I love to do Longview by Green Day. Not overly bad but it drops an f bomb and talks about rubbing oneself. It's another song that I will need to know by my instinct whether its ok to sing or not. Depends on the venue, crowd, situation, etc, bla bla bla! And THAT's how I roll!

LL - can't see anything wrong with that song by Jason Aldean. 4 min. Would you be referring to Party Rock Anthem, LMFAO? 4.5 min But that one's ok to play too. No profane words on both.

Songs I will play but hate and try to discourage if possible.. Picture (most sane people are sick of this tune), Summer Nights (same as picture), Before he cheats (same as picture), Paradise by the dashboard light, Pretty much anything from Grease, Wannabe, Some Adele songs are quickly getting annoying (and seem to inspire sing offs between very drunk very delusional women). Anything over 7mins when there's a large rotation. Songs I have flat out refused.. whether it be due to length, language and appropriateness for the venue or a combination.. At a medium pace, F*** you (because I was pretty sure the person wasn't going to use forget), Closer, War Pigs, Bat out of hell, Stairway to heaven (One of the worst karaoke choices ever imo). Nicki Minaj - Stupid Hoe, Tyga - Rack City (not sure if either of these are out for karaoke yet but the will NEVER be played by me, original track included)

Two steal panther songs have just gone in and straight out of my book. A customer requested them and I've advised him he's more than welcome to sing them in a suitable venue (none of mine currently are) so already they are omitted from the exported song book.
My updated songbook also now omits 'little lion man' - because 60% of my customers ignored me when I said do not swear but substitute the word with fluffed or mucked.
I am very tempted to omit several songs (for profanity or sexual content) and have a separate page I can print out for certain venues - Problem with them on a separate page is people are more likely to gravitate towards them.... in the books they get lost so I'm still looking for a solution to that one.

Leave them in the book with an * next to the song title. In th efront of th ebook, on th erukes page perhaps, place an explanation of what he * stands for.
"Any song with an asterisk next to it will not be allowed to be sung at the KJ's discretion depending on the time of the night and the desires of the venue's ownership."

i like to do "at a medium pace - adam sandler" but only in the biker bars do i get a way with it.....
but i will belt out "big balls - ac/dc" anywhere....
and a fun one you can get away with anywhere is "wet dream - kip addotta" it's more suggestive then anything.....

I'll play anything. I'm not shallow enough to find mere words offensive.

That's assuming that the people READ the song books. Also, I could see some titles getting past the KJ (if the KJ isn't checking)... but that's on the KJ.

You really want to control your show and what people sing at it. You're kind of like a Karaoke dictator.

I use a code marked next to the title, much like the disc manu's use (Clean Version) or (Explicit) on listings, or labels if both are offered... I use a <xxx>, or <R-rated>, or <PG-rated code system, that shows up on computer, but not in book, or SEND (upcoming singers list)... that way I can censor requests from Genres that I may not be comfortable with, like Rap, Reggaeton, Hip Hop, etc. which I play, but very seldom listen to on purpose!

I put (Explicit) in our books but I have no doubt I've missed some as I haven't gone through every single song to see if any bad words are in them.

When someone hires us they are given a copy of the rules before which states." This show is run by Gemini Karaoke NOT this establishment". I inform them that some of our selections are PA..however those selections can only be done after 10 when the minors leave. They are paying for my show not theirs...if they want to control how a show is being done..they need to get there own cds then. I believe everyone has a right to express them selves and I wont hinder that LGBT...Im an openly gay man and I dont hide what I feel and I wont do that against anyone else..."IF YOU CANT HANDLE THE HEAT...... ok before someone goes on a rant about my policy....which if fine but again...everyone runs ther show differently..and that is their right just like its mine..

While I feel the same way about "my show", I also realize that the owner is a paying customer and as thus, has the right to say whether certain words are unacceptable or not. I personally ask any owner or any customer (private party) if any type of language is unacceptable. This usually takes care of any issue. I won't hesitate to shut a song down if I feel it's not going over well. While I don't tag my books or songs with "clean" and "explicit", I do with my DJ songs since nearly all hip hop have words nowadays with pop sometimes and rock as well. If I can only buy one version, I get the clean version.

Yep I run 'my' show, but also work 'with' the bar. We get a couple grumblers that can't sing certain songs, but they always come back. Been doing this at the same bar 20 years now - not my rule, it's theirs. Not going to tell them "it's my show, it will be run my way regardless of what you want" - i'd have been shown the door years ago with that mentality. They are the ones that pay YOU. You don't hire a service of any kind without giving some kind of specs and have them do it 'their' way instead regardless of what they (the payer) wants.

If I were a bar owner I would hire Lonnie in a heart-beat to do a show at my establishment.
Gemini and Biker Man would get shown the door just as quickly.
Some people are willing to say "TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT". However, MOST PEOPLE are willing to accept some supervision at their job.
An employee laying down the rules is a rare thing indeed. It boils down to supply and demand. As much as the New York Yankees wanted to sign Johnny Damon a few years ago; they weren't willing to abandon their rules about personal grooming to make it happen. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED????
Johnny Damon shaved his beard and cut his hair to get a nice paycheck. MONEY TALKS!

When a bar hires a band or theatre bring in a show...the establishment doesnt go tell what will and will not happen ..they are paying for the show the people put on...as far as getting shown the door..honestly that has not happened in the 10 yrs Ive been doing this...Bars/Clubs are an adult playground...if you want to go somewhere where there is no cussing..then find a church.. honestly the only difference is its over a mic...95% of the bars I have been into have customers the swear every other word...then if thats the case you better tell customers to watch their mouth..its ok for them and not me...WRONG!!! THE POINT IS IF YOU WANT TO CONTROL THE SHOW TELL THE DJ UP FRONT.....AS A DJ I WOULD NOT WORK FOR ANYONE THAT TRYS TO BAN SONGS OR CONTROL MY SHOW..IT WONT HAPPEN ...oopppsss.anyway..we will have to disagree to disagree
