YOU cant fight city hall and YOU cant save the Titanic! The owner has stopped caring about Karaoke and your show and has run off all YOUR clientele. Time to FIND ANOTHER GIG. YOU CANNOT SAVE HIS BUSINESS FOR HIM. So quit trying to be a MARYTR and STRESSING YOURSELF OUT AND BEING MISERABLE about it. You've done all you can and one person CANNOT save this sinking ship. And on top of it you are now up against the INERTIA of a business that is sliding away and failing. Time to leave ON YOUR TERMS and dont wait for him to summararily dispatch with you, your show and Karoake.

We had the smoking ban in NY, and the bars slowed down for a little while, but got right back up after a couple of months. People weren't about to stay home forever. They actually got more business because more people could enjoy them. I wish they would ban smoking in bars here in Florida. I quit smoking on May 3, 2006, and have never looked back. I find cigarette smoke quite offensive, now.

them staying outside is a big problem here too. most bars have put in misters and swamp coolers outside with lots of fans so i am spending half my time running outside to get my singers. PITA.

They shouldn't offer a "smoking area". That encourages people to drink outside. In NY, most of the places didn't have an area like that, so people would have to smoke, then come back in to drink.

I can see the bar's perspective. They have business through the day and they have people that would actually prefer to sit out there. It has a roof\really high fense and have heaters out there when its colder. They gain other business by having the patio and in the end, thats what it's about.

But as I said, I'm done with chasing down singers outside. For one thing, it isn't fair to those inside who are listening and applauding the other singers. Someone runs in from outside, sings a song then runs back out? Something just doesn't sit right with me on that. So if they aren't inside where I can find them when they are up next, i notify the next singer they are up next. If they come running in I just tell them sorry, couldn't find you and I already lined up the next singer like I always do. I can move you to the bottom of the rotation but you gotta be here where I can find you. Some just decide to stay out there and that's fine with me. At least they are there and they are drinking.

Can always run an outside speaker & possible live video of the stage. May be a PITA but i've yet to see it done - at least around here. That way the people outside can still hear and see what's going on and hear when they are called up.

I brought up a karaoke screen and audio feed outside idea as a possible solution and the owner said, nahhh... I wasn't totally sold on it myself. One bad singer and the folks out there would be turning it off. It might be different if the video was of the stage. It's one thing to see a bad karaoke performance. I would think it is quite another to have to listen to it without seeing it.
