harrington's comments from the other site. The introductory price is $99 a month. It then goes up to $199 a month. Anybody here willing to pay that much??

"By the way, it's not $99 a month. That's the introductory price, but the regular price is $199, and multi-rigging will require multiple non-discounted subscriptions."

If that is true, I suspect the poll to soar to 100% of non users. What a f&^^%$ joke.

I won't participate in the poll. I'm on the fence until everything is rolled out. Poll is premature IMO.

Lonnie, I think you missed my point.... How would I store my existing library in there as well, when I am ODB? Wouldn't I have to convert my Discs to some sort of computer file (MP3, CDG, BIN, etc...) first?

Question:
As far as acquiring the new music which the Cloud Service is supposed to be offering, does that mean I could access the Cloud Service from home, select the tracks I want, convert them to an MP3, CDG, and BIN File, and then burn it to a disc? If the answer is "Yes" to that, then it would just be a matter of pricing for the Cloud Service. Depending on what it would cost, it might still be cheaper for me to continue buying discs and custom downloads from the other sites.
