For 30-ish years as a wedding & corporate mobile DJ, I stood nearly all the time... About the only exceptions were during the obligatory, and often long & boring speeches.

Now that I'm mostly KJ-ing, not to mention getting rather "long in the tooth", I allow myself the luxury of sitting on a high stool perhaps 20% of the time.

I use a 6' folding table with a home-built 14" high facade and sparkely black fabric that reaches to the floor. So, even when I'm on the stool, a person would have to look closely to know that I'm sitting.

It's a good thing we don't actually GET long in the tooth as we age. Could you imagine your teeth getting longer and longer as you got older?? You could tell age by tooth size. "Damn, he's old. Look how long in the tooth he is. He's got to be 95, cause his teeth are a foot long."

I say this emphatically. Not just my opinion, but those of the patrons. From what I hear, Standing/dancing/mingling adds energy to a show, and sitting- especially behind a facade or in a boothe that gives the illusion of inaccessibility sucks the energy out of it.

Yup, I stand/dance/mingle......

The ONLY reason I sat thru the majority of my shows is because I was physically unable to.

If i had been able to go thru an entire show standing, then I would have.

We used to go to a show where the host not only sat but he was hidden around a corner and you would just hear his voice and see his head peak out every now and then--except when he was singing a couple songs each round. But then his show only lasted 16 years.

....I've never sat at any show. I only stand, after pulling myself up from my lounge chair/coffee table set-up to excuse myself for a Bladder-Break. If I have to sing, I usually do it while sprawled out on the chair, feels more comfortable to sing that way. However, if the gig is kicking, I might get up, grab a hold of my portable dance pole and do my thang.... you should try it. I find the tip jar gets more attention!

....Seriously though, I don't recall ever sitting down for a show (in 15 years). I enjoy the "Meet N' Greet/Mix N' Mingle." I'm usually the Nutty One in the crowd or so I'm told? Just tryin' to loosen' 'em up, get 'em singing and dancin'. If nothing else, I hope they're having a good enough time to want to come back with friends. Just a matter of choice I suppose.

Sorry, but I disagree. At my shows, I try to make my rack as far off to the side of the stage as possible. I want the spotlight on my singers and not on me. So while a singer is singing, I'm not even visible other than to the singer. Due to my high arches I don't do very well standing in one spot very long. I will spend about 20% of my time on my seat which is a DJ chair and when I sit on it, my height is about the same. To steal your line Joe, not just my opinion but I've never heard anyone say anything bad about me taking a break in my chair. Everyone knows the path to me, no matter what my set up is, that path is important to me, and important that it doesn't take away from the singer on the stage although that can be challenging at times. If you ask the patrons at my show, it is high energy so a KJ can sit and still have a good show.
