I still believe they did not mean in that manner that the machines themselves were illegal, just illegal being sold with SC content on them like from ebay. However it most likely is too late for SC to reword it as the damage has been done according to cavs.

This software is VERY different from anything on the marketplace. When you select a certain image, the program stores the commands necessary to create this image in memory. Then, it scours the program, looking for this sequence of commands and deletes it. Trust me, this is very different in that it "searches", "deletes", and handles an entire library at one time.

No other software does this ALL of this. For $69 (less than half of an audit fee), you can wipe out all of the logos from your entire library. For $69, you can essentially legalize a pirated library as well.

Ha ha Sound Choice.

What do you mean "change the sweeps on all files"?

Remove them and add your own. That is also what would be needed to be done.

No, I don't think going as far as changing the swipes would be neccesary. SC doesn't own the lyrics, so I would think that that might be going to far.

As mentioned, I was working on this very same program. One of the features that mine was (or will) have is the ability to turn CDG karaoke into midi.

Here's how:

Each letter (from each manufacturer) programatically represents a variable. If (your input) is "E", then the program will call a subroutine (in VB) and draw an "E" - this is instead of you writing each and every command to design and implement each and every "E".

Well, just like the CAVS software, my program would recognize the methods used to create each and every letter. When the program deciphers a letter, it saves it in an array and moves on to the next letter. Letters are defined by a smaller bitmap in which the background color surrounds it, unbroken.

In addition to deciphering the letters, it also tracks the timing of the scroll (swipe) commands and adds them automatically to the lyrics and stores them in the ID3 tag. And there you have it - CDG karaoke switched to MIDI.

They don't own the lyrics, but they DO own the swipes as in the look, coloration, font, and timing. That is the trade dress that everyone talks about. You would have to change EVERYTHING but the actual music. The logos, titles, ending credits, and swipes would ALL have to go. You would basically be rewriting the entire .cdg file.

No, you would only change the background color and the swipe color and possibly the font color. But, that is SO easy to do. If CAVS hasn't already done so with this program, perhaps they could come up with a quick fix...

If the background color is x, mask with y
If the scroll color is q, mask with r
If the font color is t, mask with u

Seriously, this would take them 15 minutes to implement.

Ok. And now Harrington should be coming in to tell us how much trouble one could get into by doing this. So.......the inspector walks into the venue, scopes out the host, scopes out the video monitor, sees your newly reconfigured sweeps and no logos, goes back to Harrington to report what he found, and then what?? What HAS he found??

i do NOT agree with using it to "legitimize" a stolen library, but to change the look of just some tracks could be fun.

He's found nothing. Anyone can make CDG files. There's software out there that all you have to do is put in the lyrics, then the timing information (as you go)... Anyone can use it.

I'd love to see that complaint in court - "On XX Date, A private investigator visited Joe Blow's Saloon". There, BJ the KJ was running karaoke. The Plaintiff alleges that the defendant had pirated karaoke in that it had no logos, and the trade dress looked nothing like the plaintiff's. Therefore, we pray that this court orders the Defendant to purchase Plaintiff's Gem Series and pay Plaintiff's attorney fees".

Unbelievable, the lengths some people would go to try and save $150, oops $81 by doctoring up IP files. I know I have a lot better things to do.

I guarantee he will tell you otherwise.

Timberlea...........nobody here has said they are going to do this, and if they did, I missed it.

The difference is that it sounds like a very quick process, not time consuming at all, and the program would pay for itself in no time. And I, for one, will never give SC another DIME of my money until they either drop this guilty until proven innocent, nonsense, or they come up with a better delivery system for their music, be it fighting the publishers for the rights to offer downloads, or becoming part of the KJMPHD system. If they go the route of PHM and others, who just allow media shifting, then I will be happy to give them my money. Until one of those situations comes to pass, they won't have me as a customer, and I refuse to participate in their audit.
