Depends on too many factors. Going rate for the area. Saturation/availability of other kj's. Do you need to bring any extras, buy any special music, dj, lights, etc. Location?
Typically I will charge 3-5x my regular club rate.

Have you done private parties before? If so, then you should charge the same rate you charge others... unless you are one of the Alumni, and offer them a break in your rate.

And what would you provide? Most people here, have a price based on how many services they bring.....DJ, KJ, VJ, Sub or Subs, Lighting, and the amount of lighting, Trivia, Dancing Girls in Bikinis....I'm sure I left something out..... :)

Well, since I only charge $75/hr for weddings, I will charge the same. This is just a hobby for me and not a job. Thanks for everyones input.

I'm in Ohio as well, and am trying to make a LIVING doing this. Do me a favor. Either raise your fee to a more competitive rate , or find another hobby! I understand stamp collecting can be fun....... :)

For me, I usually factor how much extra time I need to put into it. Most weddings have a 50%, 75% or 100% custom playlist. I spend the time to get and learn the names of Mothers, fathers, sons daughters, etc. I usually must go ahead of time to see the venue and must be there at a specific time to set up. This all adds up which means as a hobby, it's still a bargain at $500 or more. I used to rent extra lighting but have what I need now, unless they want something special. Most people start the conversation with how much do you charge? The smart thing to do is have a rate list they can pick from.

If this is a show up and play whatever type thing, then i wouldn't charge a wedding rate.

I don't think that's fair at all. If someone wants the services of a full time DJ, you will get the call and they will pay accordingly. Hopefully, you will provide much more for your shows than someone that does this as a favor for family and friends. To ask a person that doesn't show up with all the bells and whistles of a full time guy to charge the same just seems selfish to me.

Not everyone wants to pay a plumbing company along with their rates to unclog a sink when they know a guy and not everyone wants to pay for the full time DJ services and rates. If it means that much to you to get the low hanging fruit, then provide a lower base with a value added menu and charge accordingly.

I've done 3. Last one I did, I went all out. I put together a giant poster sized billboard 100 week by week poster for each year they were in high school. (4 posters) Then I made sure I had all those songs. I had a lot of happy campers.

Price $400. The music I added to my collection, I get to keep it so it was a good thing for me. Once I make my big move, I want to try to do something like this and get a good rep and raise my price significantly. Just not sure if the bb 100 will be up their alley as much, Canadians follow most everything that happens in the states but they like their stuff too.
