ohhh i'm so sick, runny nose, itchy eyes, headache.

so now do i seek revenge on my singers, or do i stay home an nurse the cold?

whats your opinion?

why when people are sick do their spouses have to drag them out of the house to sing.....
why?

When I host, I have a microphone reserved for me myself, and I don't let others use it.

 Johnny R – you dirty old man. That's not what I had in mind. Two schools of thought here; you’re thinking of bedroom scene, I’m thinking of a garage shop. LOL

Same here too, Mcky - I have my very own mic. Except they always want to borrow it. They say my mic sounds better than the ones their using even if I tell them they’re all beta58’s coming out of the same processor line. So I have no choice but to let them use it. :(

It's not just the mics. There are a couple of very nasty and unstoppable bugs circulating this year:

Noro-virus, aka "stomach flu"- though it's not really influenza. a "both-ender" that is brutal.

A mutated influenza virus. This year's vaccine can only weaken it's effects- it can't prevent it ( If you look at a "flu map" it shows 100% of the country, despite the majority of those most susceptible having had flu shots). If you had the shot, chances are you might just get away with body weakness and some "run-time", but even when you feel stronger it hangs in for a few more days.

Without the shot you get the whole kit 'n kaboodle: Fever, chills, nausea, runs, weakness, and everything else.

Unfortunately, there is a kicker in both cases.

In both instances, other upper respiratory problems seem to develop quite often. If you had the shot, it will feellike you got a common cold add-on to the flu with runny nose, coughing, etc. This makes the sufferer think they may just be suffering from a bad cold- they aren't.

In cases where no shot was received, the development of Bronchitis, Pneumonia, and or Pleurisy seem to be the gifts of choice.

We have had a few deaths of otherwise healthy people here in my area from it, including children. Nothing funny about it.

At some point I expect the CDC will make some sort of announcement about this year's version- like what it is and why it overcomes the vaccine.

Can't wait for spring and summer.

Good informative post above, JoeC. Thanks. It’s good to stay informed & protect ourselves as the flu continues to spread. If only those people with flu-like symptoms just stay home --- but that’s just wishful thinking. They’re out there coughing, sneezing, hugging, shaking hands, etc.

Quote Joe: “Without the shot you get the whole kit 'n kaboodle: Fever, chills, nausea, runs, weakness, and everything else”.

I had the flu shot & still got sick, only lasted 2 days, though, just mild illness.
Bottom line, folks – Get Vaccinated!!! Lesson learned. It will decrease your chances of getting it or giving it to someone. Let your doctor decide if you should not have it. :)

Tell the people if they are sick - DON'T SING! Not only will it save their voice, it will save others from being exposed.

Where do you hear these things?

First, all influenza is "mutated virus". That how & why it changes every year. It is constantly changing. The CDC does their best to model what strains will affect various parts of the world and advises the vaccine manu's accordingly. This is why you must get a new vaccine every year, unlike childhood bacterial vaccines that do not mutate such as Measles or Mumps.

Second, the flu vaccine (and most all vaccines) works by introducing the inactive virus to your system so that your immune system will develop anti-bodies (immunity). You are either immune to a particular strain or you are not. Partial immunity is like being partially pregnant. If you come down with a weak version of the flu, it isn't because the vaccine "weakened it's effects". It's because you caught something completely different and weren't protected. There are thousands of different kinds of influenza and they are changing all the time. The annual vaccine is an educated hedge against the strains predicted to be most prevalent on our area.

Lets try to be accurate as we can be......Measles & Mumps are caused by a viruses...... :)
People don't die from the flu, they die from complications of the flu. The flu weakens you, and bacteria, that is usually kept in check, can gain a strong foothold. If you have noticed, there is a big push by the AMA for doctors to limit the amount of antibiotics they prescribe.....in my opinion, this is partly responsable for so many people getting pretty sick. They used to give you an antibiotic, even though they suspected, that you had a virus.......this was to prevent a secondary bacterial infection. Not anymore, they wait two or three weeks, or until you're almost dead..... :)

My mistake. I should have said they are virus's that do not mutate as wildly as influenza.

Yup. When I hear someone at work talking about demanding anti-biotics from their Doctor it drives me crazy. They are contributing to the problem. That, and all the fear mongering anti-bacterial soaps, etc. That which doesnt kill you makes you stronger!

Hope this helps. We exclusively use these and provide them to all our customers. They cost
about 50cents each and were designed for this specific reason.
