I am a TT Karaoke host at 2 bars in PA. I do very well, in fact number one in the country for karaoke song sales through the TT juke according to Touchtunes themselves. Both bars I work average $1200 in drink sales each during my 3 hours. So in retort drink sales do go up. The mics do have reverb its just the host has to know how utilize the remote control. As far as someone putting in a bunch of money and hearing that one person all nite doesn't happen being that the host can edit the lineup. I'm not going to tell all as to how I run successful shows, but if anyone here decides to try to host it good luck.

What advantage is there for the bar owner if they must pay for a Touchtunes Karaoke Jukebox and monthly service and ALSO hire a host to run it properly?

Do people still have to pay-per-song?

I agree James. Far more cheaply & far more reliable with a computer. My first was the cavs jb199. No keyboard, only way to access songs – enter 4 or 5 numbers. If somebody requests by song title, I have to look it up in my book. Also the lyrics synch delays. The wipes highlight ahead of time. I'm sure the newer models are better now but the bad experience prompted me to use laptop. Never again!

Their products targeting new kj’s. http://www.cavsusa.com/allinoneproducts.html

I went to a karaoke show years ago that used a CAVS machine and the timing of the lyric swipes was terrible. I never went back to that bar again. I'm sure that they have tried to improve it since then but I haven't seen many CAVS shows around these parts in years.

no monthly service, Touchtunes gets the money form the jukebox and the venue gets a cut of it as well, so they get PAID to have it. have one in my area as well.

pay a host $50.00 to do it (like the one in my area)what are you really out? that's if they use a host, most as i understand it do not use a host at all, just let it do it's thing. this way karaoke not only costs them nothing, but makes them a few bucks.

yup, thats how they all make money.

I see. I could see this working if you are the only game in town. But if you are a karaoke fan and they have free hosted karaoke at the bar next door, who's going to put money into a jukebox?

where i have seen it here are sportsbars.
in these places you get mostly 20 somethings there for the express intent of watching sports, chest thumping, and drinking enough to wake up in a strange house. good sound and a host are not a concern of theirs.

The 20 somethings still appreciate and look for good sound as well as songs they want to sing. Good sound & selection will always be a bigger pull than a non-hosted jukebox type club.
DJ's thought the same thing when bars started investing heavily into jukeboxes - didn't kill their jobs.

sorry, didn't mean to insinuate it was all 20 somethings.........the sports bar 20 somethings are a different breed. most of the time you could put seagrams 7 in a glass and call it gentleman jack and they wouldn't know or care the difference.

I play in a Sports Bar 7 nights - however from 9pm-1am it ceases to be a sports bar & becomes primarily a karaoke bar (well darts too). I think that is the big difference in how people perceive it.

good point. out here a sports bar is a sports bar. when i did them, if i even thought about taking a TV before XX vs. XX game was over i would have been tared and feathered.
they don't cease to be a sports bar ever. i now understand the confusion i caused with you.

We do leave games on that are actually being watched until they are over, they do get turned down - unless it's a playoff or championship game, then the karaoke waits until that's over - but the games are generally done by that point in the evening.
