Anyone booked for an End of The World Party? I was thinking of cheap raffle items--tin foil to make hats, cans of Spaghettios, boxes of matches....And what about songs--End of the World by Skeeter Davis, Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire,The End of the World as We know it by R.E.M., Make the World Go Away, etc.? Should one ask to be paid in advance?

I wonder if the Mayan end of the world theorists are buying Christmas presents

People are stupid.

Oh, and p.s., give away SPAM, not Spaghetti-Os!

It's all a business gimmick. Look at all the books, documentaries, them doomsday preppers spending outlandish amounts of cash on shelters & food supplies, etc. Nothing is going to happen, and if it does - it's part of the circle of life!

Include bottled water, batteries, toothpaste, & the most important item – toilet paper. Dry leaves disintegrate & can just about ruin your day.

The End by the Doors, Earth Died Screaming by Tom Waits, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse by Metallica.

Toilet Paper is a must . A friend sent me a list of songs from one of the last times the world was supposed to end but a lot of them were a bit obscure to find on karaoke. Just remembered Garth Brook's "If Tomorrow Never Comes."

never thought of that, good song. But of course, (optimistic) we’re all gonna be here & the world will remain beyond 2012. :)

Actually, the doom-sayers have been very quiet as it approaches. Some originators of the BS, have actually said they made a mistake.... ......We have no choice, but to throw a party......my grand daughter turns 3 on that day.... :)

Talk about timing! I booked it not 20 minutes before I saw this thread!

The cool part is that the party is for a theatre group- all performers. Talk about easy ups! Not only that, but they have their own "end of the world" theme going...

I DO appreciate the song list- thank you. :D

One hitch: It's booked for 7-11 on THE day, so.... :bawling:

The bar I host at has one planned so I appreciate the ideas. Recently I red archaeologists had uncovered a Mayan calendar room where they made the calculations, etc. and there were calendars there that went on past the supposed end of the world, but hey who wants to get in theway of a good party? "1999" takes on a whole new freshness within this context.

If you google "End of the world songs" or "doomsday songs" or any combo, then there are all sorts of lists, some from other past endings of the world. I didn't want to link away from here.

The Mayan's never really predicted that the world was going to end, although much of their artifacts are open to different translations.

The only thing that they definitely said was that on December 22, 2012, one of their gods said that he would return (Bolon Yokte). This is evidenced at Torteguero's Monument 6. Also, a Mexican historical society recently discovered another artifact with this same claim.

I won't say that I don't believe it, because there is obviously a chance that it could happen, no matter how small. I think it would be foolish not to believe that a chance exists because this alleged prophecy came from a civilization that was so advanced in certain areas (i.e. time keeping, astronomy) that we, the "modern world" are just now "catching up" to.

It's not much different from the Christian or any other religious belief that predicts a return of their god. If those who believe a god will eventually return are fools, then that probably makes for a lot of fools.

More songs to add: Stairway To Heaven by Led Zep, The Final Countdown by Europe, & last but not least, the theme song for the night, The End of the World by Skeeter Davis.

Guess we are late to the party. All the usual suspects are already selling party decor and favors such as Mayan Calendar Medallions that say "There's No To-Maya." Amazon has a whole list of End of the World songs to download....I'm going with the toilet paper. Don't really have an opinion as to if it ends or not. Just plan to go out singing either way.

We talk about party bash end the world; but we also need to talk about party food. Since the Maya civilization is in the southern Mexican region I highly recommend Mexican foods like chips, nachos & salsa. Burritos & tortillas catered by Taco Bell & make a run for the border later. Here’s my one sitting consumption for the night.

I'll be out of town that day anyway with family so whether the world ends or not, i'll be with my family - either getting drunk partying that the world is going to end, or waking up with a HUGE hangover lol!

Dec 21st is Friday I will be hosting that night. I’ll try to make it one heck of a party. Tell my singers to get the frack out of this gloom & doom feeling & just party - drink up, get drunk & be merry. “Let’s Armageddon outta here!” Hangover? There ain’t gonna be none, but if we woke up the day after & have this tremendous hangover we’ll just wish – oh sh*t let this world end already! LOL
