you only have to wory if you buy them from Karaoke Channel directly. their TOU is for home use only, but the Select-A-Track TOU states "Licensing & Usage
All the tracks we supply are fully-endorsed by the manufacturer and are sold with their permission to use at home or commercially in any public venue worldwide (assuming that venue has the appropriate public performance license)."
buy your karaoke channel tracks there.

Would you really trust that?? I wouldn't trust anything owned by a Slep. Just because you bought them from Select-a-track, they are still KC. They are still a SC derivative. I'm sure they could say the same rules apply, and sue you anyway.

I don't believe the Sleps are any longer affiliated with the Karaoke Channel tracks nor Stingray. If I remember correctly, Derek was a consultant only when they (SC) sold them the library to them but is no longer affiliated other than they relicense the tracks for SC releases from KC.

Karaoke-Locker.com (part of PCDJ/PCKJ) also states that their music is ok for pro kj's for club use - and they use Karaoke Channel tracks almost exclusively.

Then that would be good news.

Sc has nothing to do with stingray except sc licenses it's music tracks from stingray.
Slep does not own the karaoke channel trademark either, nothing to sue for. Can't sure me for tracks you don't own and trademarks you don't own.
Dint you also think that if there was a problem, it would have been corrected already? If I licensed tracks for sat to sell for home use only and their tou said people could use them for commercial use, I would have them change it or not license them....wouldn't you? I am using the tracks within the tou of the store I purchased them from, if that violates the manus tou, that is where the blame lies. If THEY lied to me you expect ME to be the one to worry? Is there anything in this industry that is not the fault of the kj?

Not according to some people. Some seem to think the KJ should be responsible for every aspect of the business because the KJ is the end user. But, Hell, if that is the case, and Stingray tracks are legal for commercial use, there is the way to use SC tracks without using SC logs!! I will GLADLY use them, then. SC quality without the hassle, and only buying what you need, when you need it? Hell yeah!!

You may wish to double check your info as to SC/ KC Paradigm, not current info that you have.

As far as the TOS goes as a business it is your responsibility to educate yourself. KC does explicitly state HOME USE ONLY...ignorance is not a defense in a civil suit and it can be shown that the info was posted repeatedly. Yes you can turn around and sue the site that is giving you false info after you are harmed....if they are still in business that is. Not worth the chance to me personally but you are free to risk as much as you want of your business

I wonder what will happen when the sleeping PRS dragon is awoken? Last time overseas imports were banned for resale....wonder how much fire they will breathe if they are woken again???????

I have to question those 'pro' kj software like PCDJ & Aria that utilize Karaoke Locker for their music & state for pro use - that use KC tracks as their base (direct downloads from their software). Even SC endorses PCDJ knowing Karaoke Locker (using KC tracks) is their download supplier for pro kj's on their home page.

This is part of Karaoke Locker's ToS:

11. Usage Rules

You acknowledge and agree to use the Service, including the Products available through the Service, in compliance with the applicable Usage Rules:

a. You agree to use the Service and the Products available through the Service for personal, non-commercial use only;

So then that is kind of misleading. As the software offers the download service - knowing kj's are going to be primarily using it.

It's like Karafun. You can use it in public as long as you provide the music, but you can't use their music in public.

but you are the kj so it is your issue to figure out who is being hinest and who is lying. the manus and distributors have no responsibility in this at all. welcome to post SC lawsuit karaoke.

The lawsuits, if anything, are bringing an awareness about the legal issues and more and more hosts are expressing the frustration of not really knowing who to believe as far as what is legal. The entire industry seems in need of a clean up.

Sometimes it seems we all think we can decide what the law is or if we have to follow it by popular concensus. But the pressures brought on by too much bending may backfire and result in even more clamping down on what we can and can't do. But at least maybe the "rules" will be clarified.
