What about clubs like The Eagles, The Elks, Knights of Columbus, etc. These are non profit places that I doubt pay any "PRO" fees.

They are supposed to! They can get in just as much trouble if they don't.

That is a good deal. The same price per cut as their largest pack (75 cuts).

With the current selling method, I believe this as well.

Said it before, will say it again, rent the songs at a per single song price. One song on Friday equals $.30 Play that song again next Friday, it equals another $.30. Now I'm interested as my library has some holes in it and it may only cost me a couple bucks per show. And now the newbie pays about $78 per month if they have one show per week.

Why should I pay the same price for the service as a newbie? I have an established library already!

you do still have the download option........
instead of renting the song once for 30 cents, buy it for 2 dollars and have it forever.
i do agree that having the established kj pay as much as the newbie with nothing is a bit sideways.

...Please keep in mind, it was just a phone call but...

...Earlier today I received my first phone call from a Digitrax Rep. I must say, it was a very interesting phone conversation that lasted 1 hr. & 50 mins. I was somewhat surprised for the phone call since I've already purchased much of Chartbuster's Library but I just figured it was going to be a typical "hey, how are you doing?....By the way can we sell you a subscription to the cloud." But in reality, that would have taken a lot less time, right?

...I'll have to admit, the phone call caught me off guard at that moment and there's several other questions I would have enjoyed asking. However, since he was asking, I did bring up some of the topics/concerns that had been brought up here.

...One of those comments/concerns was not being able to see a manufacturer's coding for the track's instead of just Artist & Title. He said he would bring that up to the CEO since the file only shows artist & title.

...Another concern was, one month a track could be licensed (in your library) and the next month it might disappear due to lack of non-license renewal. Now from what he said (going off of my "short-term memory") they have an agreement that if it's on there now, it's on there Forever.

...He obviously understood, before calling me or any other KJ that had purchased a large number of Chartbuster Tracks and with a well established library, that I probably wouldn't want or need the cloud but I might be interested in their updates. Which he is correct and by the way, the new stuff is Digitrax and it's a HD Thang <<<(using my own preferred slang here). He definitely encouraged me to test it out with the free trial to see the quality difference between theirs and my ripped files. Ok, I'll bite, I don't mind trying.

...We obviously spent a lot more time talking about the good ole days of Karaoke, audits the way they are and the way they could be, inking tracks for public display (serial numbers), forming a new association for checks and balances (including the possibilities of charging yearly fees for venues hosting karaoke and for KJ Verification), plus newly designed software that could be developed to check your tracks vs. your online library to allow venues to confirm a KJ has a legal library and limiting the Venue's exposure to being named in a lawsuit but yet encouraging the venue to hire KJs that are legal (Verified through a newly organized Karaoke Association)! Of course the newly developed organization would give many perks to the Verified KJs and Venues for their dues but in return both would receive free advertising and other perks to make it worth their wild.

...Overall, it was just a phone conversation. Yes, it was about selling a subscription or updates. I feel Digitrax is trying to do the "right thing." Could they close their doors in the near future? Anything is possible. Are they trying to make it more convenient for home users and professionals? I would say so. Is it affordable? I would say to each his/her own (3 years @ $99.00 per month for professional Kjs)...you make the call. Am I sold on a subscription? Not with my current library but PERHAPS the downloadable updates in the future. Do I see my cdg library declining in value if the cloud becomes popular and appears to have a future? Yes, who's gonna want buy it if I decide to sell it, I mean how much do you think I could possibly get for it?

...Again, it was just a phone call and you could sum it up as hearsay.

I agree that the value of discs is going to continue to slide *IF* DigiTrax (or anyone else....and there will certainly be someone else at some point) comes up with some viable models.

I think we all agree that none of us with large libraries are going to dump them to sign up with the Pro service. I don't know enough about the updates to make and informed opinion, but so far I am happy with leveraging iCroons for search and then a handful of the providers he links to for requests I don't have.

I will give Greg a call next week to find out about the update service.

Vet old kj’s with huge library & they offer monthly new releases downloads with reasonable membership fee – I’ll be open & welcome the idea.

Is it affordable? You mention that it was brought up about not needing the Cloud Service, but possibly being interested in their updates, yet you didn't mention the cost? All you mentioned was the $99/month for 3 years. I mentioned the cost for the updates in an earlier post (in several topic threads). Purchasing 15 or 30 tracks in a month from them ($30 - $60), and then not needing any the next month, and then doing that again 2 or 3 months down the line, doesn't come anywhere close to $99/month. So, is it affordable?

...Cue, sorry for any confusion or my lack of explaining the price for downloading. I know the subscription to the Cloud was originally $199.00 per month for the use of their current tracks in their library to use any place, anytime, anywhere (The Cloud). As the months have passed, I'm sure some of us have seen them running a special, sign up for the service and for the first year it was going to be $99.00 per month.

...Now during my phone call he mentioned that I, or anyone else, could sign up and would be locked into a three year price of $99.00 per month. Again, that was for "The Monthly Cloud Subscription Service", access to their current library plus any future monthly updates that would be added to their library. All of the above was for "The Cloud Service."

...But he did mention that I might be interested in their monthly updates which is what you posted (that comes out to a $1.99 per track). I could be wrong but I don't believe this has anything to do with the $199.00 or $99.00 subscription price for "The Cloud Service." From my understanding, the downloads are completely different, you just purchase the individual downloads or monthly update downloads when you want, no obligation or monthly subscription fee for the downloads. Just the $1.99 per track/download. Similar to these other sites.

...Before this phone call, I just figured my updates would come from All-Star. But I should have asked him #1) Is there any monthly subscription fees for using the DT site for downloads? #2) Can I download any songs from DT's Library or is it just from each month's new releases? #3) Do I have to purchase all of the Monthly New Pop or New Country Releases and or both for the month or can I pick and choose from each Genre of that particular month? Am guessing it might be different from the old days when we had to purchase the entire monthly cdg (Pop or Country or Urban and or all).... no picking certain tracks off of the monthly updates unless you were given the option of a Custom CDG.

...I know he mentioned a package deal of 150 tracks for $300.00 but I don't know if those are a Pre-Picked Package by DT or if I can choose any 150 tracks from their existing library. It still comes to $1.99 per track but I don't recall any mention of a subscription fee for downloading.

...Sorry if this doesn't help much to answer your question but hope it does. I usually take notes while chatting with someone on the phone (not all conversations but ones that could or will affect me), just for my future references. But the downloading price per track averages $1.99. Just don't recall the exact details or rules. Here again, I would consider MY POSTING as HEARSAY at best and if anyone is interested in "The Cloud Service" or Downloads by DT, please call them!

...Overall, it was a very pleasant conversation. No pressure from the rep. No intimidation from the rep. No, "Hey, we're watching you!" Chartbusters quick departure left me scratching my head but I HOPE DT will prove to be helpful to the industry. Time will tell!

That is correct.... From my e-mail conversations with Tricia (posted in other topic threads), there is no subscription charge to use the Download Service for individual tracks and new monthly releases... just the $1.99/track charge. So, you have 2 options. Pay for a monthly subscription to have access to their entire library any time, or purchase individual downloaded tracks at a cost of $1.99/track (no subscription necessary). The reason I re-quoted your comment about it "being affordable," and "to each his own," is because others here will point out that there are cheaper downloads available elsewhere (such as All Star Karaoke). But, you get what you pay for, and All Star (just to use as a comparison for this scenario) is only as good as it's available selection (which is vastly less than that of DT (at least I think it is)).

Now, if they start to add "Branding" to their library search, I might consider purchasing downloads from them. But, until then, I am not interested. Also, (I believe) most of their current library consists of CB, and I never really cared for CB in the first place (so I would need to see what "Brand" choices were available for a specific track before I purchased a download from them).

...Cue, I hear ya! I just didn't want to post rumored info here (just me doing my blah, blah, blah routine). Looks like they'll be carrying several brands: DigiTrax, SBI, Sunfly, Mr. Entertainer, DK, Stage Stars. Seems strange to see the DK brand mixed in there.

I buy it in custom disc form so I have to wait for them to be mailed to me. I doubt All Star is going to stop selling to you if you buy the download though.

there is no "home use" or "commercial use" tracks. the license only covers "home use" until the venue pays the PRS fees then it is covered for commercial use.
all the tracks are good for commercial use PROVIDED the venue you are playing at is paying the required ASCAPO, SESAC and BMI fees.
