Hi all,
I have the Karafun program that I use for practicing at home. However, my pastor wanted it on his laptop. So, I loaded it to his laptop and ran it. It worked fine. But after turning the program off and restarting it, I discovered that it would not start up.
I've tried reinstalling the program but, again, it only works once then won't go go anymore. It works fine on my computer. I just don't know why it won't work on the laptop.
Any suggestions as to how I can make it work without having to reinstall every time I want to use it?

I would hazard a wild guess ( I'm definitely not a software expert) that the problem may be some sort of copyright protection.
When it was downloaded to your PC there may have been some sort of registration process. When it was copied to your Pastor's PC, this process may not have been initiated. It may be that the first use is avilable so that the software can be registered?
Please note- this is all guesswork on my part....

I believe it's due to the fact that his laptop has Windows 7 on it and is not compatible with the current versions of Karafun.
It does the same thing when when I download directly from the site, so it's not a problem with the copy I put in the system.
I've heard nothing but complaints about Windows 7 and I guess this is just one more complaint. Will have to wait until Karafun comes up with a version for Windows 7.
Thank you all for your input and suggestions.

Thank you all for your input and suggestions. The latest version is fully compatible with Windows 7 and you're the first I see complaining about Win 7 I've been using Win 7 for about a year now and I would NEVER consider going back to XP Have you done all your updates from your computer manu & Microsoft?

To be perfectly clear - Applications are written to run on operating systems, not the other way around. So saying that "...his laptop has Windows 7 on it and is not compatible with the current versions of Karafun." is not accurate.
It appears the current version of KaraFun was written to work on Windows 7 but you may wish to try running it in Compatability Mode:
Locate the shortcut or executable for the KaraFun application Right Click the KaraFun Icon --> Properties Select the Compatibility tab Check the box for "Run this program in compatability mode for:" Then select the operating system for which KaraFun was written. (XP Service Pack 3 is a safe bet) Click OK Launch KaraFun and see if it works.

Dear Chrisavis and everyone,
I have a similar problem. I have been using Karafun without problem, but since I installed win 7, Karafun plays only the audio part of the files and the display is pitch dark. I tried all compatibility settings as Chrisavis kindly explained, but it didnt help.
Please give me an advice so that I don't have to install XP again.
Thank you in advance
Agoston

Agoston That's really strange, I have Karafun installed on multiple computers running on Win 7 and have no issues reading the graphic Did you upgrade from Win XP? and if yes, have you done all your hardware & Windows updates? A clean Win 7 installation shouldn't have a problem running a fresh installation of Karafun

It's sluggish to start on my desktop, which is a Vista computer, and my show computer which is a Windows 7. Now the funny thing is that Karafun works great on my old Compaq laptop, which runs Vista, and only has a 1.8ghz processor. MY biggest problem with Karafun is that it has no search function. You CAN search through explorer as long as Karafun is your default program for cdg files. Just so you know, and you can look online and verify this, Karafun IS legal to use in shows AS LONG AS you provide the music. If you use their music it is ONLY for home use.

I have heard others mention this as well and I also was disappointed that there was no search capabilities...until I found this little gem of a program - Everything Search http://www.voidtools.com/You can set up paramiters to direct the search to a specific folder or for specific file types, include or exclude folders, etc. It is blazing fast and is hot key capable. Search for a song, drag & drop 2-3 seconds, press play. Works great with Virtual DJ too.

If you are using Windows Vista or later, you can configure Windows to index specific directories and use Windows built-in search to accomplish the same thing. It too is lightning fast and allows drag and drop from the search results to whatever application. The advantage to this method is that you are not adding any additional software so no need to worry about application compatibility issues or updating additional software.

Is there anything in the help files that tell you how to index a specific directory?

Right click on the folder select Properties Select the advanced button in the Attributes area Check the allow files in the folder to be indexed in addition to the file properties It's probably already checked. The new windows search is pretty much a set it and forget it type thing. If the tracks have metadata, you can optimize the folder for music. Then things like artise, title and album are availible to you Right click the folder select Properties Select the customize tab Select music from the optimize this folder for pull-down.
I think that's what you are looking for but I don't think windws will search on the metadata.
