In late 1996 to early 1997 I developed two polyps on my vocal chords. Doctors told me it was from improper singing technique, and not enough vocal rest. By that time I had been singing 6-7 years, and was going out to sing nearly every night, PLUS I had my own system complete with 500+ cd's and a complete set of laser discs. The polyps slowed me up a little, but the worse they got the more I sounded like James Brown (pretty neat really). That was neat UNTIL I couldn't get a word out for about the first 2-3 hours of the morning. So to the laser I went, and all went so well that when I went to Africa for a month, in Oct 1997, I won a really big contest in Casa Blanca, Morroco. I sang Unchained Melody as my winning song. So I went from James Brown to The Righteous Brothers in just a few weeks. During this singing spree from 1990 to 1997 I would guess that I sang close to 1000 different songs at different venues. What I did learn from this is to stay within your comfortable range and use the key changer to prevent near disasters, such as mine, so as to increase your singing span. Remember Julie Andrews... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... -more.htmlThe moral is "it is not how many songs you sing, but how many you sing well......WITHOUT damage" Congratulations mrscott

I guess compared to the people who sing the same 5 or 10 songs for years on end, 500 songs is a lot but to go fishing for compliments so blatantly is probably why most peoplr ignored it until you started letting everyone know that your feelings were hurt.
I thought it was going to be a thread about the Sound Choice MILESTONE disc. When it turned out to be what it was; I couldn't hit the BACK button fast enough. I'm just not that interested in how many songs a person has tried to sing. Sing one and put it on the singers showcase and you'll get plenty of people to tell you that you sing great if you need a little qiuck me up in the morning. Well here's a milestone for ya although I'm not going to go back and actually count Bruce. This is the 1234th negative post you've left on here since I've been a member. I bet you would kick Tiny Tim if given the opportunity. Life is way too short to be a sour puss raining on people's day! You are the guy I walk past every day and smile only to get a "no eye contact" or a "ignore". Really, learn to smile, you might actually like it!!!! I'm givin' myself a like for this too! What a wonderful day!!!!

mrscott wrote: Now, THIS is what I am talking about!! Nicely done Suzanne!!! Way to share your accomplishments I think singing in that many places is awesome and very note worthy. Do you have ambition to sing in all 50 states someday? I think that would be so cool. As far as me singing and recording? nope,, never have recorded anything. And probably never will.. but anyway,, keep singing and having fun!!! Isn't that what karaoke is all about? Yes, I would love to sing in all 50. We used to travel a lot, so that's how it started out, just happenstance. Plus we do move quite often. I asked my husband to figure it out for me again (his memory is better) and he thinks it's 32 states, plus DC, Guam, Canada (3 provinces - Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba), Switzerland, England, Mexico and Northern Ireland. I love singing at home with the karaoke machine and recording. It helps me to learn new stuff and whether the song will sound good on live karaoke or not. I don't get to go to live karaoke that often because we don't have many good places around here. Why don't you want to post here on Singer's Showcase? We have all different levels of singers. It's just for fun! Recording is easy. You don't even need a karaoke machine, just a microphone and your computer. Although some do record their live performances when they go out, too.

Congratulations mrscott So sorry to hear that. That is a nightmare to me. You're lucky you live in a time where they can fix those things. I remember in high school, we had some esteemed guest conductor for one day during a festival, and he had very bad vocal polyps from when he was younger, so he cautioned us against getting them. Sure scared me! Singing with proper technique doesn't mean one should only sing within a comfortable range, though. Your voice is more malleable than that. One shouldn't be out every night screaming or anything, but if you're otherwise taking care of your voice and singing with good breath control, it's good to try to extend your range both high and low. When I was young, I used to be able to sing super high songs (opera-like). Now it's harder for me, even though I'm a much better singer than I was then, because I'm not used to doing it any more, and because I'm older (I'm guessing). Also, your voice can change over time from various things, affecting your range. If I had kept up on my voice lessons and singing those type of songs, and not just doing pop and rock sometimes for fun, I probably would still be able to sing up high like that without problems. So now I'm trying to find time to sing a little bit every day and really work on singing higher, to see if I can get those notes back!

I'd put a ton of money down that the majority of those that looked but didn't comment would disagree with you rather that agree with you. The only whining little biatch here is you. Get a life and take a course on people skills!

I've sung many thousands of songs and never felt the need to START a thread to make the announcement. That's the point I was trying to make. How many songs someone has sung is not a reason to start your own "tell me how grreat I am" thread.

The guy is having a weird time in his life and looking for postives. Probably more healthy than whiney.
I have had too many karaoke singers talk about singing to gain confidence after a significant other tried to kill them (2, which is shocking), or some other traumatic event in their life. It's the little things.....

How many songs someone has sung is not a reason to start your own "tell me how grreat I am" thread. Bruce,, YOU are missing the point "I" was making. I NEVER said how great I was, in fact, it was quite the opposite. The reason for this thread was for everyone to share their own milestones, I just posted mine was all, NOTHING more. But, YOU took it as a brag from me, which it is most certainly not. When it's someones birthday do you tell them that isn't important? and that there are thousands of other people with the same birthday and why should they be celebrating their own? That is very selfish of you. Each person has their own reasons to celebrate whatever milestone they have reached. Sharing them on here is just simply a way to reach each others lives and maybe make a friend or two out of it. If YOU don't want any friends, you are doing a mighty fine job of creating that situation. This is a business about "people", their common bond and the willingness to touch lives. Bruce? (I really don't know your real name) I just bet you have some good things to share as well, and I for one would like to hear about them. As I do from everyone. Spread the love man!!!

Bruce, it'll be okay...really. Why not come over to singer's showcase for some warm fuzzy comments? If you ask nicely, maybe Jawnny will even share tone deafness with you!

I used to put songs on the Singers Showcase on a regular basis. Now, I only do it occasionally. I got tired of reading all of the lies that people tell each other in order for them to get positive comments on their equally horrible singing efforts.

As one bad singer to another, Mr. Scott--congratulations on hitting your milestone. Maybe some day we can serenade each other completely out of tune and make ears bleed!
