If Chartbuster was able to accomplish this feat (and I have no reason to believe otherwise) then I take my hat off to them. I can tell you that we don't have the administrative or financial resources to accomplish such a task

The "songs" on a virgin KJMP drive weren't songs exactly. They were altered/encrypted files and unplayable. Only after purchasing one was the song unlocked, unencrypted and copied to your working directory as a playable MP3+G. I am guessing that the line they took was that the songs weren't technically even there until unlocked, so they were not licensed until purchased.

If what you say is correct, then it would indicate to me that the licensing would then be the responsibility of Compuhost. However if the start-up screens still display Chartbuster as being the label then that could be somewhat of a problem. Anyway like I said I don't want to speculate too much at this point until I've had an opportunity to review and understand the nuts and bolts of the concept.

As for Debbie, my apologies I thought everyone in the karaoke industry had contact with everyone else, altho there certainly wouldn't be a reason to.

Regardless, I had always thought the licensing came from Invicion/Compuhost. That is the only way I could see it as being feasible.

However I'm sure they will be able to give you more details than I could.

If you were the one that had to re-license everything, then yes I can understand how that would be totally unfeasible.

As for the other system, it sounds interesting. Whatever you end up deciding to do, I wish you all the best

There are darn few karaoke produces left in North America.. we need to support them in every way we can as hosts, so that we can continue to have a source of new music.

In my opinion, the laws need to be changed to reflect a fairer system, like the one they have in the UK but that takes money and political cloud, which no one in the karaoke industry really has

I do know Debi Stoval but did not make the connection with Greg and Debbie. Also, I thought that the authors of Compuhost was a company called karaokeware based out of Florida. I thought the gentleman's last name was Hughes. I didn't think there was a connection between Chartbuster and Compuhost.

The CB logo IS on them, which is in part why they have been brought into question. The Digitrax versions have been redone entirely, with different fonts, back screens, logo (actually, the lack of logos), and even different method of "sweeps" (each screen fades with next screen popping up milliseconds before the words are needed--would take the average karaoke singer a bit of time to get used to, but still nice).

If someone has the original working files that made the Chartbuster tracks to begin with; that person can change the fonts, colors, and swipes in a matter of seconds. Same thing with removing any logos that were on the original tracks. I wonder if the people that are filing the law suits against Chartbuster will file a law suit against digitrax for "trade dress" violations? LOL Some one who was "familiar" with the way Chartbuster made their tracks might see some similarities between the Digitrax product and the Chartbuster product. Then CAVS may just have to file some law suits against Digitrax to get their fair share of the profits. I wonder if the person that is "doctoring up" th eold CB tracks is willing to go to jail for creating counterfeit Chartbuster tracks under a different name? I would think at this point, that CAVS would be the legal owners of the CB library. I'm sure that they will be keeping a very close eye on this situation. They'll probably let them make a killing for a while and then swoop in for their HUIGE piece of the pie. I can't wait to read about it.

Brucefan4life, what make you think CAVS owns the CB product line? I think CAVS received a judgment but can find nothing that states the line was transferred to them....It is my understanding that in order for CAVS to have had any claim to the CB tracks they would have had to been transferred either by the principles or by the courts. Did I miss something in the court records ?

From what I can gather; Chartbuster went out of business rather than pay the judgement that was awarded to CAVS. If their only asset was their song catalogue; I would think that it won't be too long before that catalogue will be part of the settlemat of the judgement. Like I said; CAVS is probably keeping a very close eye on this whole digitrax thing.

in order for the judgement to include the catalog CAVS would have had to go tru a legal process to have it "attached"...since that was NOT done and CB sold the catalog to Digitrax there is nothing except maybe any remaining proceeds of the sale to attach. This is a basic legal principle.

I have had personal experience with having a judgment and having to go tru the legal process to attach assets so I may be a bit more informed than most

I could see a scenario where a "sale" (put in quotes for this situation since the circumstances could be perceived as questionable) might be forcibly reversed if the circumstances allow for it...

If the proper legal steps had been filed by CAVS they might have had a point to question...however they "CAVS" never even asked for the process to start....maybe "CAVS" had questionable legal advise ? or maybe they felt following the process quickly would not be needed as CB had paid off all other judgments. To My understanding CAVS would have had to start the process to attach of the library before CB sold it to Digitrax.....as long as CB can show that ALL creditors (including CAVS)received equitable portions of the proceeds from the sale there is nothing questionable about the process(even if the distribution is literally pennies on the judgment.........Anyone with a judgment would be in the same boat so to speak. Again basic business law

What does all this talk about CB and CAVS have to do with Stellar Music (Tom) being on board here at K-Scene?

Can we get a Moderator in here to split this topic thread?

Are you talking about recently (in the past 10-12 months), or are you talking over the course of several years?

Both but when you call and tell them they just blow you off...I think when people quite buying their stuff then they might listen...they just need to do a better job of putting out chart hits

I'm not sure as to what you mean when you say that when you call we "just blow you off". Could you be more specific? I agree that we do need to improve our song selections, and I think I've already addressed that here in previous postings, but poor or rude customer service as you imply is totally unacceptable. I will address this with our staff if I can share with them a particular case in point.

I am sorry for assisting in the hijack of the thread Cueball was correct my reply had nothing to do with the thread in question I should have thought more before I posted to rebut the incorrect assumption.

I have ask to talk to the Manger or/owner and they blow it off...not here...busy..ect. you need to get someone else to select your songs. May be one song out of the three disc you guys put out gets done and that not worth $50+ IMO ...I love you stuff in general...good swipe..and sound but the song selection needs alot of help..you need to keep up with the Billboard Charts..that is the stuff people are requesting at my show

I think Tom V wants you to elaborate further as to specifics regarding the “just blow you off” incident. What actually transpired on what day/date & what time so he can address it to his staff to improve customer relations. He already got the part about improving their song selections. :)

I’m on their cd yearly subs for 3 yrs, always find the staff courteous & generous with their time in my phone conversations with them. I do agree with your assessment about song selections & glad to hear his acknowledgment for future improvement. :biggrinthumb:

I do understand there are some songs they wont give you permission for but when other companies are getting permission...ALL STAR KARAOKE..ect..then it makes me wonder whats going on...I want to buy..Pop Hits Monthly stuff..but if the song selection doesnt improve I would rather go to select a track and get the songs I want..to be fair I will see what is being put out for the next few months..then i will decide ..honestly I dont want to quite buying PHM stuff but I will if the song selection doesnt improve...like we in retail say customers have options..if you dont give them what they want..they will go elsewhere
