We keep them as I said in jewel cases and they are in drawers in wooden cabinets. Put the handcart underneath, tilt and walk them in or out.

The bottom pic looks like the corner of a country hardware store.

Stored mine in cd binders. Reminds me of an old years & years ago forum discussion about binders vs. cd jewel cases & that the reason why I’m getting cd pinholes were because of some chemicals from the binders that doesn’t agree with the cd’s. Yes, I know sounds like a bunch of bs. I don’t know how true this was at the time but lately I’m beginning to think it might very well be true as I am noticing some, not all, the over 15 yr old cd’s are now having pinholes too. It could be a matter of low qual cds used for bulk production to save manus $$. No holes on 15 yr less cd’s (yet).

I think I'll buy those shoe boxes like Mrmarog to save them from more degradation, or buy a tarp & follow earthling’s cd’s way of safekeeping; just kidding

I have seen discs stored in binders where the binders were stacked flat on top of each other *or* something else was stacked on top of the flat binder. if left this way for some extended period of time, I have seen the silkscreening stick to the vinyl "sleeve" portion of the binder. So I put my discs in the wooden storage cases with a little breathing room and I make sure the binders are stacked on end.

My goal is to move complete disc sets to binders, and odd balls leave in the wooden cases. But I am having to balance all of this against multiple rigs.

I used to store my Cd's in binders (see photo), but that proved to be damaging when stored for many years without having been removed (see other photo). Those are just a few of several hundred that are pin holed. The shoe boxes work very well with cd's standing on edge (how do they transport plate glass?). The sleeves like Chris' are good, but they can still stick to paper or plastic. When you purchase a spindle of new Cd's they come stacked tight don't they, and they are on top of each other? The absolute best way is in a jewel case.....if you have the room, or the jewel case.

PS. Chris, I just read your post, and I would not suggest binders. I had mine laying flat for years, now they are on edge as in photo.

the hanging sleeves we use have never been a problem for us....the binder pages however have caused some problems especially if they got hot (or were not kept in a climate controlled environment here in Florida, humidity is also a big problem) we have arrived to purchase collections of used CDG's on a number of occasions and found label side damage on over half the discs that were stored in binders in(non Climate controlled) storage units and garages....kinda breaks your heart.

I would NEVER store discs in a garage down here. Hell NO!! I am trying to figure out where in my house I can store all my other equipment because I don't want THAT out in the garage, either. Stands are one thing, but not electronics.

Wow, mrmarog, your damaged cd photos looks exactly like some of my cds. I also have some cd’s not removed a long time & it won’t come out because the cds & the sleeve cloth are like glued together. I really have to do something about this to eliminate further damage.

ok, maybe using a different browser will make this work..

Anyway I store half my discs in a road case and half in binders. But after reading some of the horror stories and seeing the pictures, I'm wondering if I should invest in another road case.

I have a photo but I have no idea how to make it smaller so that I can upload it here.

I store mine in the aluminum case with the hanging files as well. I have been storeing audio & cdg discs this way for well over 6 years with no problems. The last bulk cdg purchase I made were in book binders. Some of the discs were damaged and sticking to the plastic. At the time I was not sure if it was the sleeves or because the books were not well cared for and sticky. Of course the seller had to discount the discs further because of the damage. I have removed all my disc from books even my Foundations & Brick collections.

After a few decades storing in binders, a tip:

Thin felt squares in the vinyl sleeves. I all this time I have NEVER had a problem because of this.

Yes, it takes a moment to cut the square, but the storage space saved is immense, and SAFE.

Used this for years, and they are still working for me. http://www.unikeep.com/storage/dj-expre ... wpaks.html

Always got rid of the jewel case. Breaks to easily, takes up too much space, and I disagree that they are the only case that won't damage the disc. Ever slipped and caught the disc on the little plastic hub? I think the vinyl sleeves with the soft pad that wipes the disc (somewhat) when you remove it or return it to the sleeve are best.

Once we went to this system, most discs stayed pretty pristine.

If the disc comes in a vinyl or paper sleeve, that's what I want. Otherwise, I move it out of the original case into a vinyl sleeve.

I'm actually putting a new collection together. And while reading thru all your posts here and on other sites. I found a nice storage box on eBay for 56.00 delivered. Holds 1000 disc. Hard case and reinforced sides. Also have started to put the Maxwell disc shields on all my disc. As this will protect the information side of the disc. Which I hope will stop any damage during handling or storage. All the hanger systems look be the best setup. As you add a new disc it can slide right into its respective numbered slot. And allows me to not renumber any discs. Just add a new page to my book. And on my way.

I've never had a damaged disc pulling from a jewel case, I have had several damaged discs in the past from sleeves, one little foreign piece gets in there & will scratch the disc every time.

Have a link to the box?
Do you just add a number or do you also add a manu code to let people know what they are singing from?
