Hello All,

Im new to this forum. :)

I currently perform and do gigs as a duet, however i am looking to do karaoke in local pubs i have pa system, mixer, speakes, mics etc and laptop all of which is currently used in my gigs and i am now looking at how to use all this to build karaoke and what extras i may need.

Ok so i know i am going to need screen for people to read words off etc, but my main problem is what Karaoke Software to use? Are there any you can use for free? and do they include the lyrics running across full screen for people to read and sing along too?

Also, how to go about building my karaoke libary i dont want discs, i want to run everything through my laptop. So do i need to pay for every single track i download? Or is there a place i can download karoke tracks for free?

I know ive asked alot of information, but i am very interested in karaoke and love to sign so this is a new project.

Please note i am OK with computers but i am looking for simple Softwares and easy websites to use..

thank you for reading this and hopefully helping me on way to setting up my own Karaoke Business :) :) :) :) :)

Vikki

When it comes to software - check out the sticky at the top of the discussion forums. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22248

As for purchasing tracks, converting original discs seems to be the cheapest option at the moment (since sets can be brought second hand at very reasonable rates), some people would advocate buying songs as you need them via a legal download site such as karaoke-version.com and selectatrack.com, but I personally would say hold on for a while and see what directing the industry takes before any investment.

I use Karma myself, but Latshaw also makes some other great products too...

http://www.latshawsystems.com/Products.aspx

If you're looking for songs, check out http://www.iCroons.com . You can search some of the top download sites all at once. Keep an eye on the brands. Zoom, Sunfly and Mr. Entertainer are all good. Karaoke-version has some good tracks too. iCroons listings all take you to the song on the different purchase sites and you can listen to them before buying. I highly recommend doing this with a good pair of headphones on or through a good pair of speakers. If you've got a good ear, picking the best version of a track is key to separating yourself from the average KJ.

For example, if you're looking for good classic rock songs, go to iCroons, type in SR and click the D search button and you'll get a listing of about 500 karaoke channel tracks that are all basically rebranded sound choice tracks of real quality stuff. If you've got the money, I'd recommend just going to SoundChoice.com and ordering their diamond series discs as your base set. These are MP3+G discs and you can just copy the songs to your hard drive so you don't need a special drive for ripping CDG discs. Unfortunately, you need to buy the whole package as they don't sell the discs individually, but it's a good base collection to start with if you have the money.

Please refer to the sticky for software discussions.

Pages and pages of "I like this" and "He likes that".

Karma all the way for me too. Very simple, infinitely customizeable in layout and color, and everything is right in front of you. $99!

I believe Sound Choice is having a summer sale at the moment. Since you can only get the Gem series from them you may want to give them a call.
