So, I'm such a sad karaoke nerd that I have a google news alert set to the word "karaoke." I guess they are filming around the North Carolina area now. Here's the article:

On the one hand, a show about karaoke and the culture that surrounds it could be interesting. On the other hand, this is also the station that airs "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo."

Wow running all over the country filming singers and hosts, that must be tough to get licensing for....going to all the different publishers, song writers, etc.

Now the Manu's don't even have to go to gigs to find pirates this show will do it for them

I think the novelty of a show like this will wear off very quickly...

It's tough to say. Basically, all reality shows of this type follow the same general principle--only the topics are changed. That said, the market will eventually have to wear out for cheaply produced drama factories, won't it?

My boyfriend and I always talk about how our karaoke experiences should be documented in a reality show. We have witnessed hookups, marriages, divorces, a very talented cross dressing Beyonce sound alike, "I know I'm a Star" attitudes, people jealous of the KJ host because he can...wait for it....actually sing, and Bi-polar personalities. Our weekly gigs are in the "hood" of Newark, NJ.

We also experience alot of drama when we visit other karaoke spots in other states. We went to a karaoke bar in LA. My boyfriend performed "Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong and we did "Poison" by Bell-Biv-Devoe. The crowd loved it. We came back the next night and was greeted by the bartenders by name and the owner was extremely nice. Right when we sat down, the KJ Host had a guy come up and perform "Wonderful World". Then when my boyfriend went up to put in "Poison", the KJ Host said he was doing the song and started singing the song with someone else. We was like "WOW" it's time to go. It was hilarious because he was acting like we was trying to take his job.

Hey I happen to like Honey Boo Boo.. as long as you watch it with the premise that it is completely mindless drivel, it's definately good for a couple of laughs. Those people are frickin' insane.

I would also watch a show about karaoke, especially if they had Athena's venue.. I would absolutely LOVE to watch someone trying to sing a song while standing on their head. 8)

There was actually a documentary produced awhile back called Karaoke Knights. It was filmed at a local place that I frequented, and followed several mature male karaoke singers who happened to be friends and acquaintances of mine.

It was probably ahead of it's time back then, and never had much critical success, despite WAY better production than the crappy reality shows that one finds today.

Maybe it's all in the timing. As posted above, the U.S. is currently enamored with badly made "reality" shows, so it may end up a winner- for awhile....

I vaguely remember hearing something about that title, but I thought it was a book.

I'm hoping for a karaoke-themed episode of Bar Rescue. That would be interesting.
