Unless they are truly going to do some enforcement to protect their rights I am going to suggest to venues to put together a system with
D.K. library
Doctor Music
All Hits
Music Maestro
Pioneer
Monster Hits
Nashville
And if Sound Choice does not join maybe the Gem Set
What a great library and you have it forever
Cloud service said in the latest post that hundreds of investigators were out there--I do not believe them.

Ok lets see here.

D.K. library
Many good tracks - but many more with off key & most have the pan flute melody line. Not desireable.

Doctor Music
Not the best renditions. Good for what they were when they were the only versions available - for those that remember back that far. But MOST of their tracks have been done quite well with other brands now days.

All Hits
Same as Dr Music.

I find very little useable content. I just bought the Elvis set only because people claim they are ok & for 400+ songs at $18 I thought i'd take the chance. Otherwise they are replaced the first chance I can if they are songs people want.

Pioneer
Great if you can actually find them since they;ve been out of business in the US for ovr 15 years.

If you are talking Nashville Sounds - been out fo business for over 15 years.

Best set mentioned here that is actually legally produced for pro kj's.

DK is the only brand specifically designed for the amateur singer. The melody line "Pan Flute" can only be heard if the singer is out of tune. it's there to help- and does. SOME-but not all- tracks are dropped a key. most singers find this a help. However, if not, that's why we have key change. In my opinion, one of the very best bands out there- and never a singer complaint in decades-EVER.

I'm getting the impression that you simply don't like any compilation producers, and think all are the same tracks. Do you think that DM and AH are also the same tracks? Anyway, in my opinion, DM is a decent brand, though short on releases.

Agreed, but still out there, as are most brands in the same boat.

Yup, you just don't like compilation producers. I'm not saying they are all good. But since most of these producers use many mfrs. tracks, they must be rated on a per track basis, not as a company. In my opinion, the majority of this company's tracks are decent. As a matter of fact, most are better than Stellar.

Please note how often I used the phrase "in my opinion" rather than speaking in absolutes, Lon. There is no "best", only most popular.

I would also add, for those who don't like compilation companies, that I think All Hits, Radio Starz, SuperCore, Monster Hits and others ALL do a generally better job than Stellar. I am only saying this as a comparison to a "name brand", not to beat up on Stellar, with whom I have no issues.

Stellar produces generic quality karaoke (in my opinion, of course
). Singable, but that's it. So if one is a "Monthly" fan, one might consider the producers mentioned. These also usually have way more useable tracks per disc.

I meant Dr Music is in the same league as All Hits. They were good, but now many manus have released better quality versions.
All Hits, Sweet Georgia Brown, Idol Makers, Mega Hits, some Dangerous are all pretty much 1 in the same as far as musical content - yes identical - most tracks, not all.
Interesting you've never gotten complaints on DK, I sure have over the years - especially the MANY (some to the point that if you don't change the key up to compensate, it's not singable) tracks i've found in the wrong key. And yes I could key change them, but then you get the funny sounding warbles or chipmunk background vocals making the music sound like crap - if they didn't do that and put the flute melody, i'd agree 100% that they are some of the best tracks ever made. But this stems back to the Pioneer vs DK debate. Those raised on Pioneer liked Pioneer sound and quality much better than DK, and vice versa.
I never said a word about PHM, however they are much better than most of the AH, SGB, IM etc discs.
And everything I state is my opinion. I shouldn't need to point that out everytime I put up a post.

1) Oh hell, even I like Pioneer better than DK. Unfortunately, when I switched from Laser disc, I no longer had as many of their tracks- and they ARE harder to come by. That being the case, DK is close. I do not know what you have heard in regard to "Chipmunk warbling", as I have never encountered it. Would you be kind enough to name a track or two so that I might listen for it in a raised key? If I hear it I give my word that I will post the fact.

2) You're right, it was ME speaking of PHM. The only thing that would make them more generic would be if they were Midi. As for the other brands, we have always disagreed on what you claim they have in common, except that IM is definitely the absolute bottom of the barrel, to be found after scraping most of Backstage's production ( with some exceptions) out of the way. No need to revisit the subject here.

3) My apologies for any misunderstanding. Your opinion was stated as an absolute, so that is how I read it.

As for the OP:

Additional alternative brands include ( yes, older tracks with older brands):

Legends

Zoom

Laughing Gnome

( Yes, all UK brands are still available to KJs buying for themselves. They are just no longer available to distributors and mfrs. who want to produce overseas.)

Pocket Songs

Party Tyme ( Sybersound) ( Very good quality newer songs- WAY BETTER than All Star)

Karaoke Party ( Medacy)

Memorex

Forever Hits

.....and many, many others.

I would agree with All Star about a year & half ago, their newer stuff is actually done quite well. Their older stuff is nothing but midi crap.
