BruceFan4Life wrote: I used to put songs on the Singers Showcase on a regular basis. Now, I only do it occasionally. I got tired of reading all of the lies that people tell each other in order for them to get positive comments on their equally horrible singing efforts. Truthfully, I do focus on the positive when critiquing others, BUT- I always tell the truth when it comes to what I think as far as a singer's strengths and what they could improve on. It isn't tough to find positive things to say, because there are some genuinely talented singers with creativity going on in the showcase. People tend to sub what they know they did well on, the result being that horrible is not what I'd call what I hear there. I've heard uniquely touching duets, creative acoustic reinterpretations, dead on sound alikes, seriously powerful voiced rockers, gorgeous remakes of classic tunes done 60s girlband style, haunting vocals adding an edge to classic pop/rock songs, and singers turning one genre into another as they make a song theirs...and much more. And I genuinely enjoy it. I haven't subbed a song in a while, but still comment on others I enjoy hearing.Just because. What a concept, huh? Also, I sub my own, er, horrible singing efforts , for critique (got a helpful suggestion about a pitch issue I missed recently) and just to see what others think of various songs done my way before I perform or share them at gigs. I know I'm not perfect, but also know I don't suck, so I'm cool with honest praise or criticism, enjoy the give and take aspect of the forum and sub section, and trust that others generally do the same. Maybe I am projecting my view on others just as you are, but at least my view isn't making me miserable, as yours seems to be making you, based on the way you spew negativity. Or, to put it another way, like I said before...Dude...really...lighten up!

Yes indeed, there are some excellent singers on the Singer's Showcase who deserve all of the accolades that get thrown their way. The problem is when everyone gets the same type of complments, it lessens the value of the compliments. It's like giving a first place trophy to everyone who played in the league. It's kind of like socialism. Everyone gets the same thing so the truly elite do not get the recognition that they deserve. If you give a TEN singer a score of TEN and you give a TWO singer a score of TEN; the score of TEN means absolutely nothing because you are telling the TEN singer that he is no better than the TWO singer. To me, the TEN singer is getting insulted by the comparison. All of the TEN singer's practice and natural talent gets dismissed in order to not hurt some TWO singer's ego.

Okay, Brucefan, you are obviously irritated by the fact that singers you consider terrible get praise as well as those you consider good, as you have made it clear. For it to bother someone this much, they obviously must not only take it personally, but also feel they did not get the level of praise they feel they deserved. So, now that we have established that you think most of us are insincere and full of sh!t, the question that remains is, is it because you think you suck and didn't deserve to be praised as much as good singers, or is it because you think you're so great that most of us are so much less talented compared to you that it's offensive for so many to be given compliments similar to those you receive?Which is it?

OK, not to interrupt the Bruce bashing,, but this thread isn't about singing or critiquing,, it's really about sharing the little goals or milestones each of us has reached. I don't want it to become about something so harmful as to put someone down,, yes even Bruce.
I would love to hear about things like, how someone has inspired us, or how many shows we have under our belts, or maybe how many years we have been singing.... that sort of thing. NOBODY should put themselves about another person, or put ourselves down. This is about lifting the spirit and showing some kindness to each other. The forum is hateful enough without us adding to the friction..
Thank you for listening.

I would think that it would be obvious...but you just want me to type it LOUD, right? If I mention anyone's name here, I will receive a warning so I won't. If you've spent any time at all listening to people on the Singer's Showcase, you already know what I'm talking about.

Brucefan, I was not asking what you thought of anyone in particular. I just wondered if you were annoyed by the praise because you thought you didn't deserve it or because you thought the rest of us didn't compared to you.The thing is, it shouldn't matter to you what kind of feedback others get. Why not take the comments for what they are, which is people taking the time to listen and appreciate and maybe give some constructive criticism? It isn't a competition. Mrscott, my latest milestone has been learning to record my own demos and run my own sound. Until this year, I didn't need to do this for myself, and while I've rarely met a note I couldn't hit (though a few have hit back! ) , the tech side has been a challenge for me.I have finally reached a point where I can set up and set levels/do a very basic mix of my vocals and tracks . YAY !

MR. Scott: Super congratulations on your 500th song! I'll never come close, but admire your love of karaoke- it's all about the fun!
Bruce: Here I was being egotistical thinking that you were my personal forum troll, when in reality you're just a grumpy old fart- my bad....
No Shame Karaoke: How the hell do I grovel for, steal, or kill for one of your T-shirts?!?!??

WHEN I SEE IT....like when someone says they do 20 or more shows a month when they aren't doing any, or when people with heavy duty hearing loss try to sway others when it comes to what karaoke brands are better than others, or say things like "idol Makers discs are way better than Sweet Georgia Brown karaoke when they are identical. You try to pass yourself off as some kind of karaoke know it all but you just like to see yourself type for the sake of typing.

(Sorry for the diversion)
Cue, Joe:
It's kind of a mock fraternal thing, but as it's kind of falling apart in it's previous incarnation... hmm. I was thinking of rebranding it anyway.

Oh, milestone for me:
I've started posting performances from bars on YouTube to amuse friends far away and bring others into my karaoke circle despite distance.

I'm the one that said Idol Makers are way worse than SGB, not better-and they are- try to keep up. The rest of your post is pretty much static......Divas are kinda like that, hence my sig line....
