A public shout out to Kurt and Barb at Sound Choice for making the process to get my GEM series simple and painless. I received the discs about an hour ago and just now got around to unpacking them.

Looks like I will be getting a hold of the neighborhood kid again to copy discs for me! Was surprised to see just how many there are in the collection.

Anyway, thanks again to Kurt, Barb and Sound Choice!

Quick question for you:

Since you are now in possession of this collection ( and congratulations on the satisfaction that brings you- I mean that.), Do you think you would have any use for the Karaoke Cloud at all?

I'm asking your opinion because I started wondering about SC's holding out on the idea, and came up with two reasons:

The first, of course, is that it screws up their disc audit thingy. But that aside, they are still competitors. I don't know how many GEM sets are available for sale, but the bottom line is that I can't imagine a KJ wanting to pay for both the cloud AND the Gem set under any normal circumstances. That would leave the physical GEM stock gathering dust, while DT's digital product is created by the KJ on demand.

EDIT: While typing ( 2 fingers, and not well :roll: ) the above, another question of nothing more than curiosity came to mind.

I know how many TRACKS are available on the set. I was was wondering how many DISCS do they add up to. WOuld you be kind enough to supply a count when you get the chance? No icky here, just my own personal curiosity.

Thanks in advance......

I actually spoke to Gretchen about some bulk purchases today. She sent me some info about things but I have yet to sit down and fully digest it.

On the surface though, with the changes DT is making to 1) allow bulk library BUYS (not leases and not streaming) and 2) allow individual track BUYS (not leases and not streaming) and 3) Take care of paying for multiple copies of a track in a single purchase for use across multiple rigs - These changes have me taking a closer look at the DT offerings. Primarily the non-CB brands though since I have more CB content than I know what to do with right now.

So in short, yes, I still see value in using DT but I have some cost analysis to do before making a final decision.

I estimate it is close to 200 discs in what I purchased. Below is a picture of what was sent to me. Assuming the bottom spindle is a 100 disc spindle, there is ~100 on top as well. Can provide an exact break down tomorrow.

A spot check of the discs is 30 tracks per disc. The GEM is supposed to be 6000 tracks to 200 x 30 = 6000.

Gem sounds good, just not the ripping part. And yes, I see what you said about the kid. Give me MPGs or digital.

Oh....everything is pre-ripped. But the file naming is wonky and I still have to copy 200 discs off to my karaoke system. I am actually copying things off as I type and then will work on renaming and organizing over the next few days.

Here's a suggestion based on some work I have been doing. I am using an mp3 file tagger (freeware program) and it can rename files from the tags...so say the tags are there...you can rename the files in the order you want (artist - title - track) using the tag info. All automatic.

I would love to know what program you are using because I just hit a wall....

Here is a sample file from the GEM series -

10101-01_-_Clint_Black_-_A_Better_Man.cdg
10101-01_-_Clint_Black_-_A_Better_Man.mp3

I use File Renamer Pro which let's me easily remove the underscores and append an "SC" to the begging of the files to get this -

SC10101-01 - Clint Black - A Better Man.cdg
SC10101-01 - Clint Black - A Better Man.mp3

But I also keep all of my files zipped and I also list as last name, first name. So what I need to end up with is -

SC10101-01 - Black, Clint - A Better Man.zip

Normally MP3+G Toolz handles all of this just fine. The problem is, the GEM Series isn't listed in full on the KJPro Site which is what MP3+G Toolz uses to rename files. The "SC10101" entry doesn't above doesn't exist on KJPro and thus doesn't get renamed.

If someone else has some suggestions I would love to hear them. I really don't want to rename files manually.

Chris, use Latshaw KJ File Manager (KJFM). It will do anything you want it to do, including renaming "first last" to "last, first".

@mrmarog and rickgood

Thank You! I have used KJFM before, but never drilled into some of the deeper menus. I literally just stumbled on the Artist name adjustments. You made my day!

I used karaoke file renamer alongside music book deluxe. Worked great for me.

Chris;

When I promise no "ick" I mean it. I sincerely appreciate your clean, non-issue answers to my questions.

Thanks again....

+1 for Latshaws program. It's the Swiss Army Knife of music library's.

it allowed me with the exception of two files to correctly name using the last name first scenerio. Those two files I had to edit in Music Book Deluxe's database to get it to come out right. One was forever and ever amen. Gave the right song title but not the right artist.
