The scenerio: You have a certain song by SEVERAL manus, such as Chartbuster, DK, and maybe a SGB. Regular comes in, ONLY sings SC. Hates CB, DK, SGB, Zoom, and whatever else offered. "I can't sing this", no matter what version you offer, even offer to change key, tempo, to no avail. OF COURSE, the songs this person sings are the RARE hits, which no one else sings, MOST have never heard. Problem gets bigger, regular brings friends with like way of thinking. They may be TERRIBLE singers, BUT they're divas. I've looked for some of their songs, and wouldn't you know it, they're only on SC Foundation 2. Would YOU buy it, or keep offering the multiple versions you have, or what would YOU do? What I did was hooked up my player, and have them bring THEIR discs. Of course ONE of them wants to use a flash drive, which I refused to use. What do you think????

Which song? Custom disc? I have used a flash drive in the past with no issues, however I do have to know the customer as a regular. But if they are good customers, i'll try to pick up any version they ask for - if it's a dup of something I already have, then they need to be a very good customer. Sometimes I will try to compare my version to the one they ask for and if it's better, I may pick it up anyway.

I won't play from USB. I don't see myself changing this policy any time soon.
I always try to find the specific version for them. I weigh out the cost of finding it vs their satisfaction. I usually err on the side of their satisfaction.
All this said - I have never had anyone bring in a USB device in 2+ years. I have had a few folks bring in burns (which I also will not play) and a handful have brought in original discs. 90% of the time I have the exact track they want already. The others I commit to finding and have been reasonably successful in doing so.

If the customer is a GOOD regular, and will stick with you, have him/her pick 10 must have songs, and order a custom disc.
Does SC still do customs?

If they are going to become good customers I will buy their music of choice (within reason). But just to have them come in once or twice, complain and then move on...sorry.

foundation is a big investment for divas. weigh the whole package, they are divas, but do they drink or are they water and cottage cheese (dot know why but every diva i have ever had does water and cottage cheese), are they there week after week, and if they have their own disc. you said some do and you hooked up the player for it so in my opinion unless they are there every show and ringing up big tabs i could noy justify paying that kind of money to replace songs i already have several good versions of. i will play from a flash drive if i know the customer well and they have shown me the original disc first. have 3 like that and it makes it really easy.

I would continue to offer the versions I had and offer to play any original discs they wish to purchase themselves and bring into my show. ( I must admit I have in the past ordered a disc and split the cost with good (PURCHASING) regulars...the discs stay in the system).

But if they are rare, SC only tracks, they're out of luck. Ever have a diva bring in their own microphone? Or microphone stand?

I get the mic bringer on occasion. I'll let them use it. Mic stand i've never seen yet.

Actually, when I used to carry/bring my entire library with me (at that time, between 300-400 discs), I also had a Mic with me. I actually did request to have my Mic hooked up when it was my turn. This had nothing at all to do with being a Diva or not. I only did this a few times, and it was when I had a Cold.

Health reasons were usually what people told me as well & I don't blame them. If a kj hasn't cleaned their mics in a while, take them out into the sunlight, unscrew the ball & pull out the foam.

As far as I know, you can't get SC on custom discs. ANY other version is UNACCEPTABLE to these customers. BTW, they ARE (maybe) 2 drinks, and MAJOR popcorn eaters. Practically every song is up 1, or down 2, and even then, "this doesn't sound like it's in the right key" It's YOUR disc, all I did was put it in the player, and put it up or down how ever many steps you requested. It gets pretty nerve racking, when you have a 25 people rotation, and this singer says, "this doesn't sound right, just play the NEXT track instead". I mean, I believe in pleasing the customer, but, there is a point where you just want to say, "why don't you just stay in your basement, and listen to it on YOUR crappy system". Maybe that's why it doesn't sound RIGHT to you. Ok, rant over..... Srnitynow

unpleasable divas, let them go. they bring no revenue into the bar, and make your rotation hell. let some other KJ deal with them.

I loved doing karaoke shows BUT I could not handle the drama. I have nearly 6000 cd's (5000 different ones) just collecting dust because of the exact crap you are discussing. I will do shows again, but I will have to do it alone because my wife has had all she can take.
I have on several occasions in the past , let the PITA's know exactly how unhappy I am with their petty BS, and amazingly they will either straighten up or take their crap elsewhere. Many times they would take other PITAs with them as well. In the end it was a very possitive move, and when they left better customers returned.
Get tough and don't give in. This is YOUR SHOW.

srnitynow wrote: BTW, they ARE (maybe) 2 drinks, and MAJOR popcorn eaters. Well, there's your answer. They may be regulars, but they are NOT good customers. Explain that you already have several versions of the song, don't want another, and that singer is the ONLY one requesting a special version. Let them know that you will be happy to play any original disc that they care to bring in, and that's it.
